I got a perk that continually gave me the choice to make homosexual references to other characters.  Man, why not heterosexual references to some of those hot Follower femmes?   lol.

I finished the game last night.  I also began to get blue screens of death, telling about corrupted files. I tried to repair to no avail.  I am right now reformatting my computer. Argh!   I don't think it's Fallout related, but I sure can do without the extra stress.

Oh, yeah...I'm starting the game over in a few minutes

PS:  I did backup all my saves.

You can always pick Lady killer to get some options for other characters at least, though the only party member you can flirt with is Arcade Gannon, at least for males (at least from what I've seen).

The perks Lady Killer & Confirmed Bachelor are both quite useful in the game. There are a lot of places where they can substitute another skill, and some of the dialogues are quite funny.

I hope the computer problem does not persist. Make sure do to a disk check as soon as you can, to make sure that there is no physical damage on the disk.

Yeah, I think my hard drive is damaged, and it's only two years old.  I reformatted and received the same error report.  It is up and running right now, but sooner or later it will crash again, then I'll have to put in another hard drive and start over.  Grr.

I just finished the game. The Mr. House route was clearly not the "good" route, but it was interesting. I did feel bad about some of the thing I had to do though
Spoiler Alertlike killing the brotherhood of steels
And there was an inconsistency in the ending regarding them & one of your followers
Spoiler Alertnamely the fact that it talked about how the brotherhood was destroyed, and directly afterwards, when it talked about veronicas path, it talked about how she tried to change them & failed, and thus she was forced to leave the brotherhood.

Overall, apart from several major bugs, I liked the game. Not as good as Fallout 2, but better than Fallout 3.

The problems I have with the game technically are shared by many.  Recently, the tilde key stopped working for many.  I played through the game once and just started over again.

I chose Yes Man as my ending and was satisfied how things turned out, even though I died many times before getting it right.

I never played Fallout 3 without the expansions, but I thought F03 was quite a bit better --- more people, more diversity, more quest -- and your own house and collectibles that meant something.

Anyway, I like the West setting and how the companions interact.  And some of the visuals are stunning, as always.

I suspect that it has a lot to do with previous experienced with fallout. You never played through Fallout 1 & 2, right? New vegas feels like a sequel to Fallout 2 in many ways, where the events in fallout 2 directly impacted the story of new vegas, while fallout 3 feels like a side story with a few nods towards previous fallout games. Also New vegas has much of the same feel to it as Fallout 2, while fallout 3 lacked the "fallout feel", which probably made me like FO3 less than it deserved.

I've completed the Yes Man and NCR route endings, both left me satisfied with my choices...

I just could not side with Mr. House - he got a bit too snippety with me

So now I've spent 86 hours playing NV, discovered all the locations and have finished up my list of quests.  After spending a good hour setting up my unique weapons and collections for display in my rooms (lunchboxes, dinos, badges, trucks, Vault clothing, etc) and finding all the globes, I'm putting this character to bed for a little while.

Overall, it was a great experience: a fun and challenging game with lots of cool quests, areas and characters.  I'm looking forward to playing through again (in Hardcore mode) at some point in the future...

Playing: Skyrim: Dragonborn/Dawnguard; Torchlight 2; To The Moon; Far Cry 3

Finished: HomeFront; Far Cry 3; Dishonored

Always Playing: Half Life 2

Looking Forward To: BioShock: Infinite

Reading: BioShock: Rapture; SW: Revan

Congratulations!  I'd like to know two things:

-- Whether you went to a wiki walkthrough at all

-- Whether you got help from the console

Just asking.  I just both, from time to time, to save my a$$

-- Whether you got help from the console - I never used the console in NV...  Far Cry is the only game I've utilized the console, because the last level was IMPOSSIBLE.  I was tempted to use it in NV to see if there's a NOCLIP option - there were a few places in the game that were unreachable that I would like to have checked out.  Oh, I will admit that GODMODE was absolutely on my mind trying to get through the quarry when I was level 15.  I simply decided to wait until I was lvl 30 to get through it.

Just asking.  I just both, from time to time, to save my a$$

I found there to be more 'invisible walls' in NV than there were in F3.  Is it just me or did other folks think this as well?

Absolutely more invisible walls!  And even on Normal mode, I found many of the foes very challenging at low levels (0-10).  I'm playing through again and I'm at level 3 and getting my butt kicked

I love the console, but can't access it right now due to a bug.  I usually "cheat' myself to a powerful weapon that I keep in reserve "just in case."  But I never use god mode or any other cheat, except that ace in my holster.

I check wikis only if I die a lot.  Most of the quests in NV are pretty intuitive, if you give them time to sink in.

Yes, there is clip mode in NV, but I have not tried it.  As I said, right now the console is not available to me, so I'm in Novac, at last, ready to recruit Boone and kick into a higher gear.  Wish I could find more ammo tho.  This time around it seems to be missing.

Ah, is it 'fess up time, then?

I consider checking out forums absolutely essential to playing most of my RPG's.  Not only to get tips and hints on how to play the game better, but, you know.. (I'm so chatty)
So, yeah, I like the company.

Regarding walkthroughs, FAQ's and wiki's?  To get info on weapons, ammo armor, etc, why not?  Unless, there's something cool like a riddle that you need to figure out, like you had in Morrowind and Drakensang. Then it would spoil the fun, but I have often gotten "lost" (like trying to get in through the wrong gate, for instance, or going to the wrong river or mountains, etc.  and found that a walkthrough saved me an immense amount of time that would otherwise have left me wandering in the wilderness for days...

Regarding the console -- nadha. Nope.  That spoils the game, I have found. When I played Morrowind, I did it completely vanilla because I didn't have internet at the time, and maybe that is part of the reason why I love the game so much.

