Until now, I've been just a lurker in this forum. Finally, it is time to say something.

My name is Teemu Vilén and I'm here to shamelessly plug our upcoming horror-mystery adventure Alpha Polaris. The came will be available at 24th, and several localized version are soon to follow. I urge all of you to test the demo, which can be found at www.turmoilgames.com.

We have strived to capture a distant, Arctic atmosphere to the game.

It would be nice to hear what you think about the demo

Deleted UserI'm not sure if it is really necessary to have separate character panels pop up up on the screen during conversations.  It is a bit distracting considering the size of the images.  Back in the day when screens were more pixelated the practice was useful, but today no longer necessary.

Other than that and a few cheeky item descriptions it looks interesting.

We actually decided to do dialogue pictures because at first, we didn't think we would get voice acting for the project. The necessity of them seem to somewhat divide opinions.

Interesting to see what the reviews say!

I'll be getting this for sure. It's out two days before my birthday as well, which is a bonus!

I really like the portraits, they are tastefully done. The art style reminds me of the drawings on this site: http://yourscenesucks.com/

Surprisingly I have to say the voice acting is quite good.

…Hmm, so that's where the end of the demo leaves us.  I've always had a love/hate relationship with demos. Love that opportunity to get a good first-hand look at the environment, character(s), and feel for the overall quality of gameplay.  Hate that they tend to end right at that precise moment when the plot begins to thicken.  Needless to say this one fills both measures equally although I suppose I would have felt even better had I been able to get a sense of the atmospheric horror elements, other than the harsh environment that is.  Guess I have to wait a little longer.

I don’t mean to be rude, but was wondering if it would be appropriate to enquire regarding the selling price as it doesn’t seem to be listed on the linked page, at least at the time of this post. :-/

Just between me and you and the rest of the internet
, we'll sell the game at little under twenty euros, including VAT.  So if you are American, you'll get the game at about 20 bucks.

Horror in adventure games, now that is an interesting subject. My personal favourites are Czho-mythos games by Ben Croshaw. For freeware games, I think they have very good sense of atmosphere. Now Alpha Polaris belongs to different horror sub-genre, but there are some atmospheric things we have strived to include.

Wow, those are pretty sweet pictures, walsh. Looking at them closely, they might have been painted over photographs, which could be a good and time saving technique in AGs too. Our pics are not based in any real persons.

Will there be a way to turn off the dialog stills in the finished game? In the Demo they are too big and seem to interrupt the flow of the game?

Well, I'm sorry, no. This was our design decision right from the beginning.

Thanks for responding. Where you originally not going to have the game voiced? Is that why?

Yes, you right. But we do think they add a lot to the characters and conversations.

I liked the demo. Very intriguing. Gameplay seems to be smooth and easy, very convenient and not clunky or awkward. I could tell that much love and care went into it, and that's the most important thing. Definitely on my wish list.
