I wonder if there is any possibility DOSBox will be available for iPad one of these days?
I might conceivably faint if that were the case.

Beyond the obvious lack of a keybaord[1] (and mouse, for that matter), my understanding is that the iPad lacks a front-facing hierchical filesystem, so managing one's games would probably prove annoying. Beyond that 1GHz isn't a lot of horsepower, especially considering the iPad uses a completely different processor architecture from that which DOS would expect, which means expensive emulation.
Really, it wouldn't be much good for anything save emulating a 80286, and the user experience would almost certainly be poor. One might want to repackage very old games using DOSBox internally for emulation, but this might be seen as contravening the now-infamous section 3.3.1 of the 4.0 SDK license agreement[2].
If someone wanted to release Prince of Persia for the iPad, for example, they'd probably have an easier time porting the recent remake, or just re-writing the original from scratch.
[1] the virtual keyboard would probably be insufficient for most games since there are no arrow keys, function keys, et cetera; it's also unlikely Apple would allow an application which requires a hardware keyboard, but I might be wrong there.

You make some good points. For ease of reference, I will comment on them in individual paragraphs. Not that I can necessarily add much beyond wishful thinking. I should also stress that I do not yet have an iPad. I am just a regular, non-technically-minded would-be-user.
No keyboard or mouse: Now that I think about it, even most very old point-and-click adventure games require some typing, at least when saving a game. But there is the virtual keyboard, though I have no idea if it could be brought up in third-party applications. Alternatively, I understand there is a physical keyboard accessory available. Unless of course the device would accept any old keyboard anyway. But isn't the point of the touch screen in the first place to replace a mouse?
No hierachical file system: This would make accessing games awkward, but seems a solvable problem. Maybe via some kind of "gateway" front end?
Modest processor power: I understand 1GHz is borderline in getting at least some games to run smoothly, even on a PC, so this might mean that even if all the other problems were solved, it might be necessary to wait for iPad 2.0.
Different processor architecture: This one sounds (at least to a layperson such as me) like it might be a problem.
License agreement issue: This is the first I have read about this and I know too little to be able to comment.
Now I will hide behind a corner until I find out how many problems and points of misinformation there are in the above. But I can still hope someone might consider all this merely a to-do list to be solved one point at a time.

However, given that such disparate games as Myst, Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky and Return to Mysterious Island have already appeared on the iPhone/iTouch, I think it is almost definite that once a few million of the iPads are sold, we can expect a number of older AGs to appear for the iPad.
These will most likely be games where there is still some sort of developer entity in existence and games that have already been released for PDAs (eg. pocketpcs). So, I expect to see Kheops games (given RTMI and a couple of others are already available for the iPhone), some of the Sokal Microids games (Syberia I & II), more of the LucasArts games, and possibly even Jonathan Boakes' games.
A particular reason, not yet mentioned, why AGs (IMO) are more likely to appear and do well on the iPad is that I believe the iPad is going to have more women users, relatively, than other gadgets have had and where there's more women, there is more interest in AGs. One of the reasons there should be more women is that the iPad serves as a very good eBook reader. Some proof for this gender-based theory is that, already, some sophisticated children's books have already appeared for the iPad (eg. Miss Spider's Tea Party- a highly interactive ebook for $9.99). I have the Kindle DX which is the main competitor for the iPad as an eReader for best-seller books and the iPad compares, side by side, very favorably and, in fact, excels in some features.
Another reason for possible increased interest by women is that the iPad serves as an excellent internet surfing tool (it's very fast compared to a regular laptop) and will be great for keeping up on one's Facebook & other social pages. Yet one more reason, though more speculative, is that the iPad offers some very nice basic business-related programs and the iPad will fit in a business-woman's medium-size purse more easily than a netbook.
Incidentally, regarding the reported Wifi problems on the iPad. They are very much for real and I've had to deal with some of them although, so far, it's not a deal-breaker for me. For me, the effects are spurious, but mostly consist of periodic reductions to one bar on the Wifi-strength indicator (as opposed to 4 bars which my iTouch always has). However, even with one bar, I'm able to do most things on the internet. Yesterday, I had frequent one-bars; today, I'm getting consistently 4 bars- go figure.

The future ain't what it used to be!

Anyway, my iPad is due to be delivered on Saturday AM (4/1/10) and I am more excited about the event than I have been about any gadget for quite some time. In fact, I find myself unexpectedly out of town at the moment and so I will be making a 250 mile round trip to make sure I am home to take delivery.

As an update to the post referenced above, we now know that many, if not most, apps for the iTouch will run on the iPad. By double-tapping on the screen, the apps (480x320 pixel resolution of the iTouch) will be rescaled for the 1024x768 fullscreen of the iPad. I will be trying some games such as Myst and Under A Steel Sky right away and expect that they may be a tad pixelated. However, my guess is that developers will re-release games like this with a better resolution (though not necessarily 1024x76 for the iPad before too long.
I mentioned the many benefits of this type of platform for AGs in my original post. I stand by all of them and furthermore, forecast that the iPad will result in the eventual development of several new point and click AGs. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see several older AGs revived for the iPad, many more than have been for the iTouch. The touch-screen iPad has almost every chance of being an almost optimal platform for point & click games.
The effect of the release of the iPad will take some time to be realized when it comes to new AGs, but I say it will happen, especially since it will now be cost-effective for very small developers to both put out some good games and make a profit.
Stay tuned.
I might conceivably faint if that were the case.
