I didn't want this post to go unnoticed.  The post appeared on the GameSpot GameFAQs forum by XBlackWolfX.  It proves that exploring Fallout New Vegas reaps surprising rewards, one of which resides in the underwater Lake Mead Cave...

"When I swam into this place with my rebreather my breath almost stopped. In the 97 hours I put in Fallout 3, 183 locations I found and in the 28 hours and 89 locations I've found in New Vegas there was never one that just made me stop for a second and appreciate it and say, this is my favorite location. This cave did it for me. I didn't know Fallout could have so much beauty. I loved the lake but that cave was aglow with green seaweed and purple illuminescent bulbs and grass and turquoise water and rays of light shining down on your body as you wade through. There's not too much great stuff except for alot of first aid boxes but it's not the loot, it's the beauty and experience. Not since FFXIII have I been in such awe of the beauty a video game can produce. (FFXII and FFXIII being my favorite games of all time and Fallout 3, and NV coming very close now)"

Wow, Halcyon, is this in the vanilla NV, or with a mod?
Just this alone will motivate me to play a bit more of NV, starting today.

To me there is nothing more beautiful than underseascapes especially around reefs such as that of Mauritius, (where upon occasion I got sunburnt to a frazzle gawping at the beauty to be found undersea. )

No mod.  The entire underwater world of NV is beautiful, more so during the day with sunlight.

"
ead Money" coming to PC Feb. 22.  Three more expansions coming in the months ahead.

Woohoo!  Having a ball with all the great, new mods -- and discovering others for F03.

No you're not. I put in over 220 hours in just one play through. I typically explore the heck out of the land and talk to just about everybody when I play an RPG. If not for the consistent game crashes, this game would have been one of my all time favorite games . . . ever. Still, even with all the crashes, for me this game was a masterpiece.

Oh, and I saw that underwater cavern also. I was a tad perturbed that there weren't that much goodies down there but when I discovered that extra underwater tunnel, I was simply stunned by all the beauty.

NOTE: I too only played the vanilla version.

The only time I crash in FONV is when I install a mod. Otherwise, I have had no problems since the last patch.

There is another cavern I've discovered under Lake Mead, and by surfing the gamer images uploaded in the Nexus, there are apparently a bunch of areas I've missed.

I also just played a short mod, Part I, for FO3 called The Institute. Lots of promise.

Anyway, in NV, a good mod if you like hunting baddies is New Vegas Bounties.  A bigger one along the same lines is A World of Pain.  Good action and new locations.

Yo!

New plug in coming Tuesday!

Meanwhile, I'm on my 5th play through.  There are a number of wonderful mods that add quests, residences, challenges and more.

I'm still finding crazy and wonderful new characters and mini-quests that I've missed all the other times I played.  It really pays to walk around, rather than transporting.

Fallout New Vegas has a lot of Adventure sensibilities. You need to walk around and discover.  Surprising characters like The Forecaster you'd never find unless you were seriously exploring.

Just when I thought I'd played all the FONV action-packed mods, I discovered the Angel Park mod.  Holy quick-draw!  Along with the MoMod mod (new monsters), this mod, in a wonderful setting, is a suspenseful and intense hunting for all sorts of new baddies.  New weapons, too.

Bring a companion and plenty of ammo.  Lots to explore!  Just when you thought you finished a level or floor, there's yet another door.

Deleted UserGod, I'm so far behind everyone.
Just when I was starting to enjoy Oblivion, yup even with its clunky controls and such (just my opinion), my destiny took an abrupt change when FNV arrived in the mail.  I knew there were some bugs in the game based on reports when the game was initially released, but after I had installed the game from the disc I was informed that Steam had updates for the game.  Wow, nearly 271 MB. Good work Steam, all I had to do was watch the download as the patches and such were added to my game.

I've reached level four after just about seven hours of gameplay (much better than my performance with FO3 if I recall correctly) and I can already tell that I'm in for a ride....and I haven't even been to the source of all the great mods... 8-)

First i'm going to complete vanilla Vegas before I start adding mods.

Half of the map is still unexplored:  there's still a big gap North of Goodsprings and west and north of Nipton.

I completed the Legion branch of the main quest, i'm planning to take a more neutral approach with Yes Man.
Since i'm not going to reboot the whole game because i don't really like the first part up until New Vegas, some evil things i did will remain. Any quests related to Mr House, Goodsprings or Arcade Gannon won't be available.

I'm not planning on buying any DLC anytime soon, because there's plenty to do still

The only mod I have installed adds around 30 tracks or so to Mojave Music Radio.  I had all the track packs installed for GNR in FO3, so this is a must-have for me to keep me in the right mood.

Yes, there are some great music packs for FONV, one with over 200 songs.  Free, folks.

Mark, you're doing what I did--Until I realized that my character had no perspective and too many avenues were blocked.  So, I started over, deciding to be a goodie-goodie and work with the NCR and/or YesMan.  That was very satisfying.

Then I started over and decided to be evil.  I I found that it is difficult to be evil all the time, so I abandoned that and starting playing some mods.

There is a lot to explore, and it is all worth it, even without mods.  But there are some stunning visual mods that tweak your settings and greatly improve that wash of orange on everything.

Anyway, have fun, partner!

I played part of the NCR branch earlier this year, but I lost those savegames.
So I'll be goodie-goodie some other time

I agree that it's hard to be evil all the time, it's even harder to gain bad karma. Since most actions only yield a bad reputation with a certain faction, the best way to earn bad karma is by stealing things or hacking owned terminals.

In fallout i always turn off the radio, because it kills the creepy atmosphere while exploring the desolate wastelands

I love the creepy retro vibe.  I love knowing that what we're seeing is a 1950's version of what they think the end of the world would be.  The music is absolutely a creepy counterpoint, so I know what you mean.

Could you please provide a link for that?
I've only taken a cursory look at the nexus forums to see what is avaliable for FNV radio options.

I know what you mean with that aspect regarding the environment. I just turn down the music volume level a bit, just can't live without the tunes.

...so... is it a good idea to get Boone as a companion?  Can one "stash" your companions for later use like you could do in Fallout 3?

Boone is one of the best companions, as far as helping in combat goes.

He's extremely tough and can kill things quite well.

You can stash companions but only by sending them to one home you get (the only one, unless a mod has changed it) in a casino later on in the game.

If you decide to support the NRC or be neutral he is a good option.
Although i prefer a certain girl you'll meet soon after Novac, she's better in combat.

Spoiler Alert
Veronica Santangelo, she can be found at the 188 Trading Post.

Otherwise boone stays in Novac the whole game.

Veronica is a nearly indestructible (and entertaining) companion, especially if you upgrade her power fist.  Cass is tough as nails, too, with a really foul mouth I kind of like

Link to radio mods (one says 32,000 songs, if I'm reading that right):

I won't spoil it, but this Angel Park mod is HUGE.  You have to be one keen-eyed explorer to find the various places, then navigate through them (including a full-blown alien spaceship!!)  WOW.

Bring your most powerful weapons and companion. That's a start, anyway
