That said, as nice as it is to have a character talk to you, the importance of what they are saying or asking is summarized in your Quest diary, so you always know what to do.

The HUGE town of Erothin is massive and brimming with life, people, music. It has a breathtaking castle, gorgeous art gallery, a theatre with live music on stage and people dancing and twirling (LOTS of people), a cathedral with very scary crypt, a markettplace and so much more ....the entire place is filled with life, background noise, birds, water. Oblivion is dead as a doorknob compared to this.
I'll post some screenshots if I can tear myself away. Trav, do tell me if you think they are multipurposing their Morrowind project.....not that it matters to me.
Wow.

I'd be happy if Skyrim looked like this, just with complex enough gameplay and a good, original story. ...but I'm betting from what I've seen so far, that the story will lean more towards "epic" than original... :
I've already dlded this, and would be playing this if I hadn't already committed to so many other games. (Witcher 2 alternate path, FO:NV, Tex Murphy, Arcanum, Morrowind & Oblivion missing quests, Arcania, Dragon Knight Saga etc.) I need to finish a game or 2 first, before I start up a new one. :-/
Oh, for more hours in a day...

Since i'm a male i can't process two things at the same time, so i end up understanding only half of what is being said :-/ And i don't seem to be able to block out those voices in my head [smiley=boggled.gif]
Turning off the subtitles is not an option as my german isn't good enough to understand everything that's being said :-/ I adjusted the voice volume to 10 and left the other sound volumes at default. At that point speech is only audible enough to act as a prompt so that you don't unintentionally miss any of the time provided to read the text. Anyhow, that's what worked the best for me back when Broken Sword 2.5 was released in German with English subtitles. :-/

This IS a spoiler and will ruin the surprise if you go there. Otherwise, enjoy. I get an immense kick out of having this Oblivion.

I am now playing in an entirely new environment in this game....screenshots to come...and, frankly, it blows Oblivion away. Nothing in Oblivion is as sophisticated and detailed as this. The only difference is that Nehrim does not waste time with dialog, especially with non-essential characters. The focus is on visuals and meaningful conflict, and, man, it succeeds!
The main quest is linear--refreshingly so--but you can always zoom off to explore and get other quests.
Beware...fighting is tough...REALLY tough sometimes. You'll need all your tricks, and console commands are slim.

How odd.
A torch-lit theater with electric stage lights.

But I love the energy of the people and fun.

Go to Games (or whatever folder you installed to) >Nehrim and from the list of files click NehrimLauncher (the one with the little icon). Click the Data Files tab und uncheck all boxes except Nehrim.esm, NehrimData.esp, NehrimEnglish.esp.
Hm, I've looked at all of Halcyon's screenshots but don't see any from the very beginning. I guess that would possibly be a spoiler though.

There is a lot of walking or riding, though, since the teleport system is different than Oblivion (you need to get to a town, then find and buy the teleport rune for that town, and then you can teleport there).
But as I said, both the wildlife and the bad guys are tough fights. I've really improved my retreating skills!

i will come check it out soon...sounds fun..and that teleport system sounds like a good way to do it. Sounds like the development team did a great job on that.

Of course, it is in German with English subtitles, but you get used to it quickly....although the text is hard to read sometimes.
Loving it. More screengrabs soon.

Screengrabs cannot communicate the experience of the game... you don't see the swaying trees in a storm, hear the rain on a pier, realize the extreme fear of a situation.
Please follow the instructions on how to activate the game...and GET IT.

Here are a couple more. I'll end with these, since I sense I large disinterest in this game, and I'm not sure why. EVERYONE should be buzzing about Nehrim--even if it is in German with English subtitles that are at times difficult to read against the background and that really pisses me off but since the game is so great I forge onward.

Not disinterest- just a busy busy time of year. Anybody who's been studying anything, is writing/preparing for exams at the moment, and everybody else is trying to get their work done in time for the December holidays, and everybody else is trying to get whatever they've been playing finished in order to have a relatively clean slate slate when the November/December slew of games arrive.
As for myself, the timing just couldn't have been worse - I'm already partway through with some pretty involving RPG's - New Vegas, DKS, Arcania, Witcher 2 path 2, and Arcanum. I've given up my "missing quests replay" of Oblivion and Morrowind in dispair (and after all the trouble I went through to make Morrowind look beautiful) - those are just sitting there on my hard drive waiting for better days, as is my not even a quarter through playthrough of ME2.
I am so swamped, that I didn't even bother to re-install 2 Worlds 2 and Drakensang River of Time on my new system, after I'd started it on my old one. Or Gothic2 NOTR, or Gothic 3. I didn't even bother to purchase Deus Ex Human Revolution.
You don't want to know how many half-played adventure games I have sitting on my system. All in all, I have about 20 installed but not finished games just sitting there.
Nehrim counts amongst those (have it installed though not working) - I was willing to check it out (and pretty curious to see it, after this thread) but it seems to involve some fiddling to get it to play, and after all the hours and hours and hours of fiddling 7 has cost me, I honestly don't currently have the stomach for more fiddling.
Please just give people a bit of time, I'm sure they'll still come around to it. I feel just as frustrated that no-one seems to be interested in Dragon Knight Saga (Divinity 2 + expansion) or much anymore in Witcher 2, etc. I guess this just isn't a very busy site anymore, which is sad. Probably because so many other sites have sprung up that offer walkthroughs; and walkthroughs are the in thing these days... [smiley=shrug.gif]
