LOL, I didn't mean anything bad by insinuating there was already a post for this game. Just thought you might want to try the trailer (EDIT: I meant demo) in the links of the posts I linked to.

And see if you can order from amazon.co.uk. It's just 13 UKP (+shipping) for a boxed version. $27 for a dload is plain thievery... :

That and the fact I do not mind paying that much to help smaller developers like this out (Steam gives more money then say, a boxed copy).
Bought it but haven't played it yet, will tonight.

Stiler, are you sure about the Steam price? Well, you mentioned it a couple of times, so you probably are. Which means that Steam once again royally shafts European customers, since we have to pay 36€ (with the nice 10% off for those that buy within the first week of release, it's going to be 40€ after that)!
You are right, Steam gets about 30% from sales, which is much lower than retail publishers, and unless developers offer their game directly from their website, getting it from Steam helps them more.
I have been drooling over The Whispered World's screenshots for a long time, and the main character's voice in the demo is... interesting (annoying but strangely fitting for the character). But with the ridiculous price difference, I'll simply have to retract my opening statement and get a boxed copy from play.com, for 19,50€ and free shipping, which ends up being cheaper than amazon's for anyone outside the UK.

I have played a bit and man, the world and style sucks you right in. The characters voice doesn't bother me much, in fact it seems fitting and I've gotten used to it.
I'm not too far in, but already all the characters I've met have all been memorable and unique and the story is pulling me in. Definitely seems like one of those games you'll look back on 10+ yrs from now and remember fondly.
Especially like Spot (the pet Caterpillar who follows you around).
The art style of the game makes me feel nostalgistic, because it reminds me of those classic 80/90's disney cartoons and things, which you don't see much more of now that everything is CGI and not hand drawn in most films.

I was going to answer to your initial question with "Anyone who doesn't want to pay double the price of a box to download a file" but you replied to yourself in the end. And I ended up getting it from play.com too, since it went up to 23 eur on amazon.uk with shipping and all.

Sadwicks voice doesn't bother me at all (but then what do I know, I liked Al Emmo and Tony Tough ). I can see how this can be a problem for someone who doesn't like the voice acting because a lot of the clues are in the conversations...for example:
Spoiler AlertI had a heck of a time finding the oracle's house but after listening to the rock again, I realized that I had to go through the door the other way (from the "inside" to the outside.)
I don't buy download-only games. Never have, never will........Mike

It did get a little tiresome towards the end, where there was a flood of puzzles, with nothing much happening, slowing down the game considerably. But apart from that, all was great, puzzles level was good (i.e. not post-2000 preschool difficulty levels), Sadwick was a joy to listen to (@MKB: also liked Al and Tony!), visuals were out of this world and I loved the story and the ending, which I had semi-predicted, but I liked the way it unfolded. My only gripe about it is that the developers should have made "the other choice" available too. Overall a MUST-PLAY game for every adventure gamer! 8-)
p.s. And I'd love to have Spot as a pet!

I do - mail me yours

That was the low point in the game - other than that, and a few annoying bugs it was an okay game.

And I really wish they had implemented that other choice Aya mentioned. I went back to try it after choosing the other option and was surprised and disappointed to find it didn't exist after all.
Speaking of bugs, did anyone run into that really odd one where Sadwick leaves whatever path he's on and you can walk him all over the screen, in the air, etc? I was curious if that was just a Steam issue (which was the the version I played), or if it appeared in physical copies.

Ppl should think about the relation character-voice before claiming that a certain voice is bad... See also Al Emmo and Tony Tough. Al's voice was perfect. Yes, it was annoying, but it suited that character perfectly. Unless one expects Al or Tony or Sadwick to sound like Morgan Freeman... :
As for bugs, I encountered one, but it was major. At random points, when changing a screen, the PC would just reset (under Win7). This happened 6 or 7 times throughout the game, mostly during the 1st chapter.

I find Sadwick a likeable protagonist and like some others on here I don't mind his voice at all. It does suit him perfectly! What I like most of all though is the way he has comments about pretty much everything: like all kinds of fun comments for highly unlikely combinations of inventory items. I think its rare in modern adventure games to find that variety. Usually one gets the "that won't work"-comment. And I just have to mention the Rock brothers. Absolutely hilarious!

checked out the demo and looked at some of the info, wont be playing this game. I am not a fan of the broad brush siimplistic animation style ..it started with games in The Abbey and has not gotten any better. Cheaper than doing more detailed animation but just does not have any appeal. Main character voicing is indeed sadly reminiscent of a similar voice error in Telltale. Dont want to spend a game looking at a blue purple face either. but thanks for the posts about this. One less to look at.

It reminds me a bit of the Neverending Story in its mood (the book, not the film).
