Just found this new text-based game at CostCo: TurboTax 2011 (maybe it's part of a series like TurboTax 2010, 2009 etc.- will have to check). Anyway, it's almost completely text-based and you get asked all sorts of questions. Depending on how you answer, you are taken to various lists and have all sorts of options. There's a lot of logical thinking involved because you get to make all sorts of Deductions. There's also a family-option because the game asks you all about your Dependents. Or you can just play with your wife if you wish to send in your results Jointly. The developers have thought of everything!
Apparently, this game is so popular that no less than the government of the USA will grade it for you and if you do well, it will even send you money. Don't understand why no one is talking about it. (Amazing! Just found out that the California government is interested in my results also and may send me money.)
However, would like at least some graphics.
Hope you get something out of it!

It's been reviewed by Karla recently:

The review section is working, but the new owners haven't transferred the old reviews yet

unwritten tales is good, well design, beautiful to look at, quite funny. decent puzzles. but i dont really feel like playing it oddly enough. i dont seem to care about the characters or the story just yet. but im only a little way through. so hopefully that will change.
MI 2 was installed because of my stalling on unwritten tales. theres noway i wont love this game

Are we talking about the code puzzle at the very start? I know what to do but need a bit more info to move on and not sure where to find it - pretty fiendish...
EDIT: got it... relax, think, look.... This is very good so far - liking it a lot!

I've discovered all kinds of neat nooks and crannies with tons of clues and am just now starting to put some things together. I've only had a few "ah-ha" moments but am hoping there will be more soon before I become a complete basket case. This is definitely my favorite kind of game!

I played this last year and loved it. There are so many hidden spots to discover, I envy you playing it for the first time.

Hey colpet- while I know that you are not the biggest fan of 'fright-based' AGs these days, I'm surprised that the desperation shared by all 1st person point & clicker players hasn't made you try Corrosion yet. Plus, let me remind you of:

I second that. Finished it last night after a nice string of after-work sessions. A nice throwback.

At 11:30 last night I finally figured out what to do with the tramway tracks and am now in one of the new areas. I got a chance to look at things and try them out but haven't figured out how the pieces go together yet.

It's not that I don't like them, it's just that the horror/suspense theme is about all that is available in the 1st person games. It'd be nice to get some bright, fantasy-like environments to explore.
I am going to get Corrosion Cold Winter. Indeed, I'm looking forward to it given the comments I've read. I was just waiting for a hard copy instaed of a download, since I'm pretty sure I'm going to like the game.

Bright, fantasy-like environments are the antithesis of Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting. You've never seen so much grey in your life.

Status : Offline | That is true. As much as I enjoyed Corrosion it's as cool and grey as they get. But it's not a bad little story either - kept me going - and the ending has twists that make a sequel an appealing prospect [point duly noted by the JA reviewer]. It gets a bit grizzly in spots but it's not hardcore horror, even milder than Scratches I'd say.

I finally finished Rhem 4 last night. It was a very challenging game puzzlewise, but I loved it! I'm going to tuck my 25 pages of notes away for reference when I play it again someday.

I think because of that, the anticipation of getting to a new area just wasn't there, unlike the Rhem games where I generally can't wait to see what's behind the next door.

It's precisely the sterile look of the graphics that's put me off from getting this game so far.

Oh well, the atmosphere in this game is perfect

Spoiler AlertApparently the knife blade alone can cut plants, but the knife with a handle can't? That makes no sense to me, I was stuck for a long time until I accidentally discovered that. Frustrating, and it made me lose some faith in what had been a well designed game up to that point.
