But since you have responded without acknowledging the obvious contradiction then I'll explain it to you. Realizing that the mocking had gone on too long is fine, but IMO how you expressed it was not in keeping with an acknowledgment of your own complicity. If you had simply posted something like 'I know I seemed to encourage things at the beginning, but perhaps it's time to dial this down' that would have been different. But to tell people inititially you're really getting a kick out of what they are posting and then come back and issue a command to 'Please stop it' comes across as disengenuous....at least to me.

IviniaGuild Master![]() Posts : 4459 Joined: 7 JUN 2003 Location: US Status : Offline | No, I am not picking a fight here. The tone doesn't come across in a post, so I want to state up front that there is no anger towards anyone here. I'm just stating the facts as I see them, others may see differently. [End of disclaimer] I'm really confused. The poking fun aspects died on this 2 days ago and the thread took another turn involving post counts. Then one person comes in late, makes a post and suddenly its gone too far? It was pretty much already dead. Personally, going back and reviewing old posts does not in any way give you the true feel of being here and dealing with what went on with him. Many people, myself included, didn't even want to post on these forums because of it. There were posts started by him for the express purpose of trying to divide the forum, start fights, attack the mods, attempts at circumventing the rules, threatening and belittling other forum members both publicly and via PMs - even going so far as creating different screen names and picking fights. This went on for a couple of years as even people who tried to 'be nice' got kicked in the teeth as a reward. Then the forum has a bit of fun for a couple of days at that person's expense and we are being cruel? Really? As far as I'm concerned, he caused tension to the point of people not posting much. I'm sure there were lots of other reasons as well, but IMO he was a contributing factor. The fact that this thread brought back people who seemed to have stepped away is poetic justice, IMO. If you really paid attention, he wanted to be the center of attention at everyone's expense. Yes, I think its pretty funny that he finally got it. Please don't judge us for being mean for a few days to someone who has caused so much tension here for a few years. :-/ |

anthonyJourneyman![]() ![]() Posts : 1270 Joined: 11 JUN 2003 Status : Offline | A matter of perspective. Jelena has probably visited this thread on a daily basis from its inception. The amount of time that elapsed from the posts on page 2 to the posts on page 6 was, to her, a matter of days. That is why my post on page 6 seemed stale to her. In her view, the joke had worn out its welcome. For me, I first saw the thread when it was already 6 pages long. The amount of time that elapsed between the posts on page 2 and those on page 6 was, to me, a matter of seconds. It was all fresh to me when I posted so I thought my post was timely as well. In any event, I think SirDave has a valid point. The joke shouldn’t have existed in the first place and I now regret having participated in it. |

Those people who deliberately set the cat among the pideons sit back and laugh. It would be ironic and exquisitely entertaining for such a person to witness such group self-flagellation. Time to cut slack folks. Talk about something else and above all - [size=14]BE HAPPY. :-* |

| Deleted User | Ok, really really last post, (on the subject) because I really just have to get my 2c in, since I saw Ivinia's post and Anthony's post, before I saw yours, Caroline. :-* Ivinia has had a history with this person beyond the forums and he knows what the "mocked person" is really like. Ivinia even warned me once, not to trust too much in the peace I had brokered with this person. Ivinia was right. The more I had tried to be nice to the person, the more I got kicked in the teeth either immediately, or after some sweet friendliness from the person for a post or two, a kick in the butt at a later point in time. Caroline knows the feeling. She used to be friends with this person, and he just suddenly turned on her. Another poster was kicked in the teeth by this person in a most cruel and callous manner, while she was going through an exceptionally hard time in her life. I must admit that really angered me, but still I always held back, because I knew that attacking this person would escalate and escalate into a huge unpleasant fight. Now to get to Anthony. About 8 hours ago, (before the 3 posts above were posted) I had wanted to put a post saying something to Anthony like: "on't feel bad, Anthony, you obviously came into the discussion late, and it's only the luck of the draw that your post is last and therefore seems to be the post under attack, whereas, actually, Anthony's post was not really worse than most of the rest of ours. I wanted to specifically say that to Anthony, because I really like him and think that he is a really pleasant member to have around here. He is intelligent, pleasant, and supplies us with the most wonderful photo's. Which is why, one day, I took on this person ("the" person under discussion) because (under guise of a different nickname and membership), he was belittling Anthony for no reason at all, and with no provocation from Anthony's side. At that stage I had thought this person was "**tj*" (a previously banned member) who had returned - he had the same malicious style, and had not specified an age, country or gender). It ended up in a very unpleasant fight, and later when I realised that it was indeed actually this person under present discussion; the irony of it really struck me: Anthony had been one of this person's champions, when there started being talk of banning this person. Anthony had actually spoken well of him upon occasion, and here he was, kicking Anthony in the butt under the veil of a disguise. So, I'm just going to accept that what we (or perhaps just me?) had been doing, was indeed a kind of "closure" procedure: like Sheherazade wisely observed "a catharsis" and Jelena equally wisely observed: "pent-up feelings that was being vented." I guess that most of what I mainly wanted to say, is that Anthony had also been a victim of this person, so let's not single him out just because he came in a bit late for the discussion. Now, let's hope everybody who had gone through trouble with the person under discussion at some point in time, has by now read this thread, said their say, mocked their mock, and got rid of any festering resentment. ...and now, Caroline, I too am cleansed and have had my little say and I'm quite happy to comply with your command (you still being my senior in rank :-* ) to: "Talk about something else and above all - BE HAPPY. " [smiley=silly.gif] Gee, you know, there is a tree flowering outside my window, and the prettiest little metallic green honeybird has been sucking the nectar out of the flowers. It just lifts my spirits every time I see the cute little tyke hanging upside down from a stem and enjoying the nectar from those pretty pale yellow flowers. |

