It is from 2007, but plays like a game from the mid 90's. I got it during the steam autumn sale, and have just begun to play around with it, but it looks like a game that has a lot of potential.

Sneaky way to raise your post count, Fnord!

EDIT:  ..and yes, Eschalon does look interesting.

*Trav goes off to investigate*

EDIT 2:  Is the story any good?  I might as well continue my Arcanum playthrough first, with similar graphics.

Eschalon: Book 1 finished. Not the lengthiest game in the world (just shy of 9h for me), but it was quite good. The underlying rule system was good, and the game had plenty of sidequests, all with their own story that worked well within the game world. I feel that the game would probably have been better if it was party based, and if it was a tad bit harder, but as the first game by an indie developer with a small budget, I think they did a very good job. Now I'm looking forward to having the chance to play Book 2, but that won't be the next game in line (as I feel that I need to finish some of the games that I already own before I buy any more games).

I played Silent Hill: Homecoming for a few minutes, but i'm not in the right mood to play it properly.

Too tired and too easily scared

It's the first time i've played a game of that series, atmosphere seems perfect, controls could be better

I just yesterday finished playing a fun little Flash-based RPG called "Epic Fantasy Battle 3" - yes, not a terribly promising title, I'll admit, but I found it to be enjoyable, at least.

It's considered one of the worst in series.

You should play SH1 - it's the scariest, and SH2 - it's the best. Others aren't that important, imo

I've recently begun to play Darwinia, which came with the last humble bundle. It feels like Syndicate, with a hint of Sacrifice, which I have do admit was rather unexpected. I thought it would be more along the line of a traditional RTS actually.

And the 4th one was never even intended to be a part of the series in the first place.

I have only played the first two Silent Hills, but I never found them to be very scary. Too much combat, and the main character feels too powerful, which detracts quite a bit from the horror atmosphere. Shattered Memories (the Wii version) looks promising though, as you have no way of defending yourself from the enemies, which should make them feel far more terrifying.

I'm inclined to add Silent Hill 3 to that recommendation.  I'll confess that I've not yet gotten to play the first two games (although I'd very much like to do so at some stage), but I have played the third, and thought it rather good, as I recall.  As an added attraction, I believe that it's a continuation of the story from the first game.

As usual, I can't stick to one game at a time, so I'll be playing Frayed Knights as well.

OK back to playing Dragon Age Origin and I have a question- I am currently in Redcliffe helping the village repel the living dead attack. The problem is I have seemingly defeated all the corpses and yet everyone is still on high alert telling me there are more coming etc. But nothing's happening!

The funny mist is still there but there is no way to enter the castle or do anything. It seems I'm trapped in an empty battlefield... Help!

Maum, if you are near the windmill, then I think that you're supposed to head down to the town (there may be someone that you're supposed to follow there; my memory is uncertain on this, I fear).  If you're already in the town, then perhaps run a sweep for any "stray" undead.

Thanks for that. I have looked everywhere and from what I can see there don't seem to be any left. My map is also red dot free. I've done a bit of research online and it looks likely that it's a bug. According to some post on a YouTube walkthrough I might have to start again and say the right thing to the right character prior to battle. It was already the second time I was going through Redcliffe already and having to do it a third time is a pain!!! I will do 1 last sweep just in case.

Currently playing:  Dragon Age Origins,  Dishonored, The Witcher, Fallout 3, Deponia

I'm playing this great little Finnish platformer called Trine. The graphics are amazing, I don't think I've seen a more beautiful game. Reminds me of the Lost Vikings.

Hmm, this seems to be a rather common bug, but often it is because there is still an undead stuck somewhere (behind or "in" something, and might not necessarily show on your map).  I'd suggest you look around the lakefront most carefully.  I seem to remember some of the houses were on wooden poles, or there were bridge-like structures involved underneath which you could perhaps look - it seems to be a favorite 'stuck' place.

On the other hand, those "waves" of undead seemed to keep coming over that hill endlessly for me. Why don't you go up that hill and see if there's any undead stuck up there in their approach somewhere?

I wonder, have our DA

threads disappeared as well?  EDIT:  I found it and bumped it, if you feel like taking a look at it, or perhaps want to use it to post and continue  some cool DA
conversations in there.  I love the game, and I enjoy talking about it.  I might even like to do a replay - if only my unplayed games were clamoring so loudly in my ear...

SH3 looks ok, but the other ones seem too old for me. I'm a graphics whore, so i'm very unforgiving towards older games. No matter how good the gameplay, old graphics kill all immersion for me.

Even though i grew up with CGA-EGA-... games, I no longer enjoy playing old games

Darwinia is done. It was a nice game, not at all what I expected it to be, but nice.

Silent Hill 2 does not look that bad, does it? It is an early last gen game, but graphically it is not far from Silent Hill 3 (and the PC version looks better than the PS2 version)

Yes, SH3 is connected to SH1.

SH2 is a stand-alone (although loosely referenced in SH3 and SH4), but I also think it looks good by today's standards. They re-released it in "HD" for consoles, so perhaps look into that? Anyway, you can crank up the Noise filter and it will look awesome

Still playing Advent Rising, (had to get a copy of the game as my first Game disk has a flaw)..truly a spectacular visual treat and a fun and exciting game...GOG has it now, i noticed,

some views of the opening Space Port scenes....epic and wonderfullly done....

and also still playing Mafia I, i found a mod that opens up the view distance to infninite so you can really see the entire city at the same time, just like reality, and they did an amazing job on this game world, it is a unique and very sophisitcated game engine that this company developed and it runs a huge dynamic city with hundreds of people walking and driving and doing things on the streets, streetcars, elevated trains, real trains, ships in the river .....all functioning just as if it were 1933 and it were real...

uh, and ...the police are real too, and very vigilant i got three speeding tickets and they have their eye on me now

Hmmm, I have a copy of Advent Rising that I'd like to test out in 7.  I never got around to playing the game at all.  Was it earlier in this thread that you posted quite a bit about it, Chris?

Ya i think i did  Trav. It is a remarkable game, and dont worry about the combat which is part of the game, the AI does most of the work for you automaticaly and the graphics and the story are realy worth the effort. They did the in game video and the graphics so well that it is virtualy seamless. Quite a tour de force..i am looking forward to advancing farther as quite a lot happens later in the game but i have a commiosn to do asap ...so work calls.

ah ha... there is a community upgrade for that included in the FreeSpace Open Installer found here:

http://www.fsoinstaller.com/

the host site for this and for a ton of community made mods and expansion and new campaigns, many of the fully voiced and scripted is here:

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php

This is a vastly improved upgrade in graphics, better models, better effects better everything, created after years of work by dedicated fans and the community support for FreeSpace. As you may know, the developer of Freespace is no longer active but they established an open licence for the games that allows "friends to share with friends, allowing the game files and mods of them to be shared with others who have the actual game disks. So you will need to own FS2 and FS1 to install this, but it is a huge step forwardd. They are improving it all the time, and it is remarkable.

Well, will you believe it.. My Advent Rising seems to be working on 7, I don't even need patches or compatibility mode or anything.  Just shows you how many games came with a lot of unneccessary baggage which makes them less forward compatible.
