Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

Ah, could the GM be stumped?
Godfather, not a million miles off with Dr Who. Certainly in the right sort of genre.
This is not an obvious quote, as there are many from this highly quotable film. Think cult-ish, think camp.

Nice one Malia - I'm impressed. Glad I didn't have to go the obvious route - for there are many.
I loved this film as a kid and it still gets me now. How can this film still be so funny. Great cast too... it doesn't mean too much when you're younger, but re-viewing and recognising people like Timothy Dalton and Richard O'Brien is a blast.
All hail Flash Gordon, saviour of the universe!

I loved this film as a kid and it still gets me now. How can this film still be so funny. Classics films remain funny (in this case) The atmosphere the movie creates and the scenography are superb! Just remember the scene where Dalton's character (can't remember the name) challenges Flash Gordon in that creepy rock full of holes and... Ok, if anyone wants to know what happens (who wins, if one of them dies or not) watch the film!  But that scene is just unforgettable )

All hail Flash Gordon, saviour of the universe! *Queen's song playing*

That whole chunk of film in "arbor" (isn't it called?) is fantastic. (remember that great gag with Flash and Ornella Mutti flying over and nearly crashing on the ice planet of "Frigia" when she's trying to seduce him in the cockpit? )
One amusing anecdote about this film - I saw it in the cinema when it was first released as a little boy. I must have been about five years old. At the moment Flash is "eaten" by the swampy monster after narrowly avoiding death by quicksand apparently I said loudly, "well, Mummy, it looks like it's not Flash Gordon's day" to the amusement of the entire auditorium. that one get's rolled out at family get-togethers every so often as you might imagine. :

That whole chunk of film in "arbor" (isn't it called?) is fantastic. Yes, arbor. Arbor men, and all that. But still can't remember Dalton's character name. ???
(remember that great gag with Flash and Ornella Mutti flying over and nearly crashing on the ice planet of "Frigia" when she's trying to seduce him in the cockpit? ) LOL! Who could forget it??!! (I'll always remember -and laugh- Flash's face while she was playing with the ship's switchboard and especially with the lever )

I think I could go on quoting this film all day long. Instead, something new, an easy one.....
"If they catch you they will kill you..... but first they must catch you."

I've seen it since and liked it much mroe, but there's still the distant whining noise in my head punctuated by the classic phrases 'what does that mean, mummy? what's that, mummy? why's he doing that, mummy?" whenever I watch it *shudder* :

I'll never out-quote you Malia, you're too on my wave-length. I read the book last year and got totally caught up in it. It's fantastic - really worth the read. Made me cry too, which is pretty rare for a book as nearly all of my emotional response is reserved for audio/visual!

That has only happened to me only two or three times in my life, and I dare say I've read quite a few books. One that I remember was a sort of a short story by L.M. Montgomery which can incidentally be found here (expired copyrights are a good thing!).
But back on topic. Here's another quote:
"...and at that moment all the winkles cast off their shells and use them as megaphones to announce the concert.... then the hammerhead shark plays the xylophone with catfish bones... the sea is blue like the sky and the sky is blue like the south seas and I don't know if I'm swimming in the sky or flying at the bottom of the sea - I swear it gives me the shivers!"

So true... As Giger said once, a single child is a charming creature, but a bunch of kids...that can be creepy (e.g., Sanitarium, chapter 2 )
"No! No! Not de Bore Vorms! Farder!" (Ahh, poor Aura :) Remember this dialogue? (not sure how accurate it is, but you'll get the concept) Aura: Look! Water is leaking from her eyes... Miing: It's what they call tears. It's a sign of their weakness. (I just loved that scene... Ming is probably one of the most evil characters in movies history!)
I'll never out-quote you Malia, you're too on my wave-length. It's always great to find people with a similar taste for movies (and what an exquisite taste we have )
I read the book last year and got totally caught up in it. It's fantastic - really worth the read. Haven't read the book, yet... But if you say it's worth reading, I'll try to get my hands on it

And that quote of Giger's could be just as easily applied to adults
