Due Q4 2003. So it may wind up as an action/adventure but you know a lot of us have a soft spot for the Prince of Persia series. And again it's t[size=16]h[size=18]r[size=13]e[size=18]e [size=16]D[size=13]i[size=24]m[size=16]e[size=18]n[size=13]s[size=24]i[size=16]on[size=24]al.

Deleted UserTalk about unoriginal - they totally ripped that castle off from Bram Stoker's Dracula.

They gotta try hard than that - that's my problem with current games design. Designed by technicians, not designers... blech...

Who cares if they can throw polygons together and add N to X? I want to see something that rivals a Hollywood movie, not rips one off!

Monkeybone, i don't agree... The castle really fits in the P&P1-atmosphere with that mix of large rooms and tiny secret corridors. I hope that the game, being 3D, doesn't take away the gameplay of the first two P&P's. I never played P&P3D, just because most reviews say it isn't that good...

In this case, desiging by technicians isn't a big problem. In playing P&P it's only gameplay that counts, and those 'technical', P&P/tombraider-like rooms are perfect for a 3D action/puzzle game. (You surely remember the perfectly measered out jump-sequences in level 12 of PP1. And what about that sprint to the slowly-closing gate in level 3?)

Should I try PP3D though, since it's quite cheap now?

Deleted UserI heard PP3 is pretty awful, but if it's cheap enough and you've got cash to spare go for it. The main bugbear seems to be the control system.

Either you're a technician or technically minded, but when games like Unreal 2 are released nowadays I always feel dejected that the design seems to be done by a bunch of 12 year old monkeys and not by people who're QUALIFIED designers.

If more games were produced with as much love gone into them as I put into my work, then I'd be a lot happier. I'm not happy unless someone gets a laugh out of a cartoon I board... if it doesn't happen then I've failed. When was the last time I laughed at a well-designed game? Or marvelled at the sheer inventiveness of something?

I'd like to see NEW large rooms and tiny secret corridors. Not the same large rooms and tiny secret corridors that I've seen a thousand times before whether it's Arx "Ultima Underworld rip-off" Fatalis or countless Tomb Raider sequels.

Imagine playing the Prince, climbing up a twisted vine into an exotic, organic location with crumbling architecture to rival Gormenghast...

Of course, these things go both ways. Morrowind was a great looking title that technically failed in terms of the sheer scope of the thing... I loved it, but I can see it's faults a mile of in that respect.

Thing is, if you look at that castle which resembles a chair in the POP screenshot and take a look at the Dracula design, then you'll see what I mean. Practically the same.

Sure, the atmosphere is there, but why I can't I visit locations in games that I've never been before? If I see another giger-esque level in something I SWEAR I'll shoot... er... something... in the game...

Well, there are some reproductions of Giger's work on my bedroom wall so maybe it's just my (bad?) taste...

POP3D's control system was a lot like how the prince moved in the original. It took him a second to pick up the pace before being able to run at full speed and it also takes a second/little distance to come to a complete stop. The prince also couldn't make very sharp turns while running. In other words; the movement was fairly realistic. (try making a 90 degrees turn in real life while running at full speed. Oh, and don't hurt yourself)

The problem was that this wasn't very common in 3D and thus lots of people complained about it being awkward. If you get used to it, though, it's no longer a very big deal. (there's only very few situations in the game where sharp turns would be useful)

Well, from just looking at the screenshots, you are right it is beautiful.  I played part of the last one and it is more of an action game not an adventure game but getting back to screenshots, you are righgt I am oogling.

I certainly enjoyed POP3D, and I'm looking forward to getting the new one. My only regret is that I traded POP3D in the middle of last year, so didn't get a chance to try it on my new graphics card. (ATI Radeon 9000 AGP 128 Pro)

I kind of didn't notice until later that they are concept screens or drawings. I have no idea if a demo or the full game will look anything close to those 3 pics.
