You had me at "deep & complex". Sold!
Re: VVVVVV, your comments encouraged me to pick it up again after my first play session a little while back that had convinced me this was beyond my rather atrophied twitch gaming skills. Well, I'm glad I gave it a another chance, because playing a little bit more showed me what you were saying about the game being forgiving and unforgiving.
Many challenges look hard, but once I caught on to what needs to be done in any given situation, they become, well, not easy, but doable with a little practice and patience. (Though with a few exceptions -- "o As I Say, Not As I Do" is kicking my butt with extreme thoroughness. But other than that, I've felt challenged without being frustrated, and that reflects well on the game design, I think.

That was the part with the guy following you, right? It was quite hard, probably the second hardest part of the entire game (with only Veni Vidi Vici being harder, but that part is optional).
By the way, another game was added to the Humble indie bundle: Space chem.

Thanks! I've been interested in Gemini rue, and now looks like an excellent time to try it out.
*edit* They have apparently done some planing ahead. There are 3 more upcoming bundles, with the next one being called "the difficult 2nd bundle". Good marketing on their side, I'm already curious about what goodies that one might contain.
*edit 2* NyxQuest: Kindred spirits NyxQuest is yet another side scrolling puzzle platformer. Not saying that there is anything wrong with puzzle platformers, but it feels like most indie 2d sidescrollers fall into this category. In this game you control a divine being who has fallen in love with Icarus, and who has to save him, and the world, from the wrath of Helios. Most of what is going on is based on Greek mythology, including all the enemies (harpies, minotaurs and hydras). At first you are totally helpless, all you can do is avoid things. Soon you will learn the power of telekinesis, at which point the game starts to become interesting. Now you can manipulate parts of your environment, and also grab fireballs and throw them back at enemies. The gameplay mechanics works quite well, and combined with your characters ability to fly for short periods of time and glide through the air, the developers have managed to create some interesting levels, which requires you to do several things at once. The game is short though, at just under 2½h (first time playing the game), I feel that its asking price of 10€ is a bit too high. If it is on sale, or found in a bundle (which was how I got my copy) then it will probably be worth a try, as it is a good game, but wait for one of those before you get this game.

New Humble bundle. There are 3 games in it, of which 1 is in alpha. The games are: Voxatron, a top down free roaming shooter with voxel graphics and a destructable environment (this game is still in alpha)
The binding of Isaac, a rather dark zelda 1/smash TV/rogue like-style game.
Blocks that matter, yet another puzzle platformer. This one is both innovative in its design and quite cute, and probably the highlight of the bundle.
*edit* I just noticed that I can give thumbs up on my own posts, so this gone gets a thumbs up, just becuase I can

We can't let that happen, now can we? There has to be some way to prevent the war before it breaks out.
A.R.E.S: Extinction agenda
This is an indie 2d platformer, and for once one that does not involve a lot of puzzle solving (not that I mind puzzle solving, but from time to time it is fun to play something simple).
Gameplay in this game reminds me a lot of the classic game Abuse, which was released for PC back in 95. Well, actually only the controls actually reminds me of that game. Aiming is mouse driven, you put your cursor in the direction that you want to fire, while movement is done with the keyboard. The game is simple enough you jump from platform to platform, gather powerups (and components for powerups), shoot enemies and move through the level. There are some places where you need to find keys scattered through the level, but it is rather straight forward, as there is usually only one way to go.
The translation was a bit spotty. While I was unable to find any actual mistakes (like spelling errors or poor grammar), some of the dialogue was a bit unclear as to what it actually referred to. This was not a story driven game though, so it was not a big issue. And the game was made by a small team from Thailand, who probably did not have enough resources to hire professional translators. They probably did their best, and the game does not suffer much from this very minor issue (and it is still better than what many "professional" translators have done).
The major issue with the game is its length. 104min, according to steam, and that includes loading times and times when I had to turn off the game before I had managed to reach the next savepoint. This is not a lot for a first time player. The game was also rather easy, something that was made even worse by the fact that you could craft your own repair kits (you play as a robot, so these things heal you) on the spot. This made it possible to just brute force any boss that could in theory have been tricky.
Still not a bad game, but I feel that its price of 10€ is a bit too steep for its length.

