give the graphics time. Explore a bit. BTW there is a closet in your office that it will be helpful to open. the lock pick process is pretty easy once you get used to it. you click on the numbers to see if that setting is good, if not, try up or down and the indicator will indicate if you are closer or farther away, hit the space key to try it each time..
the characters are blocky but the world itself is done very nicely with those limitations and the voice acting makes up for a lot.

All the patches
do officlal patch 1.1 and 1.2 first, then do the community patches that start with 44
just takes a sec and will make sure things run right.

Definitely worth persevering. I've just reached the fighting arena/place for some much needed practice and have set the game at 'easy' as I can't be bothered hunting down save spaces. (that's the reason I stopped with Nomad Soul, another game I was really interested in playing).
Currently playing: Dragon Age Origins, Dishonored, The Witcher, Fallout 3, Deponia

Nomad soul is wonderful, i can help you with saves and fixes if needed or a good walkthrough. Both Omikiron and Anachronox are two classics that lie on the other side of the graphics upgrade divide but the quality of both make them worth it imho. You guys know how picky i am about graphics and visuals..... but there is much for both that makes them special and beautiful.
Wackmaster's is a fun place, and really the fighting is very forgiving in the game, even with lots of foes...and it is fun, the visuals are always rewarding and the special effects great.

During large portions if the game, you walk around, talk to people & solve puzzles, with no fighting involved at all. Then you have the fighting sequences that plays out a bit like the ones in final fantasy (but with no random encounters, thank god), and there are also some arcade sequences mixed in for good measure. I would still classify it as a CRPG, but it is not a pure CRPG.
And save often when you reach sender station. That place is rather buggy. You should in particular save after you have hacked each console.

I suppose I was lucky as I was able to borrow the game from a friend. This is by no means the first time I've thought about this, but I have asked myself before whether or not I should have just gone out and purchased it when I first heard about it. What a silly idea. Who in their right mind would ever go out and spend $20 or $25 on some old RPG hybrid something or whatever. (Heck, at the time I was confident that RPG meant something regarding game content being rated between R and PG) I look at it differently now. Sure, I can always buy an adventure game that I really want for the obligatory $20 and if I really milk it I just may be able to squeeze 20 hours out of it. I estimate that comes out to be roughly $1/hr. If it’s a decent game (by no guarantee at all these days) I consider the hourly distribution cost to be reasonable. And now, well, what if I had paid something for the game. If it really had cost me $0.25/hr to play Anachronox, I would have had just as much fun and it would certainly have been well worth the fee. The appeal of a strong story is too much to resist, given the praise mediocre games get with great graphics. Is my time worth $1 per hour of entertainment to be disappointed? No. But if the story is compelling and substantive and brings benefits, regardless of the looks, it would be worth it. Much like women.

| Deleted User | My game's graphics doesn't even look a fraction this good, and you know I have a rig at least as good as yours, Chris. I don't get it. How do you get your Anachronox graphics looking so good? Mine is so bad that some people can hardly be distinguished as humans. They're also a lot more wishy-washy and fuzzy. ..and my areas and backgrounds are just one muddy mess.
MM- it must be that Nhancer thingie you mentioned in the other thread. I'll give it a go, and report back if I see an improvement. Btw, my completely unpatched vanilla version of the game seems to play fine in XP. It just doesn't look so good.

I reinstalled without patches and it's working fine.
My graphics aren't as neat as CrisGer's though. I might need to tweak the resolution a bit.
Loving it so far although having gone down the tenements and dozens of lifts I am now hopelessly lost. I need one of those automaps robots!

Sorry for the tweaking needed but it is worth the effort. Let me know if you need help with any of it, as i am trying to gather data on all of this to help others too.
trav..also be sure you chose the high resolution setting in the menu set up for the game too

There are Taxis you can use, that are quite reasonable.... but for now, just keep moving around, you get the "feel' for it and that all is part of the fun.
IMagine what they had to do to learn their way around that planetoid

| Deleted User | The biggest problem I encountered running the game on Vista was that I could not get it to work at the higher resolution 1280 X 960. It would only work at 640 X 480 which is kind of a drag so I ended up going back to XP. At the higher resolution the graphics are very sharp albeit the models are blocky. Someone said a while back that they were able to get it working correctly on Vista. I think it might have been Terry but I can't be sure. As for those of you running XP it seems strange that the patches don’t seem to be working. :-/

Sender station is a neat little satelite that has the interplanetary shuttle port on it near by...
pics will show how this works....and you can look down and see the surface of Anachronox itself...it is divided up into sections that are moving all the time...so the city is re arranging itself constantly
Shuttle just about to launch from surface of Anachronox....with a view of the city skyline...

Launch and rising up into the inner atomosphere of the outer sphere...the circle in the sky is one of the ports to Outer Space thru the outer shell
