We got a free one, and hubby and I never figured out how to get it to work. We could not delete anything we put on it. Very confusing. I bought a Sansa MP3 player that used windows media, and it was much easier to get stuff on and off of it. I guess I'll rethink my previous comment, perhaps the Ipad is not for me. :-/

It all has to be done through iTunes. You make a special "Playlist" for your iPod within iTunes, then put everything you want to put on the iPod in that Playlist. Then you attach the iPod to your computer and sync it with that particular playlist.
As far as I know, you can't just copy/paste mp3's the way you would with a USB thumb drive.

Apple's definition of "seamless".

Hard to say. You won't be using USB without an iPad adapter. You may be able to get around the "expensive wireless services" but don't expect it to be made easy. No idea if you can store eBooks and games on multiple devices, even if they are only stored briefly before moving on.
Slightly inaccurate.
It is like the other apple devices. You connect to the computer with a USB cable, it is just that the end of the cable that plugs into the device isn't a standard USB connection but a proprietary Dock Connector to USB cable.
Also there are 2 models and the Non 3G version is plain old free wireless. Nothing expensive about it.

IMO, not just 'slightly' inaccurate. It was as if my post above didn't exist. Thanks Lucien for verifying that I'm not living in a parallel universe.

Well, when I was writing my response, your post didn't exist. I stand by the need for an adapter because, as far as I know, the iPad does not have a USB port. Sorry for any other misunderstanding.

Status : Offline | As per my post above, the iPad will connect to your computer's USB port thru the iPad's adapter, just as every other Apple Ipod & Itouch does. (The adapter will likely not be compatible with the Ipod & Itouch/Iphone adapters.) For most people, the computer connection is used for initialization when you first get the iPad and for transferring over large 'files' from Itunes (some games are more than 1g). Otherwise, most people will transfer apps/games to the iPad via their wifi, just as they do with the iTouch/iPhone.

People who lament the presence of an actual USB port on the iPad are confusing the iPad with a computer and this is where I also don't believe the iPad will directly compete with netbooks, though granted, there may be some people who get an iPad and decide they don't really need a netbook.
It depends on why one needs a netbook. If you want to be able to surf the internet with your favorite browser and if you want to d/l and use all sorts of files for whatever and if you want to wordprocess with Word, and if you want to play games (those that can run on a netbook that is) that aren't available for the iPad, then a netbook is going to work better for you. The iPad was not developed for these purposes.

The future ain't what it used to be!

Java apps are also missing as is the ability to search in a page of text in the browser.
There are a lot of things missing. "Missing" is, of course, a condition that depends on what you want.

And what this thread really needs, is a nice picture.

Not sure how many more 'bells & whistles' one could want. Apple isn't trying to produce the iPad as a 'touch' pad computer. However, other manufacturers, eg. HP, are releasing updated versions of touch/pad computers.
