Solves the problem of accidental discharge, something that happens for no apparent reason (very very rarely) when I equip a weapon from inventory. :-/

| Deleted User | So far the game has been smooth but I've had to stop and pause at the Helios One mainframe in the Solar Collection Tower before I set the power grid. It seems I haven't gathered all that much information regarding these decisions and their implications. Also not at all sure as to even why I would want to consider the optional choice... :-/

Spoiler AlertIf you've listened to the ncr and ignacio rivas, you should be able to choose the most suitable option. Unless you haven't decided yet which faction you want to do a favor. Ignore the optional choice unless you want to be really evil.

| Deleted User | Mostly undecided as to who or if regarding factions with the exception of the powder gangers. Number three seems safest from that standpoint. I suppose I could put if off until later as well.
Spoiler AlertPreferably I would not choose to be really evil, but that does not preclude me from acting on curiosity. Let's see.

(The nicer aspect of having fast-travel   I'm definitely going to be anti-legion, so from that POV, the optional is a no-no for me. (Although I'm still keeping my options open with both the NCR and the Brotherhood.) I currently still have good rep with everybody except the Powder Gangers. Not too sure how I blew that one, because I accepted a quest or 2 for them, but before I could get to do those quests, their people attacked me next to the road, I killed them, and am now hated by the whole gang. Oh well. Not too much skin off my nose.

There's a powder ganger in Goodsprings whose quests you've got to complete before you venture further into the wasteland, but it's a very evil thing you've got to do
...
The evil option at Helios One, also has a local side-effect that only happens after a few days in-game, i was quite surprised when it happened

That's the reward of doing something evil early-on. it triggers all sorts of events that pop up when you least expect it. Then if you deal with that with violence, you're in deeper doo-doo. Yeehaw!

| Deleted User | I doubt that I could become even more villified with the Powder Gangers but who knows, they turned on me first.
Initially I did feel a bit queasy about hiding my identity behind Powder Gang guard armor whereas I could then approach as a friendly and do the deed. Geez, was I surprised too see such acts of vile aggression rewarded with a boost of karma. Whatever. :

Yes, the environment is wonderful.  arn. It will have to wait until after work (I can't take off or "work from home" this week, too busy...grr.

I'm with you, fellow sufferer. I've been dying for some gaming. Bedtime rolled up before I could blink my eyes, so I quickly stole 5 minutes of Witcher 2.  Only 5 mins in NV would be a complete waste) ...but at least that's one good thing about Witcher 2 being comparatively linear, even 5 minutes a day brings you somewhere, even if it's just escaping from prison or finding an elf in the bushes...
Apologies for talking about W2 in the NV thread; I AM with you guys in NV in spirit.

| Deleted User | Oh crud. After finally venturing into the Strip and completing the first relevent quest on my list it appears that I've unexpectedly maxed out the level cap. No biggie, I've added a mod that increases the level cap to 100 without requiring a DLC purchase. 8-)
Speaking of the DLC's, should I try/play them in order? Any that should be avoided? I'm not in any real rush though as there is always a chance that Steam might offer up another sale.

The order you play them isn't really important, but there is one Fallout: New Vegas DLC you might want to avoid IF you don't like being forced to serve an evil quest giver or dislike high-pressure gameplay.
That's Dead Money, which requires you to work with three other trapped NPCs while wearing an explosive collar. The collars are set-off by radio signals and the map is riddled with the damn things, plus they can be frustratingly difficult to find in the darker, more cramped interiors. If you get too close to the signal sources and don't disable them in time, you die. So there's lots of saving / quick saving.
That said, the concept is pretty cool and the DLC really is immersive.
Cheers, Terry

Status : Offline | I agree with Terry on this one. Dead Money is dead serious gameplay -- I don't mean violent (although it is), I mean it is intense. Very.
It is also unique to my experience in its presentation and in its challenges.
Yes, you serve someone evil, but you yourself are not evil and do not have to do evil things (not any more than usual, that is
The other DLC's are relatively "normal" extensions of FNV. Dead Money is sort of like a nightmare your character might have.
But there is a rich storyline, great lore, and plenty of surprises -- including an ending that you might think you will never escape

The story line is good, though all talk and little action.
I'd give it a C. A weak final addition to this great game that gets better and better the more you play it and re-play it.

Obviously I want to continue NV but I've been thinking that a diversion of sorts from the main game might be favorable, not of course that it needs to be a vacation.

I've played NV for >100 hours, and there seems to be so much i haven't discovered yet. That's why i'm not getting any DLC yet

Perfectly understandable, but after watching the Dead Money trailer I came to realize that some different types of enemies might liven things up somewhat from the same old same old if you catch my drift.
