OK, I want to know if you people are nuts as I am. These are the most weird and grotesque films I've ever seen - watch them with caution (on second thought, don't watch them at all!).

1. El Topo by Alejandro Jodorowsky

After a long time looking for this movie, I must say it lived up to my expectations. It was hailed as the first cult movie ever, showed only in very select cinemas after midnight. It's like two movies in one, the first half being very violent and the second half kinda meditative, both of them with some very disturbing imagery. No point in talking about the plot - it's like a mystical "spagetthi" western with alegories to many religions. I'm sure not even the writer can guess the meaning of this movie.
The weirdest I've seen, bar none.

2. Necromantik by a crazy German (can't remember his name)

Sex with dead people has to be the grossest thing and I have to be one sick puppy to have watched this. Actually, the plot was fairly original (in a wicked sense): a couple gets hold of a corpse, quite sexy if a bit decomposed, and they um... do that with it. In a totally surprising twist, the girl leaves the guy with her one true love... the corpse - I will not tell more about the plot or Val will delete my account

I remember my friends asking me to turn off the video when I invited them to watch this movie. Aaaah, such fond memories

3. Naked Lunch by David Cronenberg

A deranged director adapting a story from a deranged writer (William S. Burroughs). Plot? Don't even think about it - I don't even remember the plot, just the typewriters turning into cockroaches with speaking... err... you have to watch this movie!

4. Dead Alive by Peter Jackson

Hailed as the goriest film ever - no doubt about that! Just think of this: tens of zombies, one man, one lawnmower... can you imagine a guy forcing his way thru a load of zombies with his lawnmower? I couldn't until I watched this! The last minutes of this movie has to be the most bizarre ever. And this guy directed Lord Of The Rings??

5. Eraserhead by David Lynch

One of the few Lynch movies that actually made (some kinda?) sense was his first one. A man has a mutant son who starts ruining his life. If I remember correctly, he resembled a pigeon. Very surreal and strange. Features the classic tune In Heaven (Lady Of The Radiator Song) which was later interpreted by Pixies and other bands. In this particularily haunting scene, a small woman appears inside a radiator singing "In Heaven everything is fine...". Very sweet but it will leave you drooling.

Now, I wanna hear yours. Movies that traumatized you, movies you wouldn't want your mom to watch them, totally bizarre movies

first you have to visit This Site... there was also a site called splatter house which reviewed some extremely bizzare films but it exists no more (or if it does give me the new link)... i also got a site that sells bizzare and extreme underground dvds but i don't think i can post it

now about the top 5, that's something that needs a lot of thought, especially since there are so many movies of this kind that i've watched in the past i have to remember them all now :
a great one that comes to mind is Beyond The Darkness... i remember i rented it from a local video club because the cover was only a warning in big red letters not to be watched by children or ppl with heart problems! it wasn't scary, but it was very raw... from the ones i recently re-watched i could say Bad Taste (REALLY bad taste) and Hell Of The Living Dead (for the tongue scene alone!)

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

i also missed (my favorites are a mess) Horrordvds.com which has great reviews and a great and "bizzare" forum (where i'm a lurker) and also the site of THE MASTER Dario Argento

i'm into such films since i was 5 years old!
explains a lot about how i turned out to be

Deleted UserNice site aya!
hummmm good

Here's a top 5 for a recent period of mine:
1) The Kingdom ("er" on acid they say...I agree
)
2) Terror Vision (I almost know this one by heart
; the traduction makes it more cult than ever
)
3)  Killer Klowns from outher space (who would even think about doing a movie about that?!?)
4) Videodrome (Hail, Cronenberg...The movie seems to go somewhere, but where ?)
5)Polyester (the one and only odorama movie)

this is one i HAVE TO watch! about the others mentioned i might have seen some of them (i'm only certain about dead alive and videodrome) but i wouldn't recognize the titles since it's been years and they also came with unbelievable greek translations (talked about this before on another thread)... so i could have watch eg terror vision but actually know it as "killing ducks"

The great thing about Killer Klowns is that it is actually good. As opposed to "good".

"Begotten" was pretty sick. Starts off with a lonely God dismebowling himself, then an earth goddess who impregnates herself with his dying....well you get the idea. A son is born and then lots of scrumptious B&W footage with no dialouge follows that just is too much to describe.  Must be seen to be believed. Super twisted. The metaphysical slasher movie to end all metaphysical slasher movies. Will seriously mess with your mind.

"Sweetie". A german movie about a bunch of anarchist being all anarchist-like. Really rough in places.

"
ead Alive" by Peter Jackson, a masterpeice.

"Bloody Mama" with Shelly Winters as Ma Barker in which the Barker boys share a girlfriend, OD and get eaten by gators while Ma courts Pat Higgens with a bowie knife and then shoots every one with a machine gun.

And don't forget "Black Christmas", the original psychokiller masterpiece of all time with Kier Dullea and Olviia Hussey. Not gory but a seminal peice of work, one of the most influential films of it genre.
1974) Not that bizzare but must be mentioned. Also starring Andrea Martin, John Saxon, (always a good sign) Margot Kidder and directed by Bob Clark. This is the movie that invented the "the killer is calling from the house" line.

