Anyone familiar with or involved  Nehrim - At Fate's Edge ?

http://www.nehrim.de/indexEV.html

If so, please provide a status quo and opinion.

From the download screen:
Total Conversion for Oblivion: "Nehrim - At Fate's Edge" is a finished Total Conversion for the RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That means it is a self-contained game that bases upon the Oblivion game engine, but has no relation to Oblivion's lore. It is a world in which neither Tamriel nor any other TES based name exists. The continent itself on which the game is situated is called Nehrim, it is completely independent from the base game. Nehrim was developed by the Sureai Team (www.sureai.de). We have already created two Total Conversions for Morrowind, named Arktwend and Myar Aranath, but unfortunately there never was an English version of them. This time, however, we will develop an English version of the project with translated texts and German voice acting.

It looks beautiful.  Are you getting it, Halcyon?  Since it's free, I think I'd like to try it!

MM, I wonder if it already has English subtitles though...  My German isn't that hot...

Seems so.  This guide helps.  http://perfectworlds.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/nehrim-english-version-install-and-troubleshooting-guide/

The download section does specifically mention an English version, so presumably that's not a problem.  Of course, it may not be very good English...

Yes there's English subtitles

NOTE:  In the download directions (a dowloadable PDF, and also on the page Trav links to above), there are instructions for those using Windows 7.  I think it says to save NOT in either of the Program Files folders (to avoid the User Access Control stuff).  Be sure to read it.

I am for sure getting this.

BTW, I"m having trouble installing and running the OMM and the FOMM.  Any of you Windows 7 gamers out there have a solution?

Strange. With Win7 both of the MMs work fine for me. When you mention “trouble installing” could you be more explicit?

This is the version of the FOMM that I’m using.

I forget the exact message, but it is a permissions issue.  I"m sick of the User Account Controls and I"m disabling it all.  We'll see if that works.  Are you using them, and, if so, are you using them properly?  And if so, how did you install the MM?

I started playing Nehrim.  Love it so far.  The German voicing is a bit creepy and the subtitles are not exactly large.  The translations seems to be very good, though.  It feels like a new and improved Oblivion.

Glad you got it to work, Halcyon.

My download is going very slow, I guess I'll only have it in time to install tomorrow, and I might not have time tomorrow, but will join you sometime in the week, in any case.

Have fun, and do give us an update every now and then!    [smiley=wave.gif]

Deleted UserOMM: I let this install to default Program Files (x86)/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion-Main folder. With whatever means you use to launch the program you have to go into properties and change compatability to run as admin, other than that it seems to work fine as I have installed about a dozen mods.

FOMM: I downloaded the newest version and followed the instructions given here
The program installs to Program Files (x86)/GeMM folder but recognizes FNV is in the Steam directory. Program asks which game you want to manage.  (FO3 is on my PC so when I get a chance I'll take a look at that too.) With FNV a screen will pop up informing you that 'Fallout.ini' is read-only so it can't be managed by FOMM. You are then prompted would you like to make it not read-only. Pretty much it.

CB, I tried what you suggested, and I still get a crashtext log.  I"ll figure it out.  It is not essential.

Nehrim is extraordinary.  Gorgeous, different, a tweaked Oblivion leveling, skills, and combat, and so far not too much talk -- which means not too much German to listen to.  The translations still hold up--with good humor.

Tip--early on, don't confront, run.  The in-game popups will tell you this, but I tried to get macho with my little dagger and died and died.  The alternatives are very clear in this game so far.

Oblivion lovers...get this.  But follow closely the install directions.

Big question:  If I'm still playing Oblivion, will this mess up my Oblivion in any way?  Ok, I mean could it?

Can you guys still carry on with your previous Ob gamesave after you installed Nehrim?

Maybe a seperate install of Ob on a different drive might be safest, I'm thinking.

it wouldn't be a problem with vanilla oblivion. But I suppose you have some mods installed, so after installing and uninstalling, some files may go missing or be corrupted.

I think it would indeed be wise to install ob on a different drive.

Yes, I have such an assortment of mods that I don't even know myself what and what not anymore.

So install on a different drive it will be.  Glad I thought of it.

The Nehrim people say it is no problem at all, since Nehrim copies all your Oblivion stuff.  To run Oblivion, you would have to turn on all your mods again.  Running on a separate drive certainly does eliminate all doubts though.

It is always good to see new mod projects, ..it is NOT a totally new game but a mod based on the Oblivion engine and as it uses Bethesda Resources the only way it can be legal is that it is called and accepted as a mod of the game. Otherwise it is an illegal pirated rip off and I dont support that.

So if they are willing to be known as an Oblvion Mod then I am fine with that but if not they should be shut down.

They are legit.  They did the same thing for Morrowind (in German).  This is a full game, built, written, and voiced (many dozens of people) for the Oblivion engine (it duplicates your Oblivion files for use with their mod exclusively), so it is technically a mod.  You can still play Oblivion, of course, but Nehrim must run separately.

It is wonderful.

Translated from their Web page:

Scharesoft the Forum, the largest German TES community has once again held elections to mod-Vivec, Academy of Elder Scrolls mods.

SureAI has won four awards.

The first for the best Oblivion mod with Nehrim.
The second for the best Oblivion Mod team.
The third best for the Oblivion mod with Nehrim story.
And the fourth for the best scoring one Oblivion mod.

Some Nehrim images from early in the game.  Haven't really gotten to a village or town yet.

these shots look dissappointing, they could've easily been taken in oblivion, while the ones shown on the website look completely different :-?

Mark, disappointing in what sense?  The images on the website are over-saturated, but look like what I"ve been seeing in-game. This is, after all, an Oblivion mod as much as Lost Spires is.  It's like Oblivion is on one continent and Nehrim is on another, but it is still the same planet during the same era.

I had the impression that Nehrim used different textures and building architecture.

Your second screenshot could've been taken in any random shop in the capital city of Oblivion.

This screenshot on their website, looks like it's taken from an entirely different game

Spoiler Alert

Naaa, I saw a scene like that. The sunsets are gorgeous and there are some technical and graphical differences/improvements.

In other locations, there are cookie-cutter interiors right from the Oblivion modders toolbox, but the vast percentage of everything has been recreated over four years.

That screenshot you point out is nothing like anything I saw in Oblivion.  Sure, it is similar, but it is different with a large upstairs, a cellar, and I think that might be the building with the underground grotto.

There are other differences as well--race, leveling, skills, spells.  For instance, there is no transporting from one place to the other via the map.  You need a teleportation rune, as well as a pod to transport to.

The potion bottles have been redesigned, the books work a different way, plus all the people speak German, which creates a whole different ambiance as you read the English subtitles.

I've played Oblivion for hundreds of hours, and this feels fresh and new and challenging.

I have not looked deeply into the storyline. I think it is linear, so you have to force yourself off the main quest to explore and launch side-quests.

That said, I have not joined any of the Councils yet, and I'm sure they have their own quests/tasks that need to be accomplished.

The entire opening part of the game is nothing like you've seen in vanilla Oblivion. And you do things that you were never asked to do in Oblivion.

That pic looks like it's straight out of Morrowind though. (The Ashlands). Apparently these people also did 2 Morrowind conversions, but sadly all in German.
