Congratulations, Markonikov!  I hope you enjoyed Witcher and will enjoy W2 as well. They're quite different.

Did you go neutral, orSpoiler Alert Order side or Elves side?

I seem to enjoy them both equally

Spoiler AlertI've chosen the elves side. I didn't even know you could go neutral

Does that choice have a big impact in TW2?

*peeks in* Hello! I seem to have scuttled away to The Witcher forums for a few months. TW2 is the only game I played since May, except for a Vampire Bloodlines run. TW2 owns my soul, siiiigh.

It may be too late, but, Traveller, the traps will not re-spawn. Once you pick them up that's it. However, I like to keep them for Melitele's Heart quest, they can help you a lot.

markornikov, about the TW1 choices,
Spoiler AlertRight now only armour and a few swords transfer and you get around 300 extra Orens. Some other choices get mentioned here and there, but they don't have a big impact on TW2. It's a bit disappointing because many big choices get ignored, but what can you do. Maybe they'll implement them later on :/

So, who's playing Dark Mode? It's fun and challenging, in my opinion. I'm doing DM on my 5th play-through, woohoo :3

phew that's a relief, because i wouldn't want to go through tw1 again because i might have made the wrong choices

The latest patch seems to have improved performance a lot (i gained 15fps), it now runs perfectly with everything maxed out. 8-)

I hardly used any bombs in the first game and now i'm constantly using them. Combat is much easier now so i can focus on using more bombs and traps while fighting enemies

Hi Dona, I wish you'd peeked in here again earlier, I was getting lonely with my replay.

Don't be too much of a stranger again, ok? I halted my replay somewhere in the Flotsam forest; ah I remember where and why -Spoiler Alert it's after I found the ghost in the sanitarium - last time i fed the 2 guys to the ghost, but this time I want to give them to Loredo.  I was going to give the ghost nekker hearts and eyes, but i heard that doesn't fool him, so i was going off to town to look for the pig's variety.

Then I gave the game a break to play Arcanum, and i must say i've been finding Arcanum pretty addictive so far.  I really enjoy that the game is so non-linear.

...but it doesn't have the more visceral excitement and eye-candy of Witcher 2, so i'll come back to W2 again soon- maybe tonight once I've studied a bit for my upcoming exams.

Once I've replayed the game completely, Spoiler Alerton Roche's path, I'll restart again somewhere at the end of act 1 to play different paths for smaller decisions; and then I'll test out Dark Mode...- tho keep in mind you're pretty much an expert by now, Dona.

Markonikov;  I'm currently also (supposedly)busy with a Witcher 1 replay where i'm trying to do the neutral path - Spoiler Alertor i might side Order this time, and do a 3rd replay on neutral side one day when i have the time.

Whether you chose order or Elves only impact in certain characters' attitude towards you in W2.  It doesn't close any doors for you either way, it doesn't seem.  Surprisingly, killing/saving Adda is mentioned pretty early in W2, but it doesn't have an effect on the game in any real sense.

Aw, sorry, Trav :C But I needed someone to really discuss the game with and people here didn't seem so interested. Had some epic fangirly times over there, but now I return to the world of other games!

About the ghost,
Spoiler AlertIt doesn't make a difference whether you give him pig or Nekker heart, he will see through you and you'll have to fight him anyway. He's not tough to kill, so don't worry.

Your plan sounds awesome
I once spent an afternoon just testing out different decisions. The most fun one was
Spoiler AlertFinding ways to piss Iorveth off after Archas fight and getting killed all the time

Other stuff that gets imported from TW1:
Spoiler Alert- Radovid will comment on Adda on Roche's path
- You can meet Siegfried on Roche's path if you sided with the Order
- You can talk about Yaevinn with Iorveth, but the conversation is the same no matter what you did in TW1

my god, all of the characters are so realistic and handsome

Bethesda should hire those developers, because frankly even the ones in Skyrim look a lot less attractive.

This is by far the prettiest game i've ever played 8-)

My thoughts exactly. Elder Scrolls characters look a lil' washed up.

I hate the maps! The world map is useless, I've got no idea where i am on that map because it lacks an indicator :

The local map is also pretty useless, it's too small and not detailed enough. I miss the maps of tw1.

But that's it, other than that i looooooooooooove this game

TW1 was good, but this one is much much better.

While I don't mind the maps of TW2 at all, TW 1 is still my favorite.
To me combat in W2 seriously sucks.  It's just the typical boring click-click clickety-click of a thousand other action RPG's, whereas W1 had much more interesting and involved combat.
I also don't like the story in W2, whereas W1 had a lot of interesting subplots.  Oh, well. The perfect RPG only appears once about every 10 years, and hardly ever in a sequel.

How far are you with the game, M?  For me the map does show both where I am and where my quest objective is.  (You are indicated by that little orange arrow thingie with a rounded bottom.  The arrow points in the direction you are facing.  I even have people important to my current quests names appear on the map when I mouse over their location on the map.

What do you mean by no "indicators" ?  You mean names of people's houses and so on? As I say, it does show some people, and at least it shows you where vendors and smiths are, as well as potential quest sources.
 (Green dots IIRC)

Oh, and you do know you can zoom in with the mouse scroll wheel, right?

Sure it's clear where you and your objectives are, but it's not obvious where exactly the roads are and i frequently got lost in flotsam forest in the beginning.

I meant map marker instead of indicator, sorry my bad english again

http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/115/1159783/the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings-20110405100748881.jpg

you always get this same map when you zoom out completely, but  for example there's no way to know where flotsam lies on that map :-?

but that's just a minor annoyance.

