Just bought the game. Was hoping to play it on 7. Having trouble with 7's autoplay feature as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Deleted UserWelcome to the JA forum Tryer.

Just to break the ice here, Crystal Key uses an old version of QuickTime that is not supported with Win 7.  Sorry about that.  Check to be sure that any other older games that you might consider to buy in the future do not utilize QuickTime.

For your own sake in the future I would recommend posting whether or not potential purchases are compatible with the Win 7 operating system. We do our best here to answer these questions and pose possible fixes.

If you're prepared to go to a lot of trouble for the game, and still have your old copy of XP, you can always always download VirtualPC from Microsoft and install XP into the VirtualPC software.  Then you can play all the games that aren't compatible with 7, but still play in XP, in there.

I've played one or 2 games like this in a virtual machine now, and though it is a bit of extra trouble, at least it works.

I wondered why I was having trouble with Windows 7 QuickTime. Thanks for the help.

You can still download windows virtual PC for Windows 7 and install XP in it. As long as you have an XP disc you should be set. Windows 7 pro/deluxe does offer you a "free" pre-configured virtual machine for windows XP, that nothing stops you from downloading microsoft virtual PC.

You can try the patch in my signature for Crystal Key it is not optimized for Windows 7 as I dont support that bloated and wasteful system, XP is still the Gold standard for classic gaming and looks like it will be until or unless Microsoft makes a decent improved system with the same flexibility. My patch may help you if not you try posting on Vogons forum it is one of the best places on the net to get help with running classic games.
