I don't think Black Mirror II had an official US release until this year, when it was released at the same time as Black Mirror III. There is also a package of both Black Mirror II and Black Mirror III together called "Black Mirror: Reflections from the Darkness Collection."
The original Black Mirror wasn't intended to have a sequel. Black Mirror III came out less than two years after Black Mirror II, and the games were released at the same time in the US. So unless you bought an import version or download version of Black Mirror II, you haven't played it.
You don't need to play Black Mirror in order to understand what's going on in Black Mirror II. The game had a sort of recap during the intro, and you learn more about Black Mirror along with the character you play.

A lot of folks complained about the style of game play, like not being to interact with an object until you knew just how it could be used - but, I enjoyed that aspect.
IIRC there was one time driven sequence, no matter what you did if the right amount of time hadn't passed, you couldn't progress. It was just a minor annoyance, overall it was a good game.

I would actually put it in reverse - you do not need to play II and III to play I, which in my opinion was the best of the series. I enjoyed all three on their own merits.

I'm still going to play the third as I've been told that it does 'conclude' the story and reveals all about the family history/curse which was the premise of the other two games.
Currently playing: Dragon Age Origins, Darkness Within 2, The Witcher, Fallout 3

The Games:
Black Mirror I Black Mirror II Black Mirror III
The Variable:
Child of Dunwich
His Stance:
BM I + BM II > BM III
BM II > BM I + BM III
But BM III = NO! (unless BM I + BM II played all the way through)
But, unless AT LEAST BM II played, THEN BM III BECAUSE end of BM II segways INTO BM III. But it DOESN'T matter BECAUSE there are NO answers.

Play Alter Ego - you're opinion will change. Having said that, I did enjoy Alter Ego, but I do understand it's not going to be everyones cup of tea.

LOL Just don't play BM3 without playing BM2.
BM1 is optional because BM2 has some introductory explanation of the story at the beginning of the game. But BM3 just plonks you down in the middle of things, so you need to have played BM2. Playing only BM1 before BM3 wouldn't work either. BM1 happened 12 years in the past, and can be enjoyed on its own. BM3 is really just BM2 part 2.
