Eh, map bigger? It seems a L OT smaller to me (especially since Vegas takes up a huge portion of it).

Right at your starting location you can walk north and over the hill see Vegas, just astones throw away south is Primm. Things seem a lot closer together withut a lot of space between them to me.

There's more things to find yea, but it doesn't seem as "big" in terms of space between them, like a lot of things packed in tightly on a smaller map.

Wrote a paper this morning and been relaxing with New Vegas for about an hour or so.  I went outside just now for a moment and, gee, everything (in RL) looked so green and colorful!

Since I hadn't had much time to play since I got the game, all I've done now was clear out the schoolhouse and almost got bitten, just stopped by at Jean on my way to Primm and getting distracted with all sorts of stuff.

In hardcore mode you need a doctor (or a doctors bag). If you stick to regular mode, then sleep, or stimpacks applied to the particular bodypart will also heal any crippling damage.

Ah, I see - I should have applied it to the specific parts.  Luckily I had saved not long before I got shot up, so reloaded a save and shot the landmines out of the way

I know that is a waste of a mine, but my explosives skill doesn't seem high enough (yet) to disarm them in time.

Anyway, now I'll know for next time, thanks Fnord!  I'll also know not to play in hardcore mode..

I remember in F3 being able to creep up to a landmine and disable it... not thinking to clearly about my explosive skill, I tried the same thing in NV and it blew up in my face!   [smiley=laughing.gif]

So now I run up to them, as they beep, then pause, then explode, and attempt to disarm them before they blow.  It's a timing thing, but it seems to work every time I've done it... I think my explosive skill is ~20 or so... maybe less (I'm at work so I can't check).

I just killed my first Deathclaw this morning, and it was a PAIN (and I'm lvl 21) until fortunately, and unexpectedly, a pack of of Bighorners rolled up and attacked the Deathclaw about half way through my battle.  They were able to get his health down to one bar (before he slaughtered all 5 of them) so I VATS'ed with my trusty Hunting Rifle and blew his head off... that'll teach him.

Cazadors are still jerks too, btw.

I've had luck shooting landmines of all types from a little distance.  I've been away for a couple of days so I'm still on level 16 and haven't seen a Deathclaw.

Some areas are blocked off until you get to a certain level. This world is much bigger and feels packed quests of all kinds. Why do people look for faults?  There's enough to do in the Strip to keep you busy for quite a while...if you're savvy enough to know how to get around and inside things

What I still haven't found...and keep going back to find....is that darn laser pistol in the bunker.......

Deathclaws are good at coming out of nowhere and getting the drop on me... I've been startled more than a handful of times by one of them swiping at me without my knowledge of them even being in the vicinity.

I'm looking forward to getting to the bunker, but I'm so caught up in exploring I've yet to have the desire to get back on the main quest track.

Man, I love this game.

I'm on the main quest???  I had no idea.  I can't identify the main quest at all.  I really want to put all that off until I explore more.  Think I'll hop off the main quest train and start walking......

I was given a quest by

Spoiler AlertMr. House directing me to go to the bunker

Unless I'm getting this mixed up with the Fort.  Might be two different things... which bunker are you in?

I like how the main quest and certain side quests sort of bleed in to one another...

Yes, that's it, he was in a refridgerator!  If the specific movie you were talking about, stars a certain mr Harrison Ford, that might explain why I missed the movie.  I already found Harrison Ford a pain when he was young - I couldn't face putting up with him with him in an older incarnation...

Apologies to all the Harrison Ford fans (my mother is one of them, btw.)

Listen, guys, there's some of my gear that I'd like to hold on to for later, (for instance flamer fuel); so I was wondering if it was safe to stash some of my goodies in a locker at Jean's place?

Btw, do those Nuka-cola trucks have any meaning? (-like that they are collector's items)?

Oh, and how the hell does one kill radscorpions?   I'm even trying dynamite now - my shotgun made no impact at all, still haven't tried my 9mil or my varmint rifle on them - died too quickly.. :'(

Hmmm- interesting the thing with Victor... - I managed to get away from a radscorpion with exactly 2 (two) yeah, better believe it - 2 hitpoints left...and up rolls Victor... -interesting!  <_<

You'll probably be OK.  I've heard (never experienced) folks in F3 losing their stuff as some areas 'refresh' at certain points and may delete your gear, but you should be cool.  Personally (unless it's cluttering up your INV) there's no negative impact to you to carry ammo, or anything with zero WG (weight) so you can carry all that with no effect to agility or speed.

Spoiler AlertYou do get your own place in New Vegas as well.

They're collector's items.  I also believe you can fire them in that gun that shoots 'junk', though I've never tried it.  I'm currently collecting the trucks, lunch boxes and dino statues

I'm lvl 22 and they're still a pain for me - and I have my Guns at 100, and some gun/VATS related perks.  They're always a pain so I'd avoid them until you're higher in lvl.

