Hey all,

I finally got around to finishing Dreamfall TLJ last night (and this game has to have the most, what about... in a game ending ever).  I tend to get games, maybe try them for a bit and then something new comes out, so I pick that one up and end up not coming back for awhile to the previous one.  Adventure games are my favorite genre, and I'm an avid fan of Myst and Myst gear, URU being my favorite.  I've recently reinstall Myst IV to finish that and finally see what V looks like but again I'm one not to play for hours and days on one game.

What I'm asking for is suggestions, I have many adventure games so suggest what you think.  I'll check out ebay if I don't have it.  I'm looking for something like Dreamfall's play though.  One where I can program my controller to move the character around, and not the mouse cursor (I have Myst for that).  I just can't think of anything thats even really close to Dreamfall and a true adventure that I currently have.

Some of my favorites:

Myst
TLJ
Syberia Series
Broken Sword Series
Monkey Island Series
A Vampyre Story
Beyond Good & Evil (about as close as I can think to DF atm)
Indigo Prophecy (of course DR I'd be playing now and not have to ask everyone but we can thank Sony for that one)

Thanks for any suggestions you have.

I'm pretty sure the games from Telltale are gamepad-controllable.
If you like Monkey Island, you might like those.

Beyond Good & Evil, Indigo Prophecy, and Dreamfall all had console versions, so the option for using a gamepad was built into them. How many games you find may depend on how well your gamepad software maps keyboard keys to controller buttons when the game doesn't natively have a gamepad as a control option. For example, I know some people have played Grim Fandango using a gamepad, though the default seems to be keyboard-controlled. Myst V and Uru were keyboard-controlled, though it might be possible to play them with a gamepad if your gamepad software is good enough to map the keyboard controls when the game has no option for it. If you like Myst, you might also like Schizm 2 (aka Mysterious Journey 2) and Sentinel (aka Realms of Illusion), which were both keyboard-controlled and may be gamepad-mappable.

IMO a controller is kind over overkill for adventure games.  Whenever possible, I remap to the four arrow keys instead of the mouse.

I also have a trackball that requires no mouse movement at all and just a flick of your fingertips to move the character and look around.  I find that a great solution to the mouse.

The big advantage to a gamepad is that you're not tied to the desktop.  But there are solutions -- and chairs with wide arms -- that can solve that, as well.

For me, and maybe you too, I think about suiting my gameplay to the best games possible, rather than omitting good games because my gamepad won't work.

New playing habits are fairly easy to develop.  I just switched to playing more action games.  I'd never, ever, used the WASD keys for my very survival before.  Now I'm pretty good at it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replys.  I have the games you've both mentioned and played them all.  With Monkey Island I should have mentioned both new and old, and yes it works fantastic with a controller (better than keyboard/mouse, control is perfect).  I agree and I think you misunderstood me with wanting to use a controller.  I'm not wanting to skip any good adventure due to the use or not of a controller.  I'm trying to explain the type of adventure I'd like to try atm, one of the style of Dreamfall.  I just couldn't think of anything similar yet that I haven't played.  I play multiple games usually, I normally don't stick with one game and play it for hours until its finished.  I do find I'm usually the only one that does this, while friends continue with that one certain game they now like.  I've used a trackball, still have one but they kill my fingers after sometime, a thumb version might be better but I don't have any need for it.

I've found Saitek software to be of the best for making any game into full joystick/gamepad support, it's very simple to use and can do advanced macros as well.  I just wanted to know if anyone could think of something similar to Dreamfall.  I guess I just have an itch for this style of adventure atm and was surprised it was over so fast.  Itch not scratched.

There are sometimes I do just like to sit back with a controller and play an adventure game that doesn't have any support for one.  BGE even though more of an action game works great like this.

I'll proubly just stick with Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island as I have that mapped and it works well, Myst IV&URU, and some DAO but you didn't see me say it.  Maybe a miracle will happen and we will see TLJ3 this year, yes I can dream sometimes.

Fahrenheit was made with gamepads in mind, and it's a really good game, so if you have not checked it out, then I recommend that you do! The story is incredibly good in that game, and while the gameplay has a few flaws, it's still well worth getting that game.

Shadow of destiny is another one that should work well with a gamepad (I think it was originally a PS2 game). It's again a very story driven game, and while I prefer Fahrenheit to this, both games are worth getting.

Fahrenheit and Indigo Prophecy are the same game, actually.  The Xbox version was Indigo Prophecy.

Ah, darn, I seem to have had a short memory lapse there. Was not the game called Indigo prophecy in the state, and Fahrenheit in the rest of the world?

Yes. Quite correct.  Indigo Prophesy was the US name, and Europe and the rest had it as Fahrenheit.  Strange, but this often happens with games. For instance: Sherlock Holmes Nemesis in the US, and Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin elsewhere.

I have heard that the reason for the name change was that they were afraid that people would think that Fahrenheit and the movie Fahrenheit 911 had anything in common, so to avoid confusion, they changed the name.

As for Arsene Lupin was named Nemesis in the UK as well. At least my copy that I ordered from the UK is named Nemesis (tough ingame, and the shortcut for the game says Arsene Lupin)