AShadowWalkerPrivate Detective![]() ![]() Posts : 776 Joined: 6 AUG 2009 Status : Online | I have to concur that both Ivinia and Traveller have sumned up the feelings of others pretty much well concerning the individual in question; LenG! Some of you seem to be wringing hands and conciences over this. Why?, is it to prove what? Civility? Civilized behavior? A higher ground?. Your choice. Truthfully, I feel no concern for him. And I don't give a damn who differs with me on this, or thinks less of me for it. I won't loose any sleep over what anyone here thinks of me. Both Ivinia and Traveller put candidly and politely what the situation was and the manner of individual that he was and what others suffered at his postings. In short, he was and is a hyena of the worst sort, and I really couldn't care less about him or the reasons he was like that. What's done is done. It definitely looks like its come time to move on. And again, regardless of whether others accept or not what I have just said, its a moot point wit me now. After the last encounter with that rabid dog, I knew his peace offer was a sham, so I ignored his postings, because I knew that the next time we clashed it was again going to be a waste of time over someone who was not worth the time. And likewise whether others think me rude, obnoxious or uncivilized for this post; honestly, you can kiss my chocolate bar! Don't care. So...where do we go from here. There has been enough bickering here for much of nothing about perceived statements and scuffling over opinions on proper behavior and semantics for much about nothing. And whomever disagrees; I have another chocolate bar for you. But one thing I definitevely perceive to seem true. It does look like it is time to move on and let the winds carry off the stench, and dust away after we hit the road. So...who has the compass? |

SirDaveGuild Master![]() ![]() Posts : 4940 Joined: 17 OCT 2002 Location: US Status : Online | I wasn't going to say any more about this, but in view of some of the comments above, I will. For the most part, I look on this as something which took on more of a life of its own than people intended. Unfortunately, the not too distant events that led to this obviously continued to fester because there was never any resolution/closure of them. I do understand that Ivinia was selected out for special punishment -particularly unfair because he is one of the good guys in my book. As for ShadowWalker's comment above including the hyena comment: I'll just say that you should know when enough is enough- it was hardly necessary to pile on one more time. And I've got a suggestion as to where you can put your chocolate. I've been very conflicted over the way Len left this forum. I've always liked him though I became really concerned & saddened during the last year or so. Considering his contribution to adventure gaming, it just didn't seem right how he came to leave the forum, keeping in mind that he does carry the full responsibility for how that went down. However, I just want to mention that in view of his age and the increasing health issues he had, there may well have been something else going on that might explain this, something that wasn't necessarily totally under his control. If so, it deserves our compassion. (We're all headed in that direction after all.) He was always a person with strong opinions and ready to take on any provocation, but 'knowing' him through the forum for many years, his responses more recently were not typical, even for him. And I think it is important for us to remember that Len often offered help and showed many acts of kindness to people over the years in more ways than one. Also, he did contribute to adventure gaming in a major way. That's more the core person that I choose to remember.

He set his own course and must deal with the consequences. But like the Clint Eastwood character said in The Unforgiven: "eserve has got nothin' to do with it." The fact is that I can post, while he cannot. That's what makes my poking fun at his expense unfair. And that is why I regret my post. |

JA-Staff2Private Detective![]() Posts : 466 Joined: 4 JUN 2004 Location: 0 Status : Online | It's really nice to read everyone's responses on both sides. From a moderating standpoint, we really were torn and the decisions were not quick. What it really comes down to is this, at what point is giving someone like that unfair to everyone else including those running the site? If this were a store and you had a customer in there who was insulting other patrons and driving away business, you'd be expected to get rid of them. As for the Yogibear events, we were aware early on that it was Len, but he seemed to be in here behaving and not acting up. He was nice and helpful in his posting. What you didn't know is that behind the scenes he was championing Randy to have us give him his old screen name back. We had been bit too many times before and knew Len had a tendency to act nice for a short while, then act up again leaving us kicking ourselves and regretting that we had given him another chance. We all decided that we would not restore his old name and warned that he would probably start acting up. Shortly after that there was the attack on Ray's review which seemed more geared towards attacking Ray as opposed to just focusing on what he didn't like about the review. Then the fiasco involving his post being moved and most of you know how that turned out. Len can be normal when he wants something, but once he feels he's gotten it (or isn't going to get it), he comes out with guns blazing again. At some point though, it isn't fair to the forum, the person who is paying the bills that keep this site going, or us staff who would be forced to spend way too much of our personal time watching these forums all because we have to babysit one individual. You guys are the heart and soul of Just Adventure. I don't think any of you deserve some of the treatment that has been given to you by one individual. PS - We're implementing new changes to the forums and posts in Off Topic will be removed from your post counts and no longer counted in your post totals. I believe that makes Andromus and Sir Dave the top posters, leaving ShadowWalker with a toilet plunger on his head. PSS - That was my late April Fool's joke. |
