Status : Offline | Next wonderful world in Anachronox is Hephestos, what a marvelous one it is..each one of these is differnt..... and there are lots of fun things to discover here...

the location construction and design continues to be a high level work of art and artistry, i am continueally amazed by the quality and beauty of even the most mundane locations, this is the workers flats...

by the way i have been doing more research on Anachronox and discovered it cost $7,000,000 to make..and it was intended to be the first of a series of three games...the scripts for all three are written but are locked up in the vaults of Eidos and Tom Hall has kept the rights to them too, so we along with many of the long time Eidos employees who LOVE this game ...we wait patiently for the next installments. The orignal development team stays in touch and you never say never in the game industry.
I also found out that you may have trouble playing it on XP SP3 esp if you have all the updates incluidng one that alters Nvida interface.. and have the highest NET versoin, which is 4, i found i had to backdate to NET 2 and get the earlier version of nHancer, which is 32_2.4.5 to get Anachronx to run..and i am using an older driver with a FX5500 card. I can run the game at highest resolution this way, you just have to set your desktop to 1280x960 and then you get a full screen and amazingly great gaphics, even better than any of the previous screenies i have posted. I plan to start over and play the entire game again on the highest level.

This shows some of the locations and worlds that were part of Anachronox or planned for the sequels, some of which were changed or evolved considerably in the final release of the first title. Enjoy, this is an mpg that will play on any normal viewer.

| Deleted User | Thanks CrisGer. It brought back a fondness of a game I really liked at the time. Overall, it was a great gaming experience but I think I'll keep it as a memory. You see, I'm a bit of a graphics junky and the older games just don't cut it for me. I do hope another sequel is made someday. Happy Gaming.

Other thank the blockyness of the figures, Anachronox keeps amazing me at the simply beautiful graphics tho, they lavished care and attention on that aspect...and if you run the game on High resolution, it is really remarkable..a work of art. I am glad you have had a chance to play it.
Dont judge the game ..if it has been a while by the trailer, that is far fer below the quality of the actual game.....as it was a beta that is filmed and the film itself is low rez. If you want a quick peek you can try the demo, that gives a nice feeling but does not include some of the most amazing graphic locations like the Utopian city world of Sunder, or the huge and intricate spaces of Democratis, or Sender or Anachronox itself.

I do agree that the quality of the trailer was poor and the in-game was much better. Happy Gaming.

And they used all the tricks in the book re the puzzles, and activities ...and added layer on layer of complexity in what you can do with your inventory and things you can collect and use in the game, and in additoin each party member has their own skills and things you can improve on.....
I am just scratching the surface in my first play through i can see that, and it goes on and on. I have not had this much fun since i first played URU, Gothic and or Oblvion.

| Deleted User | Hey CrisGer, I felt the same way when I played about 7-8 years ago. I recently played Batman: Arkham Asylum and had the same feelings again. I don't think it would be your cup of tea, but there is a short demo if you have not tried it yet. Happy Gaming.

if you played thru the game and never got to see this part of this amazing experince, PM me and i can tell you how to get in to see it . Due to a bug it was not accessible in the 1.0 version of the game even tho this level was entirely functional and prepared with full dialog for the NPCs and great text for the exploration.

Status : Offline | UPDATE on getting Ancrhonox to run on Modern systems....
the newest Nvida cards, 8000 and up have lost some of the support for the Glide that Anachronox uses...so not even the Nhancer fix works anymore. I found finally a work around...here is what you need to do:
install and patch with all the patches....or use existing game.
Open Nvida Control Panel that comes with each card and go to the 3D section
create a profile for Anachronox, it will not show up on the list of installed games or programs because it installs to C and the control panel only looks in Program files....once you have the Anox.exe created and on the list, set Extension Limit to "ON"

this fix is for Nvida cards onlyl, there is a fix for API cards but i dont have the details.
the problem with all these older opengl games that they use a static buffer when requesting gl extensions which is less then the driver wants to report. I found this fix when trying to get OpelGL to work with SiN and Wages of Sin. it works for Anachronox too. And i hear it also works for Quake and Hexen and some others...to get the high end graphics that are possible.

here is a pack of the best walkthroughs....

Plus Ion Storm who had the rights under Eidos so now Eidos has the rights...who knows what they would charge....might be part of it too. But it is a fantastic game and deserves to be right up there and out there with any and all genres and titles.

That is the exact reason why I wish GOG would get hold of it - the whole point of GOG is that they take old games and make them compatible to modern Operating Systems. Sadly though if Eidos has it... - that doesn't sound like good news... :-/
