Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately, Nemesis and Grand Inquisitor are the only Windows-based Zork games, and unless Activision has a major change-of-heart they will be the only ones for a long time to come :'(
On the bright side, if you're playing the series for the first time you're in for a real treat! Zork Nemesis is the best "Myst"ish game I've ever played and Zork Grand Inquisitor is one of my all-time favorite games!

That's exactly the info I was looking for. I guess I'll order those two games and just jump right in. I loved Myst, and I only play adventure games (I hate fighting and dying), so I'm sure I'll love it. I've heard of Zork for a long time, but I never knew the new ones were point-and-click games. With a name like Zork I always thought they were some outerspace-Star Trek-shooting-aliens game!
Thanks again for the info! Z-Girl

P.S. Grand Inquisitor is by far the best IMHO.

As far as I remember, no fighting or action scenes in either game!
You can die in Zork GI, but even this is kinda fun (assuming you've saved fairly recently). When you die the game brings up a text screen in tribute to the old text adventures. Usually with a humorous remark about what an idiot you were to perform the manuever that got you killed, what outlandish way you met your demise, and with a rating of your adventuring abilities!
I don't remember dying in Zork Nemesis. However, if you're the squeamish type there's a few "parts" in the asylum...
I never tried to run Return to Zork in Windows but if jujigatame says you can then I believe him.

Status : Offline | I played Zork Nemesis, and tell you - It's a superb one! The game give you millions of tasks, stunning graphics and nice puzzles. Absolutelly climatic. To me, the best acting of all times. Sound is fantastic too... I'm playing Return to Zork......and it's an extreme hard game, impossible to solve without walktrus...and really, RZ run only in DOS. Unfortunelly, I don't played Grand Inquisitor yet.

I was wondering about the whole Zork series of games. I know the old ones are DOS, but I was wondering which ones were run on Windows (I'm not patient enough to run dos-based games!).
There's a nifty tool called WinFrotz 2002 that will load all the old Infocom games IN WINDOWS. There's still some typing to be done (take the lamp, open the trophy case, etc.) but it's a true Windows interface with a good deal of point-and-click.
You can download this free interpreter at my site - http://www.malinche.net/free.html and then just run it. Load the game files (ZORK1.DAT, ZORK2.DAT, etc.) and you're now playing Zork in Windows.
Enjoy!

Thanks so much to everyone that replied! You all gave me exactly the information I was looking for, and I ordered Grand Inquisitor today. By the end of the week I'm sure I will have bought Nemesis as well. And thanks a bunch Howard, for the link and the info on Winfrotz. I've never heard of it before but it's good to know your site is out there in case I ever want to venture back to the deep dark depths of the earlier Zorks!
Thanks again! Z-Girl

You'll find that Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor are very different from each other. ZGI is very humorous and light hearted, while Zork Nemesis went down a waaaay darker path. It still has some humor, but mostly in the form of in-jokes, and you have to be more observant to catch it.
Nevertheless, these are both completely awesome games. I love them. And I love Return to Zork too, though it's not nearly as popular. Sadly, I can't get RtZ to run on my computer. :'(
And if you can, you should check out the text games. You can download the first three in the series for free now, and they don't take up much space. There's also a new text Zork game out now, also free. Infocom released it around the same time as ZGI, I believe, as a promotion thing. I haven't played it, so I don't know how it is. But you might consider giving it a shot.
Good luck with Zork! It's a great series!
