I am trying to complete the classic game Omikiron and made it a bit more than half way thru but have hit a very badly designed area and need help if anyone has managed to make it past this point....

it is in the factory where you have to place 8 bombs and then run across a train track to a final area. It is a timed run and no saves possible other than temp save points so you have to play the long fight sequence over and over to try to complete it and so far after four days I have not made it ..

.the train track you drop down to is supposed to have two hiding places or you get run over by the train. But...they are just not there....at least I have not found them. Anyone who has completed this section can you help out? thanks for this, it is a remarkable game...and deserves a look but....and i am hesitant to recommend it totally yet due this potentially fatal flaw in game play I have encountered. thanks for any help on this. So far, I have found you can not get past a gate in one direction, in the other direction there is an open area but you cant get into it over the threshold due to some invisible barrier....and trying only gets you squished.

this is NOT the section of track i need to get across, this is earlier in the run and gun sequence....but it is the same type of train and track that I am trying to get past.

There are only two walkthroughs I have been able to find and one of them happily describes the two hiding places but they are just not there....  and the other walkthrough has no detail on this area at all..so I suspect the writer had not done it. It is dangerous for such a major game to have such a serious problem in it...but hopefully there is a answer to this. Help much appreciated.

Hi Cris -

It's been many years since I played Omikron (one of my all-time favorite games in any genre). So I can not recall the exact details of the Tetra Sabotage mission. However, I did find an old walkthrough in my PC game archives with the following passage that might possibly help.

Stand against the wall from which the train enters and run across the tracks as soon as the train passes. Go to the control console and press Action to open a door back in the initial room. Return the way you came and go back through the door. Run across the catwalk to the newly opened door. Pass through, briefly exiting Shooting Mode, and go through the next door. An auto-save station awaits.

Cheers, Terry

P.S.

If you want the full walkthrough, I would be happy to e-mail it to you. Just let me know via a PM.

Good question, Cultura.

Omikron wouldn't run at all on my last two Windows systems.

But this brand new PC has Win7 x64 and just maybe...

Also wouldn't mind getting a DRM-free, downloadable GOG.com version of the game if they ever release one.

Cheers, Terry

I haven't played the game but I do have the Prima Guide with color pictures. Unfortunately I can't find anything about a train station. Could it be called something else? What Chapter is it in? If I can find something about the area you're in I could scan the relevant part of the guide.

Thanks Jenny and everyone this is ecouraging for I would really like to finish the game...it is a classic indeed, I am playing on XP with a patch that i developed using some existing older patches and aides... that allows it to run fine on XP SP 3 Pro.... the patch is on my archive the link is in my sig:

thanks Terry I will send my e mail to you PM

here is the section Jenny:

It is Part Seven Titled Betrayal, and is the Mission is called Tetra Sabotage,

here is the one detailed walkthrough description I have found:

Tetra Sabotage

No time to rest; a new mission has arisen. You are to infiltrate the Tetra Trust's factory and sabotage the production facilities for a new generation of Mecaguard, the Z-Tech 4000.

there is a sequence of fighting and placing bombs...after most of that you ride a pulley across a toxic pit, see pic above...then....

Go down the steps to a T-intersection. Go right and upstairs to a catwalk with three rooms: two contain control panels and one has a console that starts the conveyer belt. Doing this clears the way to the next part of the sequence. Go back to the T-intersection; go straight across and right. Press forward until you see a door on the right. Plant another bomb. Emerge from the control room and climb the stairs across the room. One of these rooms leads to the next section; the others have control panels just begging for bombs. Approach a pedestal with a wheel crank. Rotate it to swing the walkway over to you. Jump over the small gap to get to the central hub. Turn the wheel once to swing the walkway to the door. You may also rotate it once more to access a hidden cache containing a Medium Medikit and Decagun Ammo. Pass through the door. Stand against the wall, wait for the train to pass, and dart across the tracks. Climb the stairs on the other side of the tracks and enter the green-illuminated tunnel. When you come to a grating in the floor, press Action to slide it aside. Below you is a train tunnel into which you will soon drop, but not yet! Wait for the train to pass and run across the tracks to an alcove with a Small Medikit.

