I did not know the Open versoin of FS1 was mssing sounds? that did not sound like them for usualy that team is very through, indeed fanaticial about adding tihngs rather than leaving them out. I will post a question over on the forum and ask about that. Glad you have both, that should be fun. After all my research into both FS1 and 2, i have never had the time to play either so i hope you enjoy it. there are a ton of add on campaigns too, some very detailed. A very devoted community over there.

Thus far I have to say that FS has a very nice feel to it. It just flows very well. And unlike Wing commander your team mates are not as suicidally intent on ramming you (That was one of the annoying bits in Wing Commander 1 & 2, your wingmen did not really seem to take your safety into consideration, which resulted in a lot of collisions and friendly fire, at least if you play like me, and try to fly close to the enemy. The enemy was just as bad and liked to ram you as well)

How am I supposed to find time to play these games? My folder for "unfinished" games on steam is flooded. When is I supposed to have time to deal with this:

..but Adevnt Rising really seems a fun and visually attractive game. I was mainly talking about a lot of the gameplay where you also use "powers' and so on. I'm surprised that the game never attracted more of a following. I haven't finished the game, but from what I've seen so far, the game is satisfyingly pleasing for such a relatively obscure older title. Maybe I'll still get disappointed farther on, but so far it's supplied an enjoyble fair amount of gaming.
Maybe hardcore people find the game too easy, I don't know. As you know, I'm not a big shooter fan, so I don't have much to compare it to.

I just couldn't resist Limbo for 2,5€ today, which is what i'm playing right now

I've tried to resist "bargains". If you buy it, your list becomes longer. But if you don't buy it, it gnaws away at the back of your brain like a dripping tap.

I bought it during its last sale, and it, at least, does no longer belong lumped together with the other games that I posted above (though it should be noted that some of those games really don't have an end, like Delver deeper, and Eternity's child will probably never be finished, even though it is supposed to be short, as it is a horrible game.
On the other hand, Steam is not the only place where I have games that I have not yet finished. My shelf next to my computer also has more unfinished games than it should
By the way, there is apparently a fan patch for advent rising: http://www.miketyndall.com/setz/Advent%20Revising/

I do recall there was some discussion a while back concerning the Vampire Redemption game that I thought I would probably buy if it went on sale. I did.

wow, a patch? did not know about that Fnord, i was hoping there might be a chance we could get a hold of some of the meshes and textures and do some mods for it, that is cool thanks.
UPDATE: that patch Advent Revising looks fantastic, the mod maker upgraded movies, added in missing movies and did a lot more a wonderful work indeed, i am going to try to find out more details it sounds very exciting. thanks so much for that info!
i am hopeful that having Advent Rising on Steam and with GOG will get enough interest in it for them to make the other two parts of teh Triliogy that were planned and I assume that Scott wrote the complete script for....i would love to see the series finished, for I feel that this is an unkown masterpiece that slipped thru the cracks...partly because the style of the game may not have appealed to some of the younger (back then) gamers..hopefully more mature and sophisticated gamers will appreciate what I feel are realy beautiful stylistic choices. and a fine game and story.
CB that is one BIG alligator..i hope it finds something to eat besides your character.

It started to crash on me yesterday, with some error message about general protection. Upon restarting, it would alwasy start again at the last checkpoint, but now it suddenly seems to have lost the last savepoint; or otherwise it crashes at startup already.
I'm going to try the patch Fnord mentioned and see if that helps.
Oh, and Vampire Redemption is one of my unfinished ones. Now CB is tempting me again. My, but that is a huge alligator/crocodile..
So how do you like the game, CB?

I hope so. I am not sure where your crash started Trav but mine was after the second group of aliens appeared and he had just found his fiancee at the Science center and he was confronting a big alien...not sure if you hit the same place...and i too go the General Protection fault. I wonder if there was a bad batch of DVDs...i know that happened with one cut of URU.

