I'm still playing FC3 but it's getting quite boring, after the first few hours the game becomes quite repetitive. Only the main quests offer some new challenges. But the sidequests are always the same 'hunt animal X, kill Enemy Y" The islands are build with incredible detail though, so the explorer in me is still satisfied |

XerNosamSorcerer Apprentice![]() Posts : 339 Joined: 3 SEP 2007 Location: US, California Status : Offline | I've now completed the storyline quests and 'finished the game'.
Overall, I loved it. I put in about 50 hours exact playing through to beat the game, and thoroughly enjoyed (mostly) every second. As has been commented on by many, the tutuorial and quest pop-ups in game was truly distracting and annoying, and the world map bugged out on my quite a bit. I had hoped they would bring back the cool map 'style' that was used in Far Cry 3, but nay.
It had quite a bit of elements of Far Cry 2 (yay) but added enough new 'stuff' to keep it fresh and fun (and no magically respawning outposts every 20 seconds). I like that process of unlocking maps via radio towers, creating/crafting things based on animal hide and taking over outposts to unlock shops and unlocking new quests. Jason's comments were out of place at times too, but his disgust to skinning animals was always great
While I can see folks would get bored after completing the main quest I'm continuing to have a blast. I made most of the North island 'friendly' and have kept the majority of the South island hostile (by not taking over camps). Wiping out baddies and hiding to prep for an ambush when I hear them coming has yet to get old.
Pretty cool twists and turns throughout the story, and some pretty punishing/brutal scenes play out that kept me entertained. Vaas is one of the most insane antagonists yet - underutilized if you ask me.
Trav - I played DE:HR when it first came out and really enjoyed it. The elements of Thief were all over the place, and the setting/set peices were great - some folks called the environments fairly claustrophobic, but it isn't Skyrim, and it wasn't distracting in the least bit. There's many different ways to play, but I went more to knocking folks out then killing them, as it seemed to be most fitting with my ultra stealth character.
Anyhow, enough rambling for now. I've got Torchlight 2 installed (right before FC3 came out) so I think I'll jump back into that to balance out the FPS stuff...
And soon Dragonborn will be coming out for PC, and I'll HAVE to d/l and play through it, most definitely! It is interesting but not so far as interesting as the previous ones. I hope to move onto another of the TW series, and a mod about the American Civil War that i have been looking foward to seeing in action. TW developers are making a new version of Rome which should be fun as i hope they add the improved naval combat that they had in the latest Shogun title upgrade. Mostly working on other things but i do plan to re play some adventure games soon and i may take another look at Mass Effect 2, which i started but only got to the second world you visit so far. I'll comment on some of the other posts soon, i see a lot has happened since i last visited;- when i quickly logged in to JA in passing in the past few days, it wouldn't take me to the 'other games' forum! So, i thought nothing was going on here...
..but anyway, i have an urgent question to ask about Risen2. I'm on that first island-- Antigua, or whatever, and i've just reached the pirate's camp, but whenever i run in past that guard, through the wooden gates (He let me in bc i silver-tongued him) i get like an error massage that just says: i[end] and then i get thrown out to the main screen. I went outside the pirate camp and killed a few claw monkeys, but when i try to go down towards the beach, i get the same thing. Anybody got any ideas on this?
I was really enjoying the game until this started happening.. i can't find any info on the 'net about this problem, so i'm puzzled. * * * Just call me Trav. * * * “Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy. I keep it in a jar on my desk.” - Robert Bloch

Listen you guys, not only is GOG having a general crazy end-of-the-world 50% off sale, they also have a daily sale where they knock even more $'s off certain games. So watch them- they have quite a lot of games in stock by now.