I noticed that the total amount of 'likes' etc. gets summed up in the profile screen.
Once Trav, Caroline, etc. notice this i expect a full scale war to get as much likes as possible
Hah - did you think I wouldn't see you post now that "10 most recent" feature is gone? ...but Caroline might not have seen it, ..so watch me now... LOL
Nah... anyway, she already made overseer, and here I'm still a lowly whatever, so no competition anymore.
You're serioulsy enjoyimg the smilies, aren't you markonikov?  id you see that all your posts are showing you as Pooky now with a post count of exactly 2 posts!
Gee, check this one: Weird!
Ahem! Sorry Fnord.
Guess what, I'm too lazy to go through this thread again to see if anyone has mentioned the Humble Bundle yet. Let me just mention again that you really get a good deal. You can pay what you like for the main offering, but you get a bunch of games in addition if you exceed their average contribution by just one cent. ..and they often even add a game after you purchased the bundle! http://www.humblebundle.com/ Sorry and sincere apologies if this has already been mentioned, I'm just re-iterating what a cool idea I think this is.
* * * Just call me Trav. * * *

There is a huge indie sale right now over at Gamers gate, and there are a few great games in there. Frozen Synapse, Jamestown, Bastion, Avadon, Machinarium to name a few.
Fnord - thanks for the heads up. I picked up Machinarium and Samorost 2 - wonderfull artwork. Not a big fan of the GamersGate website design tho and I've avoided it because it's really slow/laggy [for me at least], always loading tons of graphics and getting bounced to pages I'm not trying to reach trying to click out of things. I seem to notice this more on Europeaon sites - is it Flash or Shockwave related I wonder? Great resource though.

I have not had any issues with Gamers Gate. What browser are you using? (I'm using Chrome) I also have a 100mbit connection, and and I nearly live within walking distance from their servers, which I guess helps quite a bit as well.
I'm back to IE after trying Chrome and not liking it - same for Safari. The lagginess is tollerable if I know what I'm after but makes browsing not so fun. I also have pretty decent cable internet. GOG is easy to move around in by comparison.

Pre-order is up for the next Indie royale bundle. No idea what it will contain though. As they had issues with the server being overloaded on launch last time, I guess this is a way to ease the load a bit.

Ben there, Dan that!
Ben there, Dan that! is a point & click adventure along the line of the old Lucas arts games (more specifically Sam & Max). You follow the adventures of Ben & Dan, who get transported into a spaceship, which has doors to alternative dimensions, all of which shows an alternative version of London. Each dimension has a few puzzles to solve, which in turn will give you the tools needed to solve other puzzles, or open doors to new dimensions. Everything has a very traditional Lucas arts adventure game feel to it, from the comments that the two characters make, to the slightly but not really logical puzzles that you encounter. Unlike many games with very "alternative" logic, Ben there, Dan that! gives you enough hints on what to do next for it to never really feel frustrating. This does on the other hand mean that a seasoned adventure gamer will breeze through the puzzles, and as there are not a whole lot of dimensions to visit, the game is rather short (the game took me just under 2h 20min, and another friend on steam has spent exactly as much time with the game). The graphics did not really do it for me, but this game was a 2man project, and it was overall fun enough for such a minor issue to be easy to ignore.

If anyone is interested, the indie searchlight talks about one of the most influential indie games ever released, explains its background and what it did to the industry. No, they are not talking about Darwinia, but Cave Story.
The video can be found here. But before you watch it, do note that there are spoilers in the video. He warns about them, and I guess the idea is that you should turn off the sound, as he have a "spoiler" marker on the screen, but too many story spoilers are shown on screen, and you don't want to spoil the story in this game. Spoilers takes place between 17:30-19:55, so skip that part.

Thank you very much for linking to that, Fnord - that was rather interesting. ^_^
(Thankfully I've already played Cave Story, so there was no cause to skip the spoiler section.)

And the (steam) content of the next humble bundle has been leaked. Plenty of good stuff in this one! I already own BIT.TRIP.RUNNER (nice game, though nothing outstanding), Jamestown (amazing retro (early-mid 90's arcade) style vertical shooter, one of the best in its genre of all time, and yes it beats the games it tries to emulate) & Nightsky (which I have not played yet). The rest will be: Super Meat boy, Shank and if you beat the average Gratuitous Space battles and Cave story+ (I have made my feelings about cave story clear in the past, I'm a big fan of this game)
