Status : Offline | Condolences, Colpet. My XP PC also died a while ago, and I got so irritated whith 7, that I installed Win XP and Win 98 on a virtual machine. IIRC, you mentioned sometime that you still have an old 98 PC running somewhere, for you old games, though? If so, wise decision.
Oh, and you didn't mention what your new specs are, but I hope you have fun with your new PC, anyway.

My son has had his computer 3 days and he hates Windows 7. But not as badly as he hates Apple Mac computers in school. LOL

So we all share the pain... Oh, and congrats with finally running the new system, Caroline! Besides 7, I hope your son is enjoying all the power he has at his fingertips (hardwarewise).
Colpet, you were wise to stick with 32-bit, since the games you tend to play, won't be needing more than 3 Gigs sysRAM for a while to come yet.
Now I'm feeling very curious as to which GPU (video card) JKing would have recommended to you..
Maybe he'll remember if he logs in sometime and reads this. Would you mind if he tells us if he does? :-* (If he reads this, I mean)
You could emulate XP for free on your new system if you have enough system resources for that.
As to the sticky drawers, I can't remember if you can open and close those via your explorer in Win 95/98; you can on the newer Windows operating systems.

Yesterday we bought the speakers and he was delighted to feel the music throbbing through the floor.... hmmm :-/
I think I just created techie-heaven for my 16 yr old.
Here he is with his booty, a TV & PS3, his own computer and a good buddy staying over for the weekend. I don't expect them to emerge except for food.

It was a recent nVidia card, anyway.

Phew, that is one seriously spoilt kid. I hope he appreciates his generous parents & grandparent. Glad to hear that he is enjoying all his lovely loot...

Youngest son is mad keen on computers and expects to make his career in IT. I see this computer as an investment in his future. I gave the older son his choice of pc for his 18th last year and he chose a HP touchscreen that came in at the same price.
All this technology in the house has freed up the TV in the living room once more but there's a lot of wires running along skirting boards.

Caroline, I know exactly what your talking about, having 2 boys myself ( a little older than yours ) we always had/have alot of technology going on around here, and yes wires everywhere. The neighbors used to think the same thing, that the boys were spoiled. But they really werent mainly because it was me and my husband that enjoyed video games and computers long before the boys were old enough to use them. In todays world I think most kids have their own pc's. along with phones and all that good stuff. that we never dreamed of 20 years ago. I remember seeing "soylent Green" when I was 16 and they were playing some type of space invaders game and thinking WOW! I hope I live long enough to see that kind of stuff.

And weren't the space invaders games just the biggest thing when they did come out? [smiley=rofl.gif]

I meant spoiled on this specific occasion, as in :" I'm going to spoil you for your birthday"; so it looks like you'd misread me; I never would have expected anyone to become impolite because of receiving a nice gift . :-*

It does of course often happen that neighbours 'share' your bandwidth if you use wireless networking. Fot this reason our ISP specifically requested that we disable our wireless, if we don't use it. Luckily I don't at the moment, because my bandwidth is quite expensive.
I have also heard of people actually diddling the electricity meter somehow that it shows a lower reading. :

Then, after he died, at his request, his wife sent me Amber, Journeys Beyond but I don't think I'll ever get it to play. To be honest, I think he sent it because of what it says on the case:Death is not the end.

Even without trying very hard, the game does some pretty scary things and has some great cutscenes. Very professional.
Ah, Daryl. Rest in peace.

I'm not sure, but I think it may have a 16-bit installer, in which case one might have a problem in XP as well. If you have an old compy with Win 95 or Win 98 running somewhere, you might be in better luck for the game.
I also have not played it, but I'd really still like to play it sometime, by hook or by crook. Caroline, how say you we could both make use of dual booting and put our old Win 98 on, and play it, say in November? Well, middle to late November - I'll be off then. 8-)