I am playing Mafia II when it lets me, had a lot of freezes and crashes....they put too much detail or too many special effects in , but it is amazing the detail and the quality of the ambience, It shoudl be used to teach American History, sure does give the feel of being there...

The alligator/crocodile actually isn't my photo but I thought it really looked cool. OK I got caught. Actually I just wanted to be a more solidified member of the gang that has numerous un-played GOG games on their virtual bookshelf, not of course that I would want to be the current record holder with 35 games.
I tried downloading VM (1.5 hrs) on one computer but I was informed the executional portion of the file was corrupted and that the original file needed to be re-dl. Perhaps it doesn't like Win 7? Dl in progress on the other computer now, I'll know in an hour. Anyhow I figure I'll play through six more levels of my current game and take a break with something(s) else.
Hmm. I see Cris is enjoying that nice Lincoln convertible. Hope he doesn't trash it as badly as I.
Well, guess it was corrupted or whatever. :/ All's fine that ends well.

I thought the missions in the expansion overall were better than the ones in the core game, due to their added challenge. My favourite was a large 3-way battle near the end of the game, with enemies everywhere.
The expansion was a lot shorter than the core game. It felt like it was about 1/2-1/3 of the length, and it had no ending sequence either

Hah! 53 games on my GoG shelf, and I have only played a half dozen of them... but do we count games that we have played and finished in the past, just not replayed after we bought the GoG version for preservation/nostalgia purposes? If not, then I have a more manageble 20 or so totally unplayed GoG games.
On topic, resumed my Revenge of the Titans playthrough, determined to finish the campaign this time. It gets really tough after mission 35 or so...

Status : Offline | Do try that patch you posted about Fnord, I have been communicating with the author and he seems very nice, it really does some nice things for Advent, he found a bunch of movies that they cut out of the PC version that they had in the XBox one, and fixed other errors. He said if that Critical Fault error appears that Trav and I both had from the disk set, that the GOG version may play correctly. It will be my fall back for that game once i get back to it.
CB, so far yes sadly i did smack a few things, my driving skills are still improving, ...i hit something, i think it was a telephone pole, and smacked in the front grill, but you get a Make Repairs option when you start in your garage and i fixed it back up. I am now at the Docks teaching Deportment to the Dock Workers...they were resisting paying the Barber Fee

as a student of social history and deep immersion, the graphics and the settings and the ability to just walk or drive anywhere you want and the tons of wonderful easter eggs of local colour they put in make this a dream game for me. It is so detailed and so accurate for the era i just love it. Hopefuly my driving skills will improve.
Trav I will be back in Bloodlines myself, i stopped at Hollywood, and when i had to reload my system, i deleted the save games by mistake, sadly just before i was going to save themn to my archive...so i have to start over, Be sure to dig up that thread and get the full fan patch that I listed, it adds back over 300 items from the game files that they did not use or deleted and fixes tons of bugs including the infamous rescue the scientist mission.

Just kidding. TBH I purchased one or two because I felt a connection with the depiction of the over emphasized mighty heroin posed on the cover only to be disappointed.
With the current sale VMR is a bargain. Sadly it seems Bloodlines is not included in the GoG catalog and a quick search indicates that if one doesn't already own their copy the transaction fee of said game is steep.

*edit*
I've been spending some time getting the easy holiday related steam achievements, in hope that I'll get something nice in the gift boxes that you get for each of the daily achievements that you get (you can grab many now, but they won't give you a gift box just yet) while waiting for the Advent Rising fanpatch (slow download). I got 66% off on a valve game in one of my gift boxes, which I guess can come in handy at some point in time.
Here is a list of the known achievements: http://steamtreasurehunt.wikia.com/wiki/Winter_Objectives#article-comments
By the way, if anyone is interested, several of those games can be found in the current humble bundle, namely Jamestown (which is great), Super Meat boy, Bit.Trip.Runner & Cave story.
