I have a game in my head that is primarily text based and REALLY want to use inform7 as the code. Mostly because I don't want the learning curve of HTML and PHP.
My big question is can you insert jpegs into the story? Say for instance a visual puzzle, an illustration of a key antagonist or a glorified game over jpeg.
I downloaded inform7, glimmr and Gluluxe.
Im afraid i am going to have to give url's in text descriptions in order to 'show' these pics. Pretty lame if that is the case.
Any tips? Sorry if the answer is obvious, i just discovered inform yesterday.

there is a way
The pictures then need to be put in a special place where Inform can reach them. Suppose the Inform project is called Example.inform. Then we need to create a folder alongside it called "Example Materials", and create a further folder inside that called "Figures". The actual images go inside "Figures". So we might then have files like so:

Example.inform
Example Materials
   Figures
       Woodlands.png
       Blackberry.jpg
       Red Admiral Butterfly.png

Inside Inform, the source text for a project always tries to avoid talking about filenames - we need a better way to refer to the individual figures.

We do this by declaring each figure with a sentence like the following examples:

Figure of Woodlands is the file "Woodlands.png".
Figure 2 is the file "Red Admiral Butterfly.png".

display (figure name)This phrase causes the figure to be displayed in the centre of the screen visible to the player. If the option "one time only" is used, it will have no effect if the figure has been displayed before. Example:

display the Figure of Woodlands;

Hope this helps!

btw only works on glulx so switch your release format from z machine to gblorb.
