I have an early 5-cd version of Schizm. I just fired it back up but had forgotten just how much disk swapping was involved. Does any one know if it can be full installed by hand, and if there is a no cd patch to get around the copy protection?

EDIT
@ Trav - thanks for suggesting combining CD's into one iso image. This is how I did it:

Copy contents off all CD's into a temp folder.
Overwrite anything when prompted.
Make iso image [I found Free ISO Creator worked quite well and will make up to a 9gb iso - new weapon in arsenal].
Mount iso and do a minimum install.
Then play with iso mounted [same virtual drive letter as installed from]

There is an ini file that you can edit if you choose to mount to a new drive letter tho.

Hmm I recall doing something like that with Gabe Knight 2 and another older game.  I'm thinking you're going to have to go virtual CD player though, for which you need special software.  I think you can make one image out of all 5 discs, but before I say more ( I'm slightly fuzzy on how to do the latter)  let's see if someone more up to scratch will help you out.  For the copy-protection, googling "no-CD patch Schizm" should do the trick.

Thanks Trav - actually I just re-installed it to see if there is a FULL option, which there is. But it still asks for a disk to play - my hope is that it will only ever ask for CD1, so that I only need to make an iso of that disk. btw I use MagicCD for images which is very simple to use. I've also edited the cd drive letter in Schizm.ini to point to the virtual drive.

Cool, well- there you go.
Most of these virtual players are easy to use, but some of them can be quite intrusive on your system; - I recall uninstalling most of mine for this reason.

Anyway - yes, what I was trying to say, is that I managed to make a single image out of all 5 discs, actually, and didn't have to switch on the virtual, which would be as much of a pain as with the actual, innit?

Interesting - I'll have to play around with that - always nice when you don't need to duplicate data. But right now I'm running into a few crashes and need to sort that out first...

..and re the no-cd I haven't tracked one down yet, at least not at any of the usual places. Finding those patches is one of the first things I do when I buy a new game lol..

Hmm, since these patches can also be used for piracy purposes, it would probably be frowned upon to post a direct link to such a patch, but if I do find out about one, I'll PM you, ok?

According to the information I'm finding, Schizm has no protection as such.  It might have particular requirements about detecting a given disc, but as I have the DVD version I can't really test myself: the DVD version assumes you'll be running from the discs.

You might need to use a consolidated DVD with a particular disc label, say, or change some Windows registry value or something of the sort.
You can't kill someone in a studio.

Interestingly, I also have the Schizm 5 disc version, but have never gotten around to installing and playing it.

I played for a few hours of it when it came out but wandered away. I've heard the DVD version is better so I may try to track down a copy.

Yes the DVD version is better, less bugs. That is one tough game tho, has some nice areas..but it is a hard one for sure.

Hmmm... so far as i can tell the game still asks for discrete discs [1-5] even with full install. Annoying - hope I can find a no cd patch. Also, I haven't found live links to any game patches that were released. I did find a torrent with 3 patches but my version of Schizm doesn't seem to recognize them - I have build 744.
