Status : Offline | Welcome back! There have been a few notable AGs in the recent years, including: Gray matter (not a very hard game, but I found the atmosphere to be great) The whispered world (a really charming adventure game, with a great art style) Machinarium (A rather light adventure game, but again very charming) Frogware's Sherlock Holmes series (first game was released back in 2002 (and was frankly not very good), but there have been several games released in it more recently, latest being vs. Jack the ripper)
Telltale games have also been busy releasing smaller episodic games, following their success with Sam & Max Season 1, so those might be worth checking out as well. The silver lining (King's quest) was also finally released in 2010, in an episodic format, and is free to download.
Culpa Innata is one of those games that seem to split the community, some people love it, some hate it. I'm in the later camp, but it might still be worth checking out.
Oh, and avoid the latest Leisure Suit Larry, it is not really an adventure game, it has a horrible artistic style and it is apparently incredibly bad (I have not played it though).

I also thought Jolly Rover was good.

The Lost Crown Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper Memento Mori The Black Circle (if you like Carol Reed mysteries)
Culpa Innata only if you are feeling patient and forgiving and, well, drunk Black Mirror (any edition) is worth it, IMO For fun, although there is violence involved, Mafia 2

Hotel Dusk, 999, Ghost Trick, Thersia Dear Emily and The Last Window are all well worth your time to play. I loved all of them.
The shock of the year was "Crime Lab". City Interactive does not exactly has a sterling reputation for grade A adventure games but this site gave the game an "A" grade so I tried it out. It was actually quite fun for the price. Not "Hotel Dusk" or anything but a very solid adventure game for the price.

Most of things are covered already, actually the best games that have added the latest and greatest new graphics and other new things to games are in more action related games..such as the Mass Effect series, and the ongoing Elder Scrolls franchise and ditto re the Tomb Raider series..and what will be the next installment of the Longest Journey series...adventure game story quality has not kept up with the improvements of computing and graphics.... and there havent really been any real innovations to the basic Hunt, Defeat the Forces of darkness/climate change/horror and crime/mystery/Atlantean-Sci Fi-Alien/Dystopia threat...... but i keep hoping.
The revivals of Classic games such as the remake of Monkey Island have been a flop imho. But we can, as i said, keep hoping....and for now, just find adventure with a bit more action that we used to need to do.

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you - the last few years being busy with the "life stuff" - and now starting to get back into playing the latest games.
Whereas you have blossomed into a lovely young woman seeking to commence Adventure gaming where she left off, I've been playing bit parts in movies such as Troll Hunter (as the Troll), The Walking Dead (as one of the Dead), and I'm currently into Alternative Funereal Music. Good - but dessicated - times!
I've struggled with Call of Cthulu and the Frictional Games (Penumbra, etc.) but your asking about the newer games will help others, too. Here's one from 2005: have you played Barrow Hill?
I'm just happy to see you back, and look forward to see which of the more current Adventure games you are enjoying. :-*
Please proofread your posts carefully to see if you any words out.

I enjoyed those games so much! Except Theresia, I thought the beginning was super stupid and couldn't go on

Gray Matter was very well written and atmospheric. It's a must play if you enjoy point and click adventures.
I really enjoyed Gemini Rue and thought it was brilliant. A little easy, but excellent story and well realised world.
Heavy Rain is a fantastic 'experience'. Not much of a 'game' really, but still very enjoyable to play, excellent production values and very exciting in parts.
I played The Whispered Word and found the production values were very good, and overall it was a good game, but the puzzles annoyed me a little.
It just felt like when you solved a puzzle, another one related to the one you just solved appeared just for the sake of it. If you enjoy puzzle heavy adventures you'll love it.
Hotel Dusk on the ds is very good, but more of a vaguely interactive novel.
I played Pheonix Wright on the ds and wouldn't really recommend it. It was ok, but I felt a bit over-rated and it went on a bit.
I've started playing the Blackwell Chronicles and am enjoying them so far.

1) Yes, Hotel Dusk is an interactive Novel with Puzzles, its sequel "The Last Window" is even better - with more puzzles to solve and they are more difficult too.
2) I though the first Phoenix Wright games were only OK. BUT - the THIRD one - "Trials and Tribulations" is simply amazing - the characters in it are quite vivid and really well animated.
3) The people behind the Phoenix Wright games also did the amazing "Ghost Trick" game as well.

DS, Wii (downloadable and really cheap), cellphones and there is even a windows version (though I don't know if that one is in English). I thought the game was entertaining, though it is not a particularly deep.