Combat works fine for me, now that it's dumbed down i can use bombs/traps/spells more often.

I guess i'm somewhere near the end of chapter I

Spoiler AlertI defeated the kingslayer and i'm looking for Triss now.

I've been reading through this thread and i fear i've chosen the wrong path :-/

Spoiler AlertI followed Roche, and indeed this path is quite boring

I'm wondering whether i should reload an older save or just move on hoping things will pick up again? :-?

I'll try to hurry up with my leisurely replay and let you know how the 2 paths compare.  Hope I won't be too late; I don't have time for gaming before perhaps by Wedenseday only...

I don't think you made a mistake. You need to play both paths to get the full story and, while the one you chose is a bit boring in my opinion, it still gives you some valuable information. The second replay puts many things into perspective.

That said, the 'boring' path really picks up in near the end of Ch2. I enjoyed it from then on. Also, it contains one of my favourite side-quests and has an unique boss battle you cannot experience any other way.

Ah, Dona took the pressure off of me.

Yes, I guess one would want to replay Chapter 2 (and the end of chapter 1) in any case, to see the other side.  I can't wait until I have more time to game..

And what's even more amazing is playing it again once you know the full story. Then you can really focus on small details and subtle ~foreshadowing~ and whatnot. The game seems to blow my mind each time I play it :B

One scene that I always seem to view differently is [CH1 beginning + small spoilers concerning Iorveth]
Spoiler AlertThe Flute scene where you meet Iorveth. First I was scared and intimidated, but now I think it's funny as hell. Especially when I learned more about him and realised that he likes to put on a show above all. Bickering between him and Geralt always makes me laugh (especially because Geralt is right XD).

I'm really primed to take notice ofSpoiler Alert especially Philippa in more detail from the start during the next 2 or three playthroughs.  Once I've finished my Roche playthrough, I'll be doing another Ioverth playthrough from the end of chapter 1 .

This will all depend on how busy Skyrim will be keeping me.  I'm hoping to finish at least the current playthrough before Skyrim breaks, and then I'll probably fit my 3rd playthrough in somewhere near the end of December, early Jan, as I said depending on Skyrim's charms.

Did anyone around here complete Melitele's heart?

Another question:  the trap that you can have made for the Kayran;  is it called the "Claw"? I managed to get the frame for it, and now i need to have it crafted.

EDIT nevermind, i found the answers:

The trap is specifically called kayran trap and can be bought Spoiler Alertafter a specific conversation with cedric.  You can also buy a troll's tongue from him, but it costs you!

Ah, Dona, there you are!  I actually happen to have done my last save with me and Sile on our way to face the Kayran and called it a night at that point in the game.  (Can't fight Kayrans when we're tired, can we?)

I'm findng dice poker a lot harder after the patches.  I feel quite sure it's not just my imagination too...  :-/

Want to hear something funny (i don't think it's a joke, but you might...)  Spoiler AlertAfter I bought the troll tongue for a fortune from Cedric,  I finally managed to beat that dwarf at poker so i could play Sendler.  ...so i asked for the troll head, and viola, now i have TWO troll tongues in my inventory...  :
Ok, so i talk to the witch and see i still need those arachas eyes.  So I trot back to Cedric, and pay ANOTHER fortune for these ingredients.   Ok, so now we can do the ritual; only, i'm not strong enough to kill all those ghosts.. - no matter how many potions and weapon buffs i use, they always manage to kill me...    [smiley=hair_pull.gif]   [smiley=hair_pull.gif]

[smiley=hair_pull.gif]
Aaarggh... so after paying a fortune and going to a bunch of trouble to get the ingredients, I still fail with that...  which is why i decided to dump it for now and carry on with the Kayran.  Maybe he'll be easier than the Spoiler Alertdamn wraiths...   >

I remember Dice Poker being really hard in 1.0. Hard and inconsistent - I'd lose from the weakest opponents, yet 'masters' (including the final one) would resign immediately. Er...

Trav, I... I think you're trying to do Melitele's Heart too early ._. The best time to do it is
Spoiler Alertright after the fight with Arachas. Iorveth will ask you to go with him, but if you tell him you have stuff to do you can simply find him later. THIS is the time to do Melitele, as you will probably have Arachas Eyes (my game bugged out and I had to buy them anyway, but they might have fixed that) and all the other ingredients and you'll be powerful enough to slay those wraiths.

Word of advice, don't draw your sword until Aneszka starts the ritual - just let Geralt do it automatically. If you draw it too early, the quest gets stuck in an endless loop and you won't be able to finish it. Happened to me once, ugh :C

Heheheh yep, well I had a similar experience with dice poker this time around (though not the first time).  The final guy in chapter 1 almost immediately resigned, and told me:  'Wow you're good!"

Re Melitele's Heart...- thanks for the advice.  What a pity I bought the ingredients inbetween doing other things;  I really don't feel like restoring an earlier save and redoing all of that just to get the money back I'd spent on the ingredients...

I will definitely keep your other advice in mind too. Spoiler Alert(Re not drawing too quickly- I had been drawing almost immediately, because the first time the whole thing had caught me unawares and the wraiths managed to smack me from behind .  Maybe this is why those darn things just kept coming and coming and spawning and spawing for me...

I tried to defeat the kayran when i was wide awake and failed horribly, then i tried it again at 6am after a long night of partying and drinking and beat him right away.

So those potions also work IRL

I decided to push forward with the chosen path and indeed it gets more interesting half-way chapter 2
