Let's discuss our fascinating journeys through Fiction of the Interactive variety.

I've got several games of IF going simultaneously. I'm playing the Infocom games I haven't yet played - this includes Planetfall, HHGTG, Bureaucracy. I played Bureaucracy years ago, loved it but found it so frustrating so I gave up! I really hope to finish it this time. HHGTG is as hilarious as the book, but difficult too as you often have no idea what to do even if you've read the book. Planetfall I have to say is slightly disappointing, with such barren descriptions, but hopefully it will improve.

I'm starting the Enchanter series which isn't meant to be too hard, so as to ease me back into playing these sorts of games. But it's rather frustrating having to rush to find food and drink so my character doesn't die. I've found some bread but can't find any water yet. Hopefully when I have them both, that will put an end to the hunger/thirst so I can enjoy the game.

I also have going the legendary Curses - reputedly one of the toughest games in existence. I haven't turned to a walkthrough yet, but I've only got 29 points out of 550 after several hours and much toil, so I have a long way to go! I really want to finish this without any hints, but it's going to be incredibly hard. But I have to say, the solving the puzzles I have finished so far all on my own has been immensely satisfying.

So yeah. Interactive Fiction!

I have yet to play any interactive fiction, Walsh, but I do have Future Boy sitting on my shelf.  It sounded like a fun game to play, but I have to fire up my old iMac to play it in classic 9.  That means cleaning out the spare room, a chore I've put off for months now.

Future Boy looks interesting LK, I haven't heard of that one until now. I really like games combining text parser with graphics.

Sadly, I've given up on Enchanter. I really don't like having a time limit - I mean, you have a loaf of bread and a jug of water which needs to last you the whole game and if you use it up there's nothing you can do. Every few turns you get a "you are getting hungry", and that kind of thing really leaves a shadow over your head. I simply must have unlimited time to explore - (within reason, of course - it wouldn't make sense to give me unlimited time to get out of a room with spikes on a descending ceiling).

What I would love right now is another game like Anchorhead. That was a terrific game - suspenseful, with an amazing atmosphere. I don't think there is anything out there comparable, but I'll keep looking.

I've been thinking of trying out the original Zork games.  I might have one lying around somewhere, and thought I'd give it a bash in the December holidays.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it working, though..

Heh, funnily enough I have at least one Interactive Fiction game recently: Violet.  (I think that I may be forgetting at least one other Interactive Fiction game, but if so, then I do indeed seem to be forgetting it. ^^; )

The player is tasked wth finishing his (or "her" with a special command, I think) dissertation within the afternoon, under threat of the eponymous girlfriend's leaving.  This should be simple.  There's plenty of time.

Alas, there are also plenty of distractions...

Between the Violet's narration and the curious solutions involved, this is, I feel, and interesting and amusing game. ^_^

MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

*ahem*

Sorry.
