1) what other games can you think of that have docks in them
Easy, basically any game that has ships or boats. The Monkey Islands for instance. Zork Grand Inquisitor.. Leisure Suit Larry 7... Now can you think of a game that featured a ship that has a ship but no dock? Cruise for a corpse, Titanic: Adventure Out of Time..
2) what is the significants of the dock? what does it sybolise?
</silly question>
You got me there!

Churches... GK 2 had multiple churches. Also, GK 1, Broken Sword 1, Knight's Chase (action-adventure). 7th Guest, 11th Hour and Phantasmagoria each had a chapel - does that count?

The existence of a dock or pier, especially in adventure games, is psychologically significant (as opposed to being non-significant if it appears in an action game). But in order to ferret out the true or intended meaning, one has to delve rather deeply into the psyche of not only the main character, but at least the first three sub-characters with which the main character interacts, either consecutively or one right after the other. However, in contrast to the above supposition, according to Dr. A.J. Johnson's Guide to Symbology in Gaming, the appearance of a dock or pier is primarily because "there is a friggin' boat or body of water there and the developer thought a dock was appropriate to the environment". (Please note that Dr. Johnson's statement was not necessary derived from scientific study....)

Other games with train stations include The Last Express (not too surprising - lots of train stations there), Heart of China, Innocent Until Caught and probably a ton of others.

I think its symbology (consciously or unconsciously) can be linked to the japanese landscape architecture tradition. In those gardens, Japanese masters often try to symbolize docks or beaches that, on the coast (contour of the garden) or on an island (rocks and small islands in the small lake or the raked part of the garden) represent the possibility one could take in life. Taking off from the present situation or reaching a new one. It's a symbolic "wishing you well" for the future choices (quite appropriate for an adv. I think).
Personally, I only decided to have one in TT due to the necessity of having a pirate vessel among the attractions.
Until next sign...

Maybe it's some kind of professional deformation. I'm a programmer and in programming there is no place for symbolism and hidden meanings. Everything needs to be explicit. So I tend to take everything at face value (and express myself accordingly, which is not always appreciated).
Anyway I wanted you to know I liked what you wrote on adventure games evolution. That's all.
Darn, I forgot what I wrote. Let's see... do you mean what I said about style versus realism or about the use of text and its effect on interactivity? But thanks anyway

D*cks, I mean Docks: Jazz & Faust, Jack Orlando, Syberia. Feeble Files, Dark side of the Moon, Mission Critical, Rama (spaceship kind of docks), and all the others that you guys said...
D*cks, I mean Docks are just classic settings for all types of mystery or drama stories. Same with churches; some religion always appears in games.

There isn't (just a lakeshore). I think that was talking about a church (of which there are two in GK2).
I honestly don't think docks are necessarily a setting for anything. But if in the game you need to travel by ship, more often than not there's a dock. Same with train stations and airports.