TravellerGuild Master![]() ![]() Posts : 4039 Joined: 3 JUL 2010 Location: US Status : Offline | Thanks so much for your trouble, Chris! I really appreciate it. My problem though, is that i keep experiencing a crash after managing to pass the first gate guard, and I think i have now realized that this kind of crashing is unique to my own game. I suspect i know the reason why, as well.
Similar to with Skyrim, i disliked always having to go through Steam to initialize the game and didn't want Steam forcing patches onto me - apparently one cannot completely prevent them patching your games, you can only delay the patching. So, like with Skyrim, i cracked my game with a separate .exe that starts the game directly without one having to open Steam in order to play the game.
I think that is possibly where the problem came in. I fear i might have to uninstall and re-install the game and bear with the Steam nonsense if i want to finish the game. But, what really also put me off, is that while i was seeking for a solution to my problem, i came across a lot of posts by gamers complaining that one of the Steam patches messed up their game. Sigh.
Well, i do think you'll enjoy this game, Chris, I've personally been loving it, so all the more a pity about the abovementioned business.. * * * Just call me Trav. * * * “Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy. I keep it in a jar on my desk.” - Robert Bloch

it looks like that stage of the game is important so there is probably some complex coding going on, you can try using that alternative approach that my PM talked about ...but maybe you may have to restart. hope it works out one way or another.
it is an interesting game, sort of combines Far Cry with Pirate theme and Gothic style and some other stuff, a combo approach the graphics are fun too. Admin 3D Worlds and Game Developers http://3dworldandgamedevelopers.blogspot.com |

Yeah, looks like sadly i may have to re-install the game and restart, which i feel pretty sad about, so i'll take a raincheck with Risen 2 and try to beat Heroes of Annihilated Empires in a skirmish while playing the one race i haven't managed to beat it with yet;- the mechanicians. * * * Just call me Trav. * * * “Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy. markornikovJourneyman![]() ![]() Posts : 1302 Joined: 28 OCT 2011 Location: BE, Antwerp Status : Offline | Bought a few good titles with the steam sales:
Dishonored: Rushed through it quickly to get the overall plot and a terrible ending, now i'm playing it again stealthily without killing anyone. Indeed a completely different experience.
Darksiders: It's been a long time since i played an JRPG. loads of fun, a badass remake of Zelda.
Unmechanical: A short puzzle game similar to Full pipe. Too bad i ran into a gamebreaking bug at the end, so i had too watch the ending on youtube. Otherwise it would have been a wonderful experience.
Spirits: Somehow i overlooked this game when it was released, usually when i see a Lemmings-like puzzle game i instantly buy it. Simply Amazing.
Anno 2070: yet another proof that Bluebyte is the champion of the RTS genre. I was never interested in the anno games set in medieval times. This sci-fi version is more my cup of tea

1. They just up and stopped the IGN prime "PERMANENT" 15% coupon. Saying htat "permanent" didn't mean forever......what the heck does it mean thing? Said they'd offer compensation but nothing yet.
2. They had a "behtseda" collection for sale recently it was 28 bucks or so, included Dishonored, all the TES games, fallouts, etc. it made their site crash because it was so popular and they pulled the deal. They said that they ran out o fkeys and you could either wait until mind Janurary for keys or request a refund. Many of us were content with just waiting but then they turned around and refunded people and said that they had "technical problems" and would offer yet again some kind of compensatoin. Yet they are selling all of the games individually still so I don't see how they can have no keys anymore?
3. They had a four pack of borderlands 2, many people bought it and yet again, a "technical erroR" pricing mistake they say, they refund the people even after people paid for it (and some people had gifted it to friends, but those keys worked) and even some people that bought th eseason pass from other sites to go along with it, all of which ar eleft hanging now.
I mean how can oyu mess up this much? Meh, /rant off.
As far as sales go i've only picked up FTL from steam. It's been quite a lackluster holiday sale imo.
Gonna give Ftl a try and see how it is, heard lots of good things about it. |

I'm looking around more carefully now, a very good daily deal on steam can be even better on other sites. It seems steam hasn't been given a lot of good offers from the game developers |

I've actually ended up spending a bit more than expected during this sale. But not on Steam or Gamer's Gate. Steam got a massive 2€ in the form of me buying Armed & Dangerous, and I bought the bundles+Cargo Command from GG. Got a few steam keys from Gala Store, bought a few games from GOG and also some from Just Adventure instead.
And speaking of silly mistakes from stores, I also snagged Far Cry 1-3 (deluxe for 3) from GameStop for ~6€ when they made a mistake. That one apparently resulted in a few refunds as well for people who were late to the party. Current Let's Play: Crusader: No Remorse Last edited by Fnord : 29 DEC 2012 5:07pm |