Ya, Victor has a knack for showing up like that.

Hope that helps a bit.

Ammunition boxes are "safe" containers, as they don't wipe out your gear or anything. Try to find a place with those until you get your own place (you can get a place in Novac before you get to New Vegas).

There's a little shack just northeast of that big Cross (which is just NE of Goodsprings, not hard to miss) that has one in it, and a bed, bench, etc. It's all cleared out too and you can sleep there with no penalty or karama hit or anything.

Also how can anyone hate Harrision Ford?
, he's the coolest in SW and Indiana Jones.

Thanks, guys, -that does help.  Sadly it was when I was going to investigate that very same shack NE of that Yangste memorial with the huge cross, that those radscorpions attacked me, and I ended up having to run for my life.  So now I'm scared to go there..  [smiley=shudder.gif]

I don't hate him at all, he just reminds me of an expressionless teddybear that overdosed on tranquilisers.    [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif] ...ok, perhaps he's cute for all that, but since I'm a chatty person, I also don't like the fact that I can hardly ever make out a word that he's mumbling.  :

Hope you don't hate me too much for that...    :-*

two question before I eventually try this game:

can we make a female character?

is this game played only through a 1st person perspective?
ive been looking into some videos and havent seen any 3rd perspective of our character so far..

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Yes you can make a female character

And you can play the game in 3rd person, although it was mainly designed with 1st person in mind.

Catching up...

I was at the Hidden Valley bunker.  My last save was in the Brotherhood safe house.

Now I'm going to do some random quests and explore a bit.

I had no trouble killing radscorpions with my shotgun.

3rd person is an awkward way to play and not a great view of the game, IMO.

Boone is a killing machine with a machete!

Third person is fine while you're just running and walking around, but I don't see how one can aim in 3rd person.  Unless you're going to be using your fists (unarmed) or a melee weapon like a sledgehammer, which won't be very effective against characters with guns, dynamite and flamethrowers.

Ines, do make very sure you like what you see on screenshots. The game is definitely not "pretty" and it is quite gory too.  For instance, when you use dynamite against people, you blow off their heads and limbs.  I just shot a coyote who was atrtacking me, with a normal gun, and it also blew him to pieces.

Personally I'm not quite used to this, it used to bother me a bit with Fallout 3 as well, which is why I need to take a break from the game every now and then.

...and yet...- there is also something addictive about FO3 and New Vegas; I haven't managed to put my finger on why this is so yet...

Btw, I've heard a lot being said that the game has bugs, but now that Stiler has helped me to fix up the mouse acceleration, I haven't noticed anything in the way of bugs, I must say...

It might be the glimmer of hope that is there. Yes, the world has been destroyed, everyone is fighting for survival in a harsh wasteland, crops will hardly grow and there is a constant famine. Yet you know that there is still hope for the world. All fallout games to date have offered you the chance to make the world a better place.

Btw, I've heard a lot being said that the game has bugs, but now that Stiler has helped me to fix up the mouse acceleration, I haven't noticed anything in the way of bugs, I must say...

I've had problems with inconsistent framerate. There are certain spots where the game will slow down to a crawl (like the bridge between the NCR camp & the town of Primm, the game simply crawls when I try to cross it). There seem to be some severe pathfinding issues as well (I have seen NPCs run the other way that they are supposed to several times, for no real reason), and the AI seem to be able to spot enemies several miles away, through mountains, from time to time.
Still, the game is fun, and the characters seem to be more well developed than they were in Fallout 3, which is a big plus.

Have you used the NPC FPS fix? If you get low fps near npc's often that's what it is, just use that.

My only complaint with NPCS is that the "passive" setting on the AI seems to be broke, because even on Passive, any companion you have will see an enelmy, then straight up attack it without it attacking them. Realy annoying roaming the desert to see one of them just spot a giant radscorpion, which you can't take on, and then they attack it instead of ignoring it and moving along.

I don't suffer any real slowdown near a lot of NPCs, but at some seemingly random spots out in the wilderness.

Oh, and this might be a good time to talk about what these games actually teaches us.

At first, last weekend, my companion was passive. He wouldn't attack anything unless I attacked it first.  Now, he just charges ahead and gets in the way and I can't control it.  He's a big help, but I'm thinking of firing him.  He could really screw up some of the quests I'm about to find.

The companion passive/aggressive seems not to be too intuitive.  If it says Passive, that means he is currently Aggressive, so clicking turns him to Passive.

I've been freezing and crashing tonight up in Kahn territory quest.  Frustrating.

Man, everywhere I go there is a quest upon a quest upon a quest.  Love it!!  This game is deep deep deep.  Can't wait for the patch to stop the crashes and slowdowns.

Right now, I happened into Jacobstown and some kind of Super Mutant quest.  It's a tough one, with invisible foes.

I'm loving the random feeling of this game, as I get more tuned into the main quest, which I'm trying to avoid
