Some updates:

11/6/2011:

Fixed some IE render issues. You may see odd colors throughout the day while i tweak them. IE is the only browser to not fully support CSS3

Fixed the Captcha issues members have been getting

Note to anyone who notices incorrect post counts:

The old forums crashed and took lots of data with it. While the posts may show up still, they lost their authors. Because of this the post counts are off. There is nothing i can do to get this back. I have spent many hours on it but i just can not get that data back. If you come across a post that you know that is yours, and it doesnt show you as an author, send me a PM. There is a 1% chance i may be able to recover a few of those posts for you.

Much thanks, Drew!

All the odd graphical glitches (at least with IE9 on my Win7 x64 system) seem to be gone now.

Cheers, Terry

I've never heard of this thing called the internet wayback machine......  Any chance it could restore the Caroline from wayback when she was thin?

Inland's post #55 still looks weird for me -- like it's been cut off. The Wayback Machine is at http://www.archive.org/web/web.php Unfortunately it doesn't work on people, or a lot of us would be using it.

I think Inland took a screenshot of the top border of his page only, Jenny, to show the colors there.

So it's possible that the forum I'm looking at isn't really as ugly as I see it?  I'm on IE8 and there are lots of hard to see bits.  I must say, I am rather amused that we're all seeing it differently.    There's a lot of black around pale blue boxes on my screen but I see it now fits the monitor.  There's a lot of work in something like this obviously.

Hi Traveller

Now I admit I am just another clog in the wheel here but why do you feel the new owners are editing you.  I know i policy is to never edit a post unless something offensive was posted.  As for the posts being lost again let me say that the old forum gave up the ghost and we worked very hard to recover what could be recovered.

I think it's bad. It doesn't look like JA+ anymore.
And performance is obviously improved.  YaBB always was very slow...
I didn't notice YaBB being slow. But this new one tends to hang when I first access it, which YaBB did not.

To be quite honest, this site loads and navigates much slower to me.  All these things as well as the new format, as well as the fact that half of our valuable threads have been lost, don't bother me half as much as the new atmopshere/attitude of it feeling like a police state where freedom of speech has been removed.  From what I understand from the new announcements/ rules/attitude and tools now in place, what I said there will be zapped with the : 'invisible' feature, where moderators will make anything negative said about the site invisible to the public, but still readable to the poster himself. (So you won't even know if other people can see your posts or not).

That is not in the spirit of the JA that I used to love and would have given my eye tooth to protect  (you guys all know how protective I always used to be towards JA)  Randy respected his readers and members.  Measures like these show a profound disrespect towards the wonderful membership of what had been Just Adventure.   Well, obviously, and sadly it's not the same place anymore.  The old Just Adventure simply didn't need such measures because everyone loved the site and loved Randy.

Why don't the new managment and staff rather strive for loyalty from their membership rather than try to enforce their will onto the posters?  The internet doesn't work like that.  All the mature people will just up and leave and go to a place where they can converse pleasantly with friends, while what will enter here, will probably be the very type of audience that needs policing ;- if nothing because they are already used to such treatment.  We are not.  We are mature adults, not to mention that agewise many of the posters here could probably the grandma/grandpa of the people they will be moderated by.  You don't get respect if you don't give respect.

We are not hear to change your fun or the things you like to do.  We have requested no staff member to leave and will not.   Anyone that leaves will be because they want to.  I am still reading all the posts here but be sure we want you to know we love adventure games and want the site to go on as before but (yes I know) the newer software available and this is a good thing for everyone.  Had we done our forum upgrade sooner a lot more of the forum might have been saved.  We can not operate taking everyone vote but we are posting and trying to answer your questions and wishes and I do hope that counts as something to everyone.

Editing and Cleansing.  - I am all for careful and responsible protection against trolling, spamming and obscenity and vulgarity. I will on that point ask that you REMOVE that smiley of the  something hitting the fan... it is in VERY BAD TASTE and NOT AT ALL FUNNY, it is at a level of about fourth grade humour and has no place on this or any forum.

