...with a playable PacMan game on Google's homepage.

It's really cute. Just use your keyboard arrow keys.

Cool! A great adaption, they even included the cut scenes between levels. A shame that's it's only up for 48 hours. I hope they archive it somewhere.

Huh? Yes and no, I suppose.

Yes, it plays well like a little web Flash game should and... perhaps no. Maybe not in China.

But I imagine the Pac-Man owners are quite thrilled about their game being "honored" and aren't gonna sue Google, Tig. Don't you worry.

Deleted UserDarn.

I would certainly never have wasted all those quarters back in '80 had I the foresight that thirty years later I would be able to play it for free.

Well, I discovered I'm still as good at Pac-Man as I ever was. (Which is to say, I always hit "game over" after the first few levels.)  :

PacMan was one of the first arcade games that made me realize that my fast twitch muscles don't.

Well, like Andromus said, it was only up for forty-eight hours.

But it made sorta big news. For one, it was Google's first interactive game built into their daily banner and secondly, millions of people worldwide didn't get much work done Friday.

Productivity was down, bandwidth usage was down and the only website many workers visited was Google. Anyway, that's what I heard.

If you do a Google search for Google Pac-Man 30th Anniversary, it's still out there.

Imagine that. Using Google to search Google.

Someone who I know had her father ring him up in panic when this was still up. He thought his computer was infected with a virus because there were these strange creatures running around on the screen when he accessed Google.

I was thrown into a state of panic when I first came here and saw all the strange creatures running around.

But then Caroline introduced herself.

Heh, that reminds me of a faux trailer I saw for a Pac-Man movie where the pills have similar side effects:

Amazing trailer. Kind of creepy too! All the old arcade games seem nightmarish if you imagine living in a world that only has those elements and nothing else.

I was wrong. The Google Pac-Man game is written with a combination of HTML, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and Javascript. I had a glance at the source code and realized there ain't no Flash.

Maybe Apple has something up its sleeve. Apple opted not to support Flash on the new iPad. It seems HTML is getting more sophisticated and fancy without requiring the use of plug-ins.

Aw! It's gone!

Another correction necessary here. Google has now kept this little game close to home: Google Pac-Man

And to be honest, I didn't waste too many quarters or too much time playing arcade Pac-Man. I always felt too old for that sort of thing.

Only until I actually admitted to myself that I really was getting a bit long in the tooth and considered myself a gamer of any sort was when I first played Sanitarium, Shivers, and Riven. Adventure games opened my eyes (and blew my mind) to gaming, and the genre remains one of my very few guilt-free pleasures.
