Status : Offline | Some time ago I ran So Blonde on my XP machine (with Norton antivirus) without any problems. After reading this thread, I decided to try the game on my new Win 7 machine (with McAfee). I got the same message and the install failed!
I did some checking and found there are several "Artemis...." trojans floating around the net. But none of them exactly match the file name that So Blonde is trying to install. Maybe McAfee is being overly cautious but I suspect they were just lazy and decided to block anything "Artemis". The longer I use McAfee, the more they piss me off!
EDIT: Did some more checking and found out McAfee has been blocking generic Artemis files for a couple of years now, regardless of all the complaints.
Anyway, did did some experimenting and found a way: Open McAfee. Click Configure. Click Computer & Files Turn off Virus Protection for awhile (half an hour should be plenty) Install Game.
I haven't tried the following but: This should work until you run a full system scan. Then McAfee will probably quarantine the file rendering the game useless. In that case you will have to get to the quarantine section, find the file and allow McAfee to use it. Let me know if this part works.
I don't buy download-only games. Never have, never will........Mike

Status : Online | I've given up trying to play So Blonde on Win 7. During the install Win 7 blocks "targes.dll" as a driver incompatible with Win 7. Googling this file name reveals that the file is part of the DRM.
On XP I achieved installation only by turning off my AV (then later instructing it to ignore the soblonde.exe file).
So this is a duff game for me. The XP machine was too low powered to cope with the game. The Win 7 machine is up to the task but the game is not compatible.
Once again DRM wrecks a viable game. :'(

Why don't you Google: So Blonde No-CD patch? I think I did that for this game (and have had to do it for a few others as well) and it usually works.
In fact the only game this has never worked for, for me, was Morrowind, when I lost my original disc. I had the very original version of the game installed, and those patches only worked on later versions of the game, so in the end I had to buy myself a new copy of the game. Later I also bought the GOTY version, so theoritically I'd bought that game 3 times over! Not all games would be worth that though, I don't think.

Much obliged, installed the tages update then "Lo and Behold" So Blonde installed without Win 7 interfering. Rebooted and no Win 7 winge about unstable driver. Game launched OK. I'm playing AoM Cards of Destiny and will move on to So Blonde whenI have that completed. http://justadventure.com/yabb/Templates/Forum/default/grin.gif

Status : Online | There is another problem with this game and Win 7. It had the annoying habit of failing to save. In fact it locked up on saving on three occasions. Progress being lost on each occasion. I queried this with dtp. They advised changing the installation from C:\\prog(x86)\anaconda\so blonde to C:\\so blonde i.e. main game directory at top level. This does work. No more saving fails. dtp explanation is that the game was developed before Win 7 was released, so it did not get checked with Win 7. I've suggested they put a stickied topic in their forum to advise Win 7 users of the problems. I'm on 64 bit Win 7, possibly 32 bit version could have the same problems.

It does - All versions of Windows 7 (as well as Vista) protect the Program Files/Data folders. Basically they can only be updated by the installer, or a program running in elevated mode.
Just get into the habit of always installing your games to your User Folders and you'll be just fine.
