So, I know there are more important things than comparing yourself to other people's performance, but I was thinking it would be nice to have a thread where we compare the number of times where we referred to a walkthrough/hint guide (e.g. UHS). It is important to note whether the help was from a full fledged walkthrough or a hint file, as there is a difference. Also please include instances where a game's online hint/solution system was used.

So I'll commence with a few recent, quite challenging (in my opinion) games:

Yoomurjak's Ring  - a total of 3 times:
Spoiler Alert
1. First with the coat of arms puzzle. I was SO close, and just a couple of details were wrong.
2. The second was the first of the Abray books puzzles. Ironic since it was one of the easiest. I got confused with the names on the tombstones...OK that's an excuse. [=
3. The third time I used help was for the fourth book puzzle, the one involving the typewriter. I clicked my way to hell on that damned piano
).

One other puzzle (Spoiler Alertthe maze) I accomplished with trial and error instead of utilizing the logic behind it (which I missed, of course). Oh and Spoiler Alert I didn't manage to solve the keypad code on my own. Had to fail like a dozen times before Jonathan was kind enough to reveal the answer.

The Neverhood - a total of 3 times:
Spoiler Alert
1.First was the musical puzzle. Again, I was very close but didn't know how many times I needed to fill the highest pitch one with water.
2. Second was the mouse maze, but it was only a hint: "follow your nose". I can't believe I didn't realize this myself. 3. Third and last was the annoying symbols puzzle. I had the solution, but didn't catch on to the duplicate symbol rule. Oops, guess that's a big chunk of the puzzle  :
.
-Oh and there was another one for the reverse potion to become normal size again. But I wouldn't call that a puzzle - all you have to do is see the tubes in the mountains when taking the ride).

Dracula: Origin

A total of...one time! The game had imho medium to hard puzzles all in all, but since it wasn't obscure of the purpose, in fact very clear, almost too clear (which gave it the feeling of a series of puzzles instead of plot driven game), it wasn't hard to figure out what needs to be done. Oh and I did use the space bar throughout...my eyes!

Spoiler AlertThe Hieroglyphs. Simply unfair imo.

Goblins Quest 3 - Sheesh, what a game! Very hard, but I only had to use the online solution system (the Jokers) twice in total. Mind you these are not hints as most people refer to them, they're flat out solutions:

Spoiler Alert1. On the second level, I did everything on my own except give one of the guards the coin, thereby distracting and clubbing him, which was the prerequisite for all the remaining puzzles on this level. Pretty silly if you ask me, especially since I had the notion that I've already tried it a million times. But that's Goblins to you
.

2. The entire level inside the sword's pommel\knob was agonizing for me, and all because I neglected to smash the musicians' instrument. In retrospect it makes sense, don't know why I had trouble with it  :
 [smiley=hair_pull.gif]).

So you could say I messed up with this entire level. But since there's a total of 19 levels in Goblins Quest 3, spoiling only two is not too bad.
And thinking back on it, these were much easier compared to later levels.

Myst series: 1 use of in game hint system
Spoiler AlertIn Myst 4, I used it to solve the sound based monkey puzzle (used the final hint level, which basically tells you what to do)

Schizm 1: 0 uses of walkthrough or hint system.
(It did take me an entire summer to finish though)

King's quest 3: 1 use of a walktrhough
Spoiler AlertBut it was for the entire game
Had the game window and the walktrhough window side by side the entire time

Yeah, I tried King's Quest 3 once, and after getting smacked down one too many times, I stopped out of frustration. I decided that if I ever played it again that's exactly what I'd do. It goes against my way of playing adventure games completely, but then again the game is insanely unfair.

The Whispered World. Believe it or not, I resorted to a solution guide (euphemism for walk-through, couldn't find any UHS hints) one time only, and ironically for a puzzle that's quite easy aand purely logical compared to the other ones:

Spoiler AlertNear the end in the astrolab, where you need to arrange the stones representing the planets in the correct order.  :

Dunno what came over me, it was very stupid spoiling my 'no spoilers' status for this one easy puzzle...