Hi Trav - sorry to hear about the error in Risen 2 - I've been back and forth on whether I want to get it as, looking back, Risen was just OK IMO.
Anyhow, I didn't some 'net searching and found that there are quite a few folks that got that message while playing the 'beta' version of the game. My assumption is that you're not, correct? Are you playing it via Steam? Well, it looks like you've decided to take a break from it, so maybe I should move on, eh? Hahaha...
I just finished (after 4 short hours) Homefront and... yeesh. The premise and environments were cool... the gunplay (after many tweaks to get it stable) was alright. The NPC tag-alongs, short length, on-a-rail gameplay, uneven pacing, annoying bottlenecks and rollercoaster difficulty were not alright. I had high hopes, but meh. Mostly I'm happy that it was only 4 hours... while it was somewhat fun to play, the annoyances kept most of that fun at bay.
Anyhow, now I guess I'm on to something else... I've so many games to play, but not sure what game I'm in the mood to play. I've always wanted to tackle SimCity 4, and it'll be a nice break from the FPSs, RPGs, and MMOs. We'll see....

It got pretty poor reviews, but I suspect that it is at least in part because most people quite simply did not understand the game. It is an incredibly Swedish game, and in order to understand certain things that happens in the game you need at least a basic understanding of Swedish culture & language. Also, it quite clearly flirts a bit with people who played the classic Swedish pen & paper RPG Mutant. Current Let's Play: Crusader: No Remorse |

Back in 07 a group of amateur fimmakers made a short musical-ish movie that was basically a love letter to one of the classic pen & paper roleplaying games called Mutant. This was the result:
And when standing outside a bar in Krater I heard this:
They actually got the rights to use one of the songs from from that very obscure film that (to my knowledge) got shown once at a film festival in Gothenburg, and then was sold in incredibly limited quantities at a small number of niche stores around the country. The fact that devs even knew about this obscure film shows that they were most likely big fans of this old roleplaying game. Current Let's Play: Crusader: No Remorse |

Hi Xernosam! I bought the proper legit retail Steam version about 6 months ago, and installed via Steam and played with Steam for a few saves, but i never actually played the game much, because it really irritated me how much Steam seemed to be using up my bandwidth while i was playing it, so i stopped playing the game and decided to play it in December when i had a chance to look for a crack to crack Steam out.
I did the same thing with Skyrim- didn't like how it was forcing patches onto me, but i did buy the original legit game-- i do this with a lot of Steam games, and usually it seems to work fine, -- my game saves fine and it plays fine everything.
However, not with Risen 2 it seems. After i cracked the game, my gamesaves, even though they were on my hard drive, didn't want to work anymore, so i had to start the game all over again. So yeah, whatever the crack did, it also made the Steam gamesaves incompatible with the game.
I guess it's a no-brainer that it must be the crack that is causing that weird crash to happen. I wonder if there's a better crack out there somewehere, because i really really hate how Steam suddenly starts to use up all my PC reserves the moment i start playing a game on it... i honestly don't mind having to activate a game online, or even having to download a part of the game from Steam, but then i should be able to switch Steam off, and just be able to get on with my game, without having patches forced on me, and /or Steam hogging my bandwidth and messing up other downloads i may have going at the time... in my version of a perfect world... * * * Just call me Trav. * * * “Despite my ghoulish reputation, I really have the heart of a small boy. But instead of giving up and blaming the game to be a bad port. So I made a rather bold move and went out to buy an xbox controller. I believed that a console controller was only good for people who played mostly with consoles. I always defended the mouse+keyboard combination, but i must honestly say i made that was a terrible judgement of mine.
I've got to admit that darksiders plays a lot better with a controller, even without any experience i'm already dieing a lot less.
Now that I have a controller there's a bunch of other games that i can now finally play properly, like Renegade Ops or Dead Space. Which are both bad ports, but maybe they'll become playable now |

Those games play soooooooo much better with a controller, especially when climbing and jumping is involved. Dito for games like LA Noire or GTA, driving and flying is way better, not sure about the aiming yet though.