Once I discovered cheats and mods, upon a third playthough, I just found it made the game too "tame".  Ok, well, not aesthetic mods of course, but "cheating" with the console to give yourself cash or spells or armor or whatever.  The only exception to that would be cheating yourself faster.
I looove cheating myself faster, but not on a first playthrough, of course.   I hate slow character movement in games.

Ok, wrong thread for this though. It would be interesting to start a thread for this. ( Don't worry, I know for a fact that ohdannyboy is not interested in "other games"
 )

EDIT:  I started a thread for the above, so plz check it out if you're in the mood for spilling the beans.

Yes, there were quite a lot of them, which was a real shame, as it made taking shortcuts far harder.

I'm playing through from the beginning.  No console.  No wiki.  Only my knowledge from my first play-through, which is a short memory.  Having a ball.  Especially now that I have Veronica.  What a great companion.

Anyway, I'm purposefully making different choices in the quests I remember and, lo and behold, I'm getting more caps, more success, REALLY different results and happenings.  Like what?  Like Victor appears suddenly throughout my journey, like he's stalking me.  He has nothing to offer, just his presence.  freaky.

Much better this time around, even though I have to scrounge for everything I need to shoot, survive and elevate.  Loving it.

Wow, this playthrough is so very different!  I'm seeing and finding a lot of new things and places.  Amazing!  So much is hidden, apparently, in this game.

I solved my console command problem by unhooking my usb keyboard and swapping it for a conventional one.  All's well.

The new patch seems to have screwed up as much as it fixed--I have slow-down problems now instead of crashes, as well as other glitches.

Still, I have made different choices and I'm backing and different "winner," and it is really cool how different it is.  I love it more this time around than the first!

Oh, man, what an ending!  All the friends I made throughout the game came en force to aid me in the battle at Hoover Dam...in the sky, on the ground, amazing.

Now I'm back out wandering. There are more quests to discover in this game than I thought.  You just have to try to talk to everyone.

In this game, if you have high Speech and plenty of Caps, you can really succeed and get great gear.

I'm thinking of bailing out for a while to get some fresh air, greenery, and beauty in Oblivion.  I'm beginning to miss it.  Might just start from the beginning again.

My buddy is currently playing through NV and had a funny night of playing:

He lost 500 caps gambling, found out his 'girlfriend' was a lesbian, took too many steps towards Gloria Van Graff and was decapitated, was the "test subject" for Fisto, and was hit on by a leather-clad ghoul dude.

Ahhhh, New Vegas...

Oh man, when Fisto says "Assume the position," don't!!  hehe.  Lots of quirky fun.   Still a few minor bugs, but I'm still finding new things to do.

I shoot the robot YesMan, go into the Tops casino, come out, he's back. I shoot him again, go exploring, come back, he's alive again.

Veronica, my companion, asks:  "How many times do we have to reduce him to ash before it sticks?"

Now I'm on my third play through of Fallout New Vegas and I've found maybe the most powerful weapon in the game....a weapon that was not released but is accessible by the console....The Disintegrator. Wow what a gun!

New patch probably coming on Friday/today. This game is awesome.  This play through is revealing all sorts of new stuff.  Having a different companion helps too.  Can't wait for the quality mods!

I just starting playing with some New Vegas mods.  I've only gotten two, but they're good.

One is a Goodsprings home for the player. It's a run down down place with a basement in the Fallout tradition, but it's Home and it feels good.  It even comes with a mini-quest to find the key.  I think the mod is called Goodsprings Player Home.

The other mod is Fellout (note the e), one of the top-rated Fallout mods ever.  There's a New Vegas version. The mod brings the entire world to new life by eliminating the greenish wash and bringing out the natural colors of rock and sky.  With it, you can also get another file to add more green to grass, but I didn't get it.  I think you can also get a file that changes weather.

Here's Fellout for Fallout 3.

http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/mods/146/Fellout-The-Fallout-3-Weather-Overhaul

And Fellout NV for New Vegas

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888

The only problem with Fellout is that in interior settings often become waaaay too dark, so you'll have to stop and raise your brightness setting.(There is a mod to help with this, if you have the Friend of the Night perk.) This annoyance is worth the beauty this mod brings to the game.  I never used it in Fallout 3, but I'll try it along with all the trees and bushes I have there now.

Clearly, not many are involved in this terrific game.

I just want to say that I am not one of the few.......the few who post on the new vegas forums.....who have a lot of bug and problems with this game.

The patches have really fixed all my minor problems and I'm playing the game terrifically.

This is a wonderful game!  As with its former games, avoid the main quest if you can to play all the many, many fun side quests.  Lots of fun and wonderful sights.

The quests in the locations--and the casinos--are great... even if you check a walkthrough wiki first.  The walkthroughs so far do not tell you everything, but let you know only the intention of and goals of each quest.  Lots of fun.....especially if you didn't cheat-up skills and rise to the challenge of going with what you've got.

Fallout 3, IMO, had a richer main story line, but New Vegas has much more of a personal feeling of accomplishment at the ground level.

I'm on my 3rd play-through and discovering new things all the time.

I am posting this mostly for those who my have it and have given up.  Even the gore is controllable to a point, but, after all, it's only a game.

If you want screenshots, just ask.

Oh, the various companions you can choose are great!  Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and are always good company.

Deleted UserSeeing that Dead Money, the first DLC for the game is out, (XBOXers now other platforms soon) I'm going to rely on the assumption that in a year there is going to be a revised add-on pack inclusive GOTY edition which won't require any additional patches nor registration through an external source. That would get my order in.  I wouldn't be surprised if sales have taken a beating (more one star reviews than five star?) and the good folks at Bethesda are already working on a plan.
