I was wondering what happened to this game?

I remember reading this* interview and getting all excited, but it was already two years ago...

I'm a bit dissapointed with the endless waiting regarding many adventure games, especially my favourites and their sequels, such as Culpa Innata and Dreamfall...

Im also still looking forward to a new Broken Sword game.

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Last Finished: can't recall, been too long.

Yeah, I just wish that with all this waiting they won't come out with a game like Still Life 2! It better be good, and even better than the first

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Culpa Innata is a great game. Surely a sequel would be bonny.

'Tis a definite mystery about Culpa Innata 2. A future release date doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, including the Rogue State Forums and Momentum-DMT site. Everywhere I've looked still says Fall 2009.

I will say one thing, though. I'm a big fan of both Culpa Innata and Still Life, and I'd rather see no CI2 than a substandard mess like Still Life 2 (one of the worst games I've ever played).

When I saw Dreamfall mentioned, I realized I hadn't visited Ragnar Tornquist's site for awhile. I tried to do so just now and encountered a "suspended page" error. Uh-oh. :-?

I'll just quote "gatorlaw", one of the developers, on the Gameboomer forum http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/590941/1.html

Don't give up on us - just yet

Is the game delayed, yes. Unfortunately, when the down turn came last year a LOT of people were left being owed money, a lot of money. Including us frown

BUT Momentum did not pull the plug at all on Culpa 2. Too much work put into it already and too many people who have encouraged everyone and eagerly await the game. The Momentum team values its many fans so highly, you have no idea.

And there are a great many games, that go through delays (some a lot longer than this YET people keep them going and eventually released to their fans. This year, I am pretty sure we will finally get to see Gray Matter, among a few others laugh

So still here, still breathing - just quietly rebuilding. smile

Oh, and Ragnar has more or less given up on his blog and is "twittering" in stead: http://twitter.com/RagnarTornquist

Funny how games released in around 2006, 2007 (Culpa Innata, Dreamfall and even Broken Sword 4 I dare say) have their sequels on a standby for some reason.

As to Dreamfall I was wondering, fans of TLJ had to wait 8 years for a sequel. thats a long time! And since Dreamfall, "only" 4 years have passed.... I hope we don't have to wait for 4 more years!  :'( I still can't understand why Ragnar decided to embark in an MMORPG venture, after the flop of Age of Conan. I hope he does well though, it will mean more funds to develop a good Dreamfall sequel.

Yeah, relating to Culpa Innata 2, the delays seem concerned with shortage of funds, team, developer swaps? I guess Still Life 2 producion had similar problems so let's hope the quality of the game won't suffer from it.

As to Broken Sword 5 (yeah I know, there have been already 4 games in the series... I shouldn't complain) some years ago Charles Cecil talked about a game plot going back to the story of Nico and George before they met each other. Sounds interesting to me, but I haven't heard anything from it anymore. Cecil seems more eager in releasing BS (Broken Sword) Games for other platforms these days...

Playing: Skyrim (ongoing)

Thanks for the info. I suppose I should remove his blog URL from JA's list of adventure game bloggers.

This reminds me that I haven't actually played the first Culpa Innata yet..I couldn't understand how there was such a huge discrepancy in the reviews/opinions about it, some people seem to think its a work of genius and others absolutely hated it.

Anyway, its sad that the developers obviously didn't make enough money out of the first game to finance the sequel I guess this explains why there seems to be a drought of AG's at the moment - you have to get the finance in place first before you can get the games out there? This also would appear to suggest that there really isn't any money to be made in this genre at all, not a great sign for the future...

Unless they kept the money for themselves and are hoping to start over from virtual scratch.  It could be just bad business and lack of commitment to their brand, aka Culpa, which seemed to me to be very popular but garnered extremely mixed responses.  I think the reviewers attempted to uplift it, but the game didn't come through.

In the case of TLJ and Dreamfall, my goodness, the fan base is eager to plunk down their money for a sequel.  You'd think a little fundraising would get the investment money.  What a shame, a real tragedy for fans of AGs.  If there was ever a current AG series that could compete with the likes of Mass Effect 2, it's TLJ series.

So if the games with the most potential aren't receiving sequels, what does that say for AG's in general?

This may already have been mentioned somewhere but I tried searching and didn't find anything. It's from the Rogue State Forums, on http://www.culpainnata.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=288&sid=7106241377cd5c7a59602c10316c87e7 towards the bottom (in a thread started in Sept 200
. Unfortunately, it's dated April 1, 2010 -- April Fool's Day -- but here it is. Nix is the site admin:

"Jorian, unfortunately I haven't heard anything recently. Let's see if Nix is around and responds. If not, I will try to get a hold of her for you and ask.

"UPDATE: Okay, I have gotten in touch with Nix. Here is the response she sent me:

"Quote:

"But, the team has not given up yet. Too much work put into it already and so many gamers anticipating the game.

"And there are a great many games that go through delays, YET people keep them going and eventually released to their fans. consider the long road Gray Matter has taken to release, among a few others ...

"So still Culpa is still here, just delayed.

"Hopefully this helps. Like you, I am really anticipating this game and hope we will one day be able to play it. Gray Matter is being released this year, by the way. Hopefully Culpa 2 will be able to get through all the hurdles in a similar manner, and we will be able to pick up our copies."

It is news to me, at least, Karla, and thank you very much for it
. If I had to pick, I'd rather see CI2 released than just about any other adventure game currently in development, including Gray Matter.
