Well, Deep Red or Profondo Rosso didn't have a very good plot (like most Argento's movies) but the camera work was absolutely mind-blowing. It was definitely a break-through at the moment for suspense movies. I'm sure Argento inspired many others directors with this new style. The movie is really worth watching - I think it's Argento's best work after Suspiria.

do you think i should directly buy the dvd before watching it? (like i did with suspiria)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

I'm sure you're gonna love it - trust me on this one, this movie is a classic. Even if you don't like it (really unlikely), it's worth having it as it's a milestone in Argento's career.

Hey Petter, that "rezrov" word on the site name is a spell from Enchanter! Does the site have anything to do with it?
Also, is the movie "watchable" at work...? :

didn't you like sleepless? (non ho sonno?) well it wasn't suspiria but i liked it better than say tenebrae or stendal syndrome

Sleepless was fine. Better than Stendhal Syndrome, which I think is worst movie he ever directed. I found also Opera and Phantom of the opera very weak.
If you have a chance I'd suggest you to buy the"deep red" dvd US version: it seems that it has some sequences never seen in the european version.
About "The house with the windows that laugh": I know for sure that it has been released in DVD to celebrate its 20 years from the first release. I'll let you know if an english version is also available.

i am very eclectic (and that's eclectic not electric
- inside joke!) when buying dvds... but i'm going to trust you on this one!

In reply to your first question, I have no idea at all. You're going to have to find out for yourself.

In reply to your second question, well, that depends on where you work of course, but I don't think there will be any problems. There's no nudity or cursing or violence to humans if that's the issue. It's a real news report actually...

Same for me. Can't even conceive to buy cut versions. I made a little research on the web and found this

Deleted UserBTW: How much do they censor movies in your respective countries? Here in Sweden they used to censor a lot a couple of decades ago, recklessly damaging great movies (a good example is their editing of the brilliant train fighting scene in From Russia With Love, one of the best fighting scenes ever made) but nowadays they never censor anything, except some porno. I think the last scene that was cut out of a regular movie shown in cinemas in Sweden was the torturing scene in Casino where a guy's head is placed in a vise. It's a very gruelling scene if you've seen it. Still, anyone who wants to is entitled to go and see the uncut version at the censorship office.

thank god censorship is close to 0 here... if a film gets here cut, it's probably because the cut version was imported not because it got cut here (happened more in the past with vhs tapes, not that much anymore)... absolutely no censorship in music too - and we are watching the FULL cradle of filth videos here!
and nearly no censorship on tv... just a small sign indicating the rating of the film - the x-rated films play after 10pm

Here in Argentina we don't have too much censorship (thankfuly!) except maybe on the TV, specially cable, but dunno why. Some movies are cutted to death because of either violence or sex but sex mostly. I've seen entire scenes removed because of a girl showing a boob - pathetic

However on video there isn't any censorship at all
There're some really nasty movies you can rent - I've seen a copy of Cannibal Holocaust, a movie which has some strikingly real rape scenes, cannibalism (duh!) and animal mutilations. The last one is the reason why I havn't seen this movie yet - I can't stand animal killing whether is real or not.
I'm beginning to think that this movie wasn't prohibited because no-one knows about it - interesting, I wonder what would happen if someone starts complaining about it.
If I ever see it, I'll comment it here.

BTW Petter, I saw the video - sick

Deleted UserHehe, well they used a bit too much dynamite, didn't they?
Became painfully obvious when it started raining whale parts...

BTW: I've heard from a friend that went to America one year that you could rent videos of REAL executions, tortures and various other disgusting things. I think you had to be 24 to rent them, but they weren't hard to get a hold of. Fiction is one thing, but THAT's just SICK!

Yes, I think Belinda mentioned them: Faces Of Death. I'm 99% sure that I once heard some of the scenes were "snuff". Anyway, I could rent the 6 of them right now if I wanted. Even my brother could do it and he's 18.

Deleted UserWhew, that's very sick indeed. Why anyone would think it's a good idea to sell or rent out these videos is beyond me

On another topic, isn't it weird that Bruce Campbell (Ash in the Evil Dead movies) hasn't become a big movie star? He's a brilliant actor in comedy roles. A natural. Still, he's never been able to make it as a big name. If you look closely, you can discover him in the Spider Man movie. He's the announcer of the fighting game!
