Status : Online | I haven't played it myself, since I sold my own copy. (Dutch version with a really messed up translated menu-system and subtitles that can't be turned off...) But as far as I know adventuregames only involve the most basic forms of math. Of course there are some exceptions. Rama seems to involve some difficult higher-base math, but Schizm is made for a broader public...
Even if there is a lot of math involved, i'm pretty sure it's the kind of math that everyone can come up with after a bit of logic thinking!
Still I'm curious what others -who have played the game- have to say about this...

Go the forum index and look down to the lowest one below: JA Forum Archives and checkout my: Games Graded by Difficulty. Should give you some of the info you need. Schizm is among some of the toughest adventure games. If you handled Myst well you'll probably be okay. Likewise, if you got thru Riven without a walkthrough, you should have no problem.
Schizm has gotten almost unanimous rave reviews but it's difficulty has kept some people away. IMHO, you don't need to be a mathematical wizard to beat it!

The future ain't what it used to be!

Myst and Exile were pretty easy. I solved Myst without help and Exile with a hint or two. Riven, on the other hand, was, er, somewhat of a different story. Maybe I'll hold off on buying until I see it in a bargain bin in accordance with my Adventure Game Rule Of Acquisition number 42: "Good game or bad, 10 bucks or less is a deal you must have!"

Define "everyone". Meaning that I couldn't. It's more than just logical thinking. I'm not the smartest person in the world, heh, but neither am I the dumbest. No, this is one game that will put off a lot of people. And yes, of course, there is also that minority of gamers who love mathematical brain teasers.

Actually the so called mathematical aspect on one (in particular) is abit "blown up". After I had played the game I read part of an Walkthrough and then, only then even myself (beeing a teacher in Math) would have been put off even to try and solve the puzzel. The puzzel was difficult BUT trying to solve it with a bit more open mind attitude Is what I recommend. Instead of trying to solve It with mathematical "rules".
Just a tip!
Good Luck to you all.
FOR THE MOMENT I AM PLAYING ON MY Win 7&&&&Recently Played&& ark Fall Lost Souls,Outcry,SH vs A Lupin,Tales of Monkey Island,Still Life 2,Sinking Island,Pandora Directive (RP),The Lost Crown

If your mind is not mathematical by nature, opening it will not help you solve this game.  ifferent people, different talents. It's easy only when you have the appropriate talent. I sailed through the first real problem in Schizm (inflating this fish-thingy) by accident. Went back, couldn't solve it. Read the walkthrough, understood the solution, knew it made perfect sense, also knew that I could never, and I mean NEVER, have thought of it myself. It required a leap that I'm not capable of. That doesn't mean that I'm too stupid to fiddle with machines in Riven, or to do some logical thinking.

Status : Online | I thought Schizm was a beautiful game, but very difficult. My biggest complaint was the lack of feedback on certain puzzles. You'd do steps A, B, and C and have no idea whether or not you'd been successful in opening some gate on the other side of the game world. There was also that "circuit puzzle" with multiple parts that I finally resorted to help from my kids to get through!

| Deleted User | Yup, it is really, really hard. I managed to get to the last area with a walkthrough, and past the first two on my own.
I got really stuck, looked at the walkthrough, balked at the amount of work left to do and gave up!
I'll say this though - the game is worth it purely for the dreamlike first area... beautiful...
