I had a quick sit-down with The Witcher 2 this evening, and it wasn't a very pleasant one, I'm sad to say.

I started a new game, and was asked if I wanted to go through the tutorial.  "Why not?" thought I.  The first thing that struck me is that the lighting indeed doesn't seem as good.  That may just be my expectations shaping reality, I admit, but what isn't imaginary is that when I got to the arena and was asked to lock on to the knight, nothing happened when I pressed the suggested key.  I tried probably around fifty times pressing Alt to lock onto the knight, with no result.  Finally I just mashed buttons until it moved on.

However, later I was asked to go to the character sheet to spend talents in the Trainiing tree.  I do this, exit the character panel, and nothing happens.  The suggesting to allocate my talents does not go away, I do not appear to be able to progress in the tutorial, and I can't even save to try again later without having to do the whole tedious thing over.

That really didn't go well...

The tutorial has always looked different from the main game and had poorer performance, at least on my computer. You aren't missing much by not playing it, to be honest.

I did the new side-quest on Iorveth's path, watched the ending etc and I just feel so disappointed. Act 3 used to have a sense of urgency and melancholy and overall, there was a sense that something serious was going down. Now they added heaps of unnecessary nudity, it looks all flashy and crap and the new content frankly sucks, at least on Iorveth's path. I am seriously considering re-installing the game with just the 1.3 patch and pretending EE never happened.

Also, a two-hour quest? 30 minutes, if you take your time.

I'm not sure that's even possible with the digital version, i downloaded the game from scratch on GOG.com and I immediately got the enhanced edition installed. Unless you have the original download files or the boxed version, I don't see how you can download the original game?

@JKing: The tutorial does have some performance issues, the problems i mentioned before vanished once i started the prologue.

I didn't have problems with key mapping and spending talents though. Maybe that's because I installed it from scratch?

I have retail version. Uninstalled my game, I don't know what else to say, I just feel very bitter about it all. Don't mind me.

Sadly, my game crashed due to interference by other apps I had going, and I felt a bit too deflated to go on at that stage, but for me, so far, the EE has been looking good.  I find the loading times are increased, but performance is fine, and the graphics are looking very good.

Sad to hear about other people's bad experiences though.

Huh?  I got myself a disc copy of TW 2, and it seems to work fine on top of my old TW 2 saves...

Will a Steam copy be compatible with old saves?

I still wonder what they've added to the game, i'm somewhat into chapter 1 but i haven't seen anything new as far as i can remember.

Could be me though, as i tend to forget the details of any story.

They added the chapter wrap up thingies, new character models, voice work, the new quests and things come later in chapter 3 I believe where there's a few hours of new things.

ah yes indeed, i'm not a big fan of the added cartoons though.

But it's still an amazing game, now i'm off on Iorveth's path

All versions are compatible. However, pre-EE saves seem to be buggy when loaded into EE. I just wiped my gamesaves folder and started anew.

And yes, they added new stuff to Act 3, plus they changed lighting/mood throughout the game. Mine has a ton of glitches tbh, guess it's not a CDPR patch unless it's broken. Plus some nVidia drivers seem to make it even worse. Sigh, waiting for a fix or three.

Hey Dona, just wanted to mention to you, that I probably won't be visiting this forum much in future. The new managment seem even more restrictive about what one is "allowed" to post than it was before the new managment took over, so.. the only reason I still peek in here now and then is because I met so many cool people here like yourself and a few others.

...but really, I could just as well, go chat with you people on whatever sites you hang out on.

It's quite sad, JA used to be my "home" when my browsers switched on, and it was the first place I visited every day.

Now I couldn't care a whit about it anymore.

PS, if any of you are on Skype, PM me if you're interested in adding me to your contacts list.

But have they actually enforced any of the new rules? As far as I can tell, we are allowed to post pretty much the same things that we used to post without getting warned.

They've been much stricter in general, and especially in Off-topic. We can't just make jokes generally, like we always used to, you get warnings for that, and [size= small]they'vepretty much narrowed their definition of what "politics" is, so yeah, basically you are now allowed to discuss nothing in depth.

If you discuss games or TV shows, films, games or books, you have to stick to the cast and acting, you cannot discuss content; (if the film/show has any political bias, you must steer clear from discussing the content, since, according to their new definition of what "politics", the latter is anything where anybody in any way has suggestions as to making the world a better place - and let's face it, almost all books, films or shows except the most frivolous do that to some extent, and contains some social commentary).

It just doesn't work for me. I hate having to feel I need to tiptoe on eggshells all the time. I can't talk about the latest books or films or TV shows anymore like i used to, so OT definitely is not worth it. You can go and look at a few recent threads in OT to see what I'm talking about.

Basically the only safe subjects left, is gardening and the mechanics of games and when their release dates will be.   Almost everything else is taboo.

[size= x-small]I'll probably still pop into the gaming threads from time to time to see what everyone is doing, but I really used to enjoy socializing on the JA OT.   All that has been killed now. Remember when the takeover took place and I said I'm scared this is going to happen?  A lot of people pooh-poohed what I said, and there it has happened after all..

Don't think they are that strict about it, haven't seen them even warn anyone or anything. There's certainly been those kinds of talks in off topic.

Personally seems rather pointless not to let people discuss things, as long as they are civil about it I see no harm in it. Off topic should (IMO) be a place to discuss anything.

Skimming through the off topic forum, I can only spot one place where the mods have stepped in, and that looks like something that would have resulted in a closed thread and a warning on the old forum as well.

Maybe I'm just being grouchy this week.  But they warned myself and Caroline the other day (about a month ago) in another topic where we were joking around, I don't even remember the topic anymore, or what we were kidding around about, just that we got pointed to the roolz, you know, that general post by the mod that says: "members are reminded of the TOS" and a link to the TOS.

Which is why I just generally stopped kidding around in OT, and unleashed my mischievousness here on "Other Games" for a bit instead.  But I guess that'll catch up to me sooner or later as well.

So I'll just stop kidding around with people around here altogether and go do it elsewhere rather.

, always enjoy your posts here Trav.

I don't think the mods were singling out anyone in particular. I 'm sure they understand when two users are just having friendly jabs at each other and aren't being serious about it.

The light humor in off topic is always welcome, makes the forum feel like a place were the community knows each other well , lot better then most other forums I visit.

I'm starting to get what Trav (may she rest in peace

) meant with TW2 being a lot darker and grittier, Chapter 3 is indeed eerie and almost akward.

Especially that scene Spoiler Alertwhere phillipa's eyes are gouged out was terrible, when i had to see it a second time (because i died the first time), i just turned off my screen and sound because i didn't want to experience that part again...

Please pardon me for interrupting this thread, but I've just noticed that while spoiler tags are effective in forum posts, they don't do anything in email notifications of forum posts in which messages are always reiterated.

In the one I received for markornikov's post, for example, the spoiler text visible, as are the spoiler tags on either side of it.

Further, if posts containing spoilers are quoted in replies, the same thing happens in the Reply window.

I'll see if anything can be done about this.

I shall get out of the way now. Please carry on.

I've finished it for the first time, chapter 3 was way shorter than expected, so i didn't expect it to finish it today.

I don't know if it was added in the enhanced edition but the extra scene added after the looooong credits, wasn't worth the wait i must say

Overall a good game, one day i'll try roche's path again

EE just added a new side-quest on each path (both initiated by blonde girls), so if you did them, congrats! You saw the EE content. There are a few additional cinematics, but they aren't too long. They mostly polished the graphics and added stuff here and there. Act 3 is still incredibly short.
