Anyway, Dona, since you recommended me this game, and I was impressed by The Lost Crown, naturally, I want to play it too. I have downloaded the demo, only played for a few minutes, and I noticed a big problem. Resolution. My monitor is around 21 inches, and the recommended resolution is 1680 by 1050 (I think). But the game runs in 640 by something max... Making it just a small window on my screen. Is there something I can do? Is there a high resolution pack?

Wow, this is like the 5th Jonathan Boakes related thread! Not to mention three (3!) separate topics dedicated to The Lost Crown.

*SIGH*. If it weren't for so much disappointment lately (with recent purchases of mine, not generally with the genre), I would probably give one of his games a chance, despite the bad word I got about [s]TLS[/s]* TLC (The Lost Crown) and my indifference to horror games these days.

*Lol, was thinking of something else while I wrote this. You might be right about trying out the demos first, but there are two problems:

A. It's not always indicative, and it *has* happened before that I enjoyed a demo, which prompted me to buy the full game, which I did not like.

B. Say I download and play a demo. I play all the way to the end of it. Then I decide to buy the full game. I have to re-play the entire segment, again! This is particularly bad with long demos. Not to mention demos that take place somewhere in the middle of the game, which I really don't care for.

Well, you should have played the demo before buying the game.
I played The Lost Crown, and TLS... What is that? Dark fall 3? So, I should play Dark Fall one? Is it worth is?

It's an old game, I doubt you can do much about it. Widescreen monitors were rare/didn't exist back then.

To be honest I didn't play DarkFall games yet and now I'm not sure if I'll be able to (I have a large monitor, too :/)

What  happens if you change your desktop resolution to the lowest possible? Even if it is 800x600 that will be a huge improvement.

yes, change your screen resolution to something closer to the orignal, say 1280 or 1024 to start with. On a big screen like yours older low res games often look better if you don't fill the whole screen since the pxels are too prominent.

I remember reading somewhere that they re-released DF:The Journal with updated graphics several years after the original release. I don't know if the demo you played reflects the new release or not but (if the game is of interest) you might want to check it out.

EDIT: This is where I saw it:

I don't know if The Journal was remastered. The British Horror Pack seems to have the Lights Out remastered edition and the "Classic Edition" of The Journal.

I have the original and it's fine - just realize it's a 2000's indie game without the hollywood polish, which is a relief! Very nice game,  most/many/the ones that count, AGer's will agree.

I don't recall having had to adjust the res and i play on a 24" WS. So besides adjusting screen res in windows Settings also check your monitor sizing options menu, perhaps it's not on default which would probably play it max'ed out to fit the screen.

Actually, I can play it in full (fool?!) screen, if I force it so. But it will still run in 640 by something. It's not that old of a game, they could've made higher resolutions, at least 1024. Also, something might be wrong with the game. In the tunnel, where I start, there is no train. But, I watched the walkthrough, and there was an old train there.

Ummm... No. The game came out in 2002, and back then only the adventure games with largest budgets offered 1024x768 resolution. The chances of a one-man-show like Dark Fall offering any resolution higher than 640x480 were nil.

Also, something might be wrong with the game. In the tunnel, where I start, there is no train. But, I watched the walkthrough, and there was an old train there.

If you're talking about this

I don't see a train except in the introductory video.
Maybe there's one in the dark, but I can't make it out.

Persevere low res and all. The thing is you want the image size to be large enough, so just adjust your screen res to taste.

Yes, my game is exactly like that, and, no, I didn't mean the intro. There is a train in the tunnel, where you hear that boy's voice. I'll try and find that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gh3FUk5RbE&feature=related

I don't know why it would be missing, unless the graphics are just too dark to see it on some monitors.
It's not a 3D game, so it wouldn't be due to anything like a disappearing characters problem.

The thing is, it appears on some walk through, and on some it does not. Also, the main menu is different. I don't know whether that my game is missing something, or did he edit that one.

There different editions of the game may be slightly different.
The first edition was self-published by Jonathan Boakes -- and came on CDR in a DVD case.
Then there was the version from Dreamcatcher in 2003.
Then there was the "Pins and Needles" limited edition from 2009, that included both "
ark Fall: The Journal Classic" and "Lights Out: Director's Cut." A description included in the case said
Dark Fall: Classic Edition has seen a few tweaks, to update the gameplay and add some extra ambiance to certain scenes.
And then there are all the download versions.

So it's possible the main menu is different on some of them.
And maybe the screen with the train is not there in some versions.

Oh, I didn't know that. than it's alright. This is probably the updated version, so there's nothing wrong with mines. Thanks, mate.