Staffing - I also understand the need to bring in new people on the owner's new team. but..... i expect and desire and wish to have our current staff preserved and supported as much as they want to stay. We have developed over the years wonderful staff members here, I need mention no names as we all know them very well, and I expect and desire with the strongest feeling to have them kept on and supported in the wonderful work they have done and are doing. There is NO wiggle room on tnis Shane, with respect and I hope you hear this. We can totaly support and understand your needting to set your own course, I would like to have had more personal input from you and a notice from you on your signature of the forum change...but all that can and is forgiven as long as you respect our tradditions and our beloved staff members. thank you and I am wishing this new venture all the best luck.

We work together with a lot of other site admin and you are 100% correct it was an oversight and will be corrected if not already.

Is it possible that the owners of this site also owns at least one other site (which is about strategy & wargames), and they simply copy-pasted the ToS, and changed all refferences to that site, to just adventure, while forgetting to change that  particular bit?

We hope to give you more options to talk about and play adventure games and RPG.  We plan on opening a store just for adventure games.  Honestly if you have an idea or a feature you like to see tell us.

That Captcha resubmit thing should be fixed now. Its part of the spam/security system that is built into the forums. It may occasionally come up once in a while. After you enter the correct captcha code it will post the form again without losing anything.

We are working on converting all the reviews into the new system. Please be patient while we work hard to get as many back up as possible.

I see from the various comments that some treasured threads have vanished.  Is it possible that we may have to redo the Why Myst is the Best Game Ever thread?

Things could turn ugly but if they do, at least we have all the war-themed icons necessary for the battle.

Thanks you for all your input, Drew and DavidOrc!  I am extremely relieved to hear that you won't be pushing any of the old staff out, since I know they all love the site, and our old webmistress has been with thew site for at least 8 years and has worked tirelessly and uncomplainingly, and I personally happen to know that she had a lot of loyalty for and dedication towards Just Adventure and it's old owner.  I can only hope that she'll be able to adapt to all the new changes with a minimum of pain.

Regarding the editing of posts, I hopefully just misunderstood certain policy announcements.  Also, i felt concerned because parts of my post seemed to disappear, and sometimes even whole posts wouldn't post or the captcha would trip me up, just when the forums started running again.  This all seems to have been fixed now; thank you very much, so I'm all happy regarding that.  I quite understand that you guys are still tweaking the software, and these glitches must have been due to that.

Now the next 2 or 3 things I'm hoping for, is that you'll be able to organize sppoiler hide tags for us, and that the lost reviews can be recovered.

You know, way back around 2005/ 2006, the main reason I used to come to this site was to read the reviews.  I only joined the site a while after I started following the reviews, when i saw what a cool bunch of people was posting here!

Thanks again for your communication, and hard work in clearing things up!

Just a quick note about losing posts:  The Edit Post and Delete Post buttons are side by side in the edit window so be careful which one you click if you are in a hurry.  (Not that any of my posts have disappeared that way, understand.)

That's not going to happen because the Delete post button doesn't work, nothing happens after you confirm you really want to delete it.

I'm using Chrome, i don't know whether this also applies to other browsers.

Hi Traveller

I fully understand how you feel and we truly do not want to be stepping on any toes here.  We just want everyone to know are are here working on the site to make it better.  I am sure not everyone one will be thrilled about everything but we have no plans to setup stupid Nazi policies.  I think Drew has done your spoiler update for the forums so I need see if he did and if so I will have him post here.

As far as the articles go we are working on that everyday and most if not all will be added.  Please keep checking the site articles section and you should be able to find what we added.

I'm just trying out the new Spoiler Alertspoiler tags to see how they work.

Trying again.  Maybe it'll Spoiler Alertwork this time.

No luck.  The tags aren't working, Drew.
