Does anyone have the official patch file for Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic that updates the game from version 1.00.42b to version 1.00.42c?

If so, could you please e-mail it to me (arranged via our Just Adventure private message system)?  The file is evidently only around 270 kb in size.

NOTE:  I have the three-CD retail game and am trying to play it on a Windows 7 x64 system.  The full 1.3 GB install seems to have worked and the initial copyright screen displays when either the .exe or desktop shortcut is activated. However, the program will not actually start. Instead, it generates a big error message that refers to DirectX drivers (mine are fully updated with several grandfathered versions installed for numerous older games).

The tech support page for the game at http://www.starshiptitanic.com/game/patches.html has a link to the original, final PC patch (1.00.42b), but it appears the game is no longer supported by its publisher, Simon & Schuster (S&S). The link just takes you to the main S&S homepage and the website doesn't seem to have any game support pages or files.

There are also some other things that may need updating like codecs, but I can find them on the web. So it is just the official patch file that is needed.

Much thanks in advance.

Cheers, Terry

Much thanks, Inland.

The elusive patch has been downloaded and installed.

Now to track down those older codecs, etc...

Just a quick follow-up note to say that Starship Titanic (three-CD retail) does indeed run fine on Windows 7 x64 once the game has been patched to version 1.00.42c and after following the additional instructions on the web page linked below.

that link no longer works..can anyone give the actual working link?  Or PM me a copy, i will host it on my Patch Archive if so.

So far I have found one of the three patches i think:

StbToc  1.00 42.c Patch

http://www.gamefront.com/files/service/thankyou?id=904883

Here are the movie codexes needed:

Cinepak codec ICCVID.DLL - the original version 1.10.0.11 (dated 06/11/1995)

"Smartheap Library DLL" SH33W32.DLL

Which link didn't work for you Cris?

I downloaded the 1.00.42c patch file from the link that Inland provided above and was able to download both codec / .DLL files via the links at:

http://forums.techguy.org/games/877759-running-starship-titanic-windows-7-a-2.html

By following the instructions on the above-linked TechGuy page, I got the game to work great on my new Windows 7 x64 PC.

Cheers, Terry

the simon shuster link was very frustrating for me, i tried and tried to get the simon shuster site to reveal the Extras but it refused to allow any search for it or allow me to use that link...so screw them, i tried about 50 times every possible search..they seem to be blockig that topic for some reason.

just led to their main page, NOT the extras patches page. I use Firefox and an older version there may be some new fangled link system that I dont have

the dlls wanted to download from an FTP site and my browser could not link to it.

I think i have the number C patch now so i think i will be ok, i am getting the game as i dont have it.  And i use Windows XP and always will so hopefuly that will be ok.  I also have a Windows 98SE set up if needed.

Sorry Cris, thought I made it clear from the outset that Simon & Schuster appears to be a total deadend for attaining the patch / patches.

The final patch aside, you might also need to place those two newer .DLL files in The Digital Village / Starship Titanic folder.

However, I would try running the .exe before overwriting the original .DLL files as the older versions may in fact work with Windows XP.

And since you still have Windows XP, you probably will not need to run the game in XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode or as an adminstrator.

Cheers, Terry
