Status : Offline | I own the game (it came in a pack with some other game I can't recall right now which) but it's not one my favourite games.
I didn't enjoy it much, I confess. I didn't find it very scary or disturbing, mostly unpleasant in some parts I think. One of these that left a more enduring memory was the scene where you find some jars Spoiler Alertwith body parts inside them... and they talk to you!.
Nowadays, it wouldn't probably be a game I would have bought and even play to the end. Back then I had much more free time and less games available (although even back then I couldn't endure with a game called Gadget [smiley=zombie.gif]) !

Status : Offline | I felt pretty much the way TechnoSpike did when I played it. I know some people got really upset about that part TechnoSpike mentioned with Spoiler Alertthe body parts, because you realize this trusting little boy was dismembered piece by piece by the evil "doctor" in successive operations -- all because he liked doing "little girl" things like playing with dolls. And now all that's left of him are the body parts in the jars, and he still doesn't know what happened to him and his soul is apparently stuck there forever near those jars. More disgusting than scary. And for me it was just too far over the top to be believable. I thought the game would have been creepier if it had stuck to events that were more plausable.
The Dark Fall games and Scratches both made use of unexpected sounds and visual surprises -- for example a certain dummy in a diorama that mysteriously changed position when you turned away from it. Was it malevolent or benign? You don't really know, and that puts you more on edge than if it had actually attacked you. Blackstone Chronicles lacked that kind of subtlety and was generally more predictable -- except when it was ickier than expected (as in the spoiler above).
BlackStome Chronicles used QuickTime 3, and I had to disable DirectDraw to get it to work properly. There was also a Cursor Thread error where you had to edit your win.ini file. ***link to discussion of Cursor Thread error***

But it held me and I wanted, no, I needed to find out what was happening. So for me, it worked.