Turn around and wait for the next train to pass. When it does, dart left and across the tracks to another alcove with a door. Pass through the door. Remember, if you're struggling to find the alcove, run back to the one you just left or you'll be wheel grease. Enter a large control room with three rooms branching off and a large lift in the middle. Each room contains a control console and a scary-looking Mecaguard. The lift must be activated by pressing buttons in all three rooms. Unfortunately, pressing these switches also releases the trio of Z-Techs. Push the switches and make a beeline for the lift. Ride it to the top and your mission is complete. Walk down the passage and meet with Jenna. Unfortunately, the celebration is short-lived, as the authorities descend upon you both. You and Jenna are transferred to the prison facility at Pamoka.

the parts in red are the problem; i can drop thru the grating fine. But there is then a tunnel that is L shaped..the train comes from the left and goes to the right at about 30 second intervals. Supposedly there is an alcove down there with a med pack. but i see NO alcove across the tracks or anywhere in there. To the right there is a gate that does not open, to the left, a sharp bend and then a short stretch to an open platform area. That gate does open but you cant cross the threshold. I can press up against the wall in that first section of tunnel and the train will pass by, but it will squish you if you are on the open track.

so that is the section of the game and the Quest name....

  _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
 /   _________X______[] Closed Gate
/   /
I   I
I   I
I   I
___
___  Another Gate

Open Platform area

you drop at the Red X and the tunnel extends to the right and to the left and then turns sharply

I've uploaded a zip of some of the pages at

thank you so much Jenny, i will check it out

UPDATE: Ok that is the correct section, i see that one of the walkthroughs was just the text from the Prima Guide. That is a great guide. OK, i will try again..either my game has a damaged section in that area..or I just did not see the alcove in the picture....  but i will try and see if the guide will get me thru thanks again.

I am watching this thread with deep interest.  I was given this game several years ago but didn't get past the first five minutes.  Since then I've changed computers from W98 to XP.   I've heard lots of people praise this game so it's very interesting watching your progress Cris.

Ah that video brings back fond memories of playing one of the most amazing tri-genre games ever created.

Quantic Dream's Omikron is a hybrid RPG / action-adventure / shooter with a wonderfully detailed, real-time, 3D game world and an original story that felt so fresh back thern. The in-game musical elements with David Bowie and the Nomad-Soul character swapping were also highly inventive.

The main drawbacks of course were that save-point system instead of proper save-anywhere slots and several rather clunky FPS segments oddly wedged into an otherwise fluid third-person title.

Those fundamental design flaws aside, it was a terrific gaming experience back in 1999 when most CRPGs were based on the traditional D&
rules using the old 2D/3D isometric view and point/click format.

Perhaps even better was Tom Hall's Anachronox from 2001, which also combined various genres in a truly unique game. In addition to a varierty of gameplay elements like Omikron, it had a silky smooth full-party system and healthy sense of humor.

Cheers, Terry

Thanks Terry, you and Jenny and everyone are heros..you got me past the Slough of Despair and my play thru is back on track...across the tracks too...
we made it to the control room and the elevator and back up to the world.

thanks so much.

I agree with everything you say..including about Anachronox...Mr Hall did indeed do an amazing job and he still has the script locked away for Part 2
I am working on him to do something about it .....

i am at the final final battle of Anchronox too, and about to finish it ..what an amazing game both of these are..the big two pre modern graphic giants of gaming.

thanks again everyone! much much appreciated.

Caroline i urge you to try it..it is an amazing game as large in scope and vision as URU..tho totally different in style, they chose a unique art style instead of the almost photorealistic imagery of URU  but both are huge games with huge stories. Omikiron takes a bit more work re actual action and some of the sequences are tough ...but it IS doable... i am NOT the best gamer around or the brightest bulb on the tree re puzzles...but it is a great adventure.

some of the graphics are remarkable considering the age of the game...

here is a view of the journey to a high security prision in the frozen world that is Omikoron (all the city areas are under domes)...

and the prison Warden is great, very well done...

you change "souls" as you move from body to body in the game...here is me as a former establishment guard...

and using a Transmigration Spell, changing bodies to escape:

the initial game world area is amazing in design and immersion:

if only we had had a chance to go back in time and see Ae'gura when it was alive like this...

and the in game characters all talk and very lifelike in their styling even tho they too are created in the unique art style of the game...

and the detail lavished on just about every area is remarkable, hers is the city main security control room where you can actually watch routine operations of the main Security HQ....