I think I'm going to go watch "The Sound of Music" now.

Deleted UserHmm, I would have suggested Eraserhead if you hadn't already mentioned it. The cool thing is that it's also considered a motion picture masterpiece, by some reviewers even as one of the best movies ever made. David Lynch is a genious, but his movies are really weird sometimes. Blue Velvet comes to mind... I'd go for a lot of these Peter Jackson horror movies too. Man, was I shocked when I first heard who was going to direct the LOTR trilogy.

I'd also like to add some films outside of the horror genre. What about Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, frequently named as the worst movie ever made? And if you think it's a bizarre movie in the first place, it's not half as bizarre as it gets after you've learned about the details of the production. Anyone who's seen Tim Burton's movie Ed Wood knows about it...

Another favourite of mine is Horror in the Midnight Sun, an ambitious sci-fi movie from 1959 featuring a half-American, half-Swedish cast and some unforgettable plotholes.

Another truly weird sci-fi movie with cult status is Little Shop of Horrors, where for instance a young Jack Nicholson appears in his second movie role ever as a guy who enjoys going to the dentist because of the pain.

I'm also a huge fan of Terence Hill and Bud Spencer, and have collected quite a few of their movies over the years. There are some that are truly weird, but I won't go into that.

Another actor who I love is Louis De Funes, who's made a lot of weird French comedies that always are fun to watch.

And why not add The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Tim Curry in drag, to the list?

It's bad, it's really bad (remember the cops turning over the tombstones?
) but I don't it's the worse. There are so many awfuly-bad, minimum-budget sci-fi flicks like it. Has anyone watched Manos : The Hands Of Fate? Also named as the worst film ever but much more than Plan 9 as far as I know.

Anyone who's seen Tim Burton's movie Ed Wood knows about it...

Poor guy... it's really sad. But the movie was great. It's true that he met Orson Welles??

Do you see the difference?

21 JAN 2003 at 6:23pm
Deleted UserHehe, Bad Taste is a cult classic. Even moreso now when Jackson has become incredibly famous. I've seen it a long time ago. Includes people drinking green vomit from a bowl if I remeber it correctly...

There's also the splatter-classics Braindead, starring Peter himself, and Meet the Feebles which I haven't seen yet.

A Jackson movie you should definately look up is Forgotten Silver. Doesn't fit in this cathegory, but it's really funny! It's a fake documentary.

Bruce Campbell was bound to come up in this thread sooner or later. The evil dead movies are cult classics as well. I vividly remember film three, where he fights a skeleton armies. Priceless! Give me some sugar baby...

peter you remember correctly about bad taste! there were even peas (or smth like that) in it! that was too much even for me
(i also loved Spencer-Hill... haven't seen a movie with them for years though)

the evil deads are definate classics... you should see the dvd packaging of ED1
imo 1 was the best... 2 was more on the comedy side and 3 had the skeleton armies

sir funk have you watched inferno? it's a part of the 3 Mothers trilogy... fantastic movie (altough Suspiria is THE best) marred only by its abrupt ending - but that's a weakness most argento movies i watched had... can't understand why such abrupt endings

rael why did you do this to me... now i have to find all these movies (and it's impossible to find them for rent here), especially Nekromantik

as for plan 9, i have that on vhs but never watched it whole!!!

please Patvs, can you mail me the urls? I was to late and I want to know how shocking these are. Thanx in advance.

Yes I've seen it in an Italian version with english subtitles.
I most definitly going to search for that trilogy. Thanks, needed that one, Aya

Deleted UserI saw Night of the Living Dead yesterday evening for the first time. It just aired on TV and I accidently tuned in right before it started. Isn't that the film that really started this whole horror genre.

It was very much worth viewing btw.

Meet The Feebles is gorgeous!!
Also known as "Muppets On Drugs" - the alternative title says everything! It's a very, very deranged movie.

Agreed. ED1 is one of my favs - more darkish and gorish. Killing demons by cutting them in pieces is real fun

sir funk have you watched inferno? it's a part of the 3 Mothers trilogy...

Inferno has no plot!
I don't mind movies without plots but this one was boooring. Without doubt, Suspiria is the best from Argento. BTW, the trilogy was never finished.

rael why did you do this to me... now i have to find all these movies (and it's impossible to find them for rent here), especially Nekromantik

It took me a while to find Necromantik but finally I did. It was on the back corner of a small, dark video. A rare find. Check this out: in one mind-blowing scene, the lover (the corpse) loses its... member and they replace it with... a pipe

yeah this is frustrating... thank god it doesn't happen to Europe, at least not even half as much as in the USA

True, but ED2 is the most bizarre of the 3.
Fighting your own hand. LMAO, really

Agreed to that! a classic scene!... have you seen Idle Hands btw? a whole movie inspired by that scene!

Yes I've seen it in an Italian version with english suptitles.
I most definitly going to search for that trilogy. Thanks, needed that one, Aya

@Rael too... the last part of the trilogy is Tenebrae, which is very different than the other too and seems like it has nothing to do with the trilogy (it's a gory whodunnit) but it is the 3rd mother (mother Tenebrarum (mother of darkness) as stated in Inferno)
