Are you buying as many games as you did, say, 5 years ago, or even 3 years ago? If not, why?

Deleted UserI have been buying more games in the past several years.  I am sad to report that too many are sitting in neat stacks in the bookcase waiting for me to get to them - but I will eventually.

I have several reasons for my purchases:  I have found some good bargain games and I have bought some titles that intrigue me.  Writing the Schedule of Releases puts me into the forefront of what is coming down the pike.  Every time I turn around I find another game that I can't resist.

Have bought more games in the last three years than ever before, am game greedy to say the least.  However, since there seems to be more strategy and simulations lately which I don't play, so have slowed down a bit.  It does look like that I will be buying several games in  middle and late March and April.

Well, the number of games I've bought lately borders on the ridiculous.

The future ain't what it used to be!

I am definitely buying way more games than three, let alone five years ago. The explanation is very simple - back then I was a student and didn't have the money. So now I'm playing less but buying more, which seemingly makes no sense but it's true

I forgot my sig.

I don't really think my buying habits have changed much, but that's partly because we probably don't see as many games released in Australia as those of you in the States or even U.K.  I usually only buy one game at a time and finish that before buying a new one.   Now I've found a good place to order games over the Internet that may change though.

I'm buying more games now -- thanks to a renewed interest in adventures, the help of the Internet in tracking down all manner of games, and the fact that I will buy a game and shelve it for later if the price is right or if it's hard to find.

My answer would be similar to SirDave's except that I've definitely "crossed the border".  I would literally be embarrassed to say how many games I've bought so far in 2003.  A big part of that is because, like MichalN, I've got more "disposable income" now than I did 5 years ago.

Narji, feel like sharing your internet "supplier"?

I bay almost all of those adventure games I can get my hands on - and that is not much in Finland. Most of them are not released here. The rest I order from Amazon etc.

BTW: yesterday I bought Road to India. I don´t know if it´s good or not - propably not so good as it was sold at 5 euros only.

Resistance is not futile, we're gonna win this thing, humankind is too good, we're not a bunch of under-achievers! We're gonna stand up, and we're gonna be human beings. We're going to get fired up about the real things, the things that matter! Creativity, and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit.

What's funny is that as I've gotten older, I've had more money to spend on games, but less time.  Overall I'd say my games per year has gone way down since I just can't justify buying more than I can play through.

Deleted UserI buy a lot of games, but I try to finish them before I start thinking about buying something else!
Or my girlfriend would kill me...

Although, I do have Darkfall and GK3 to finish still... Most of my income, however, gets spent on CD's and DVD's and the occasional artbook.

I'm so boring!  :

Generally Speaking I've been buying less games than three or five years ago. The simple reason is that I've had less money to spare on games. Spent most of last year saving up money to upgrade my computer to play games and so really didn't have the money to buy games. Those few pennies I had spare I needed to fund my major addicition, books.

I'm probably buying just as many games today as I did 5 years ago - but, I'm definitely buying more adventure titles.

Dreamcatcher, Trecision and Microids keep my basket full.

What?

You know - that's funny... I can't see mine either, and thats only with the CD cases not the boxes hiding it.

What?

No question - loads, loads more recently.

Firstly I've got a bit more money to throw around

Secondly, I discovered the computers and gaming catagory on ebay

Thirdly, I came here to research all the great games I'd missed, got a bit addicted to the place and now I'm buying at least a game or two a week (!!) either second hand or from bargain racks. I shall own all the games I always wanted. Oh yes.

I am buying a great deal LESS these days... seems like the pace of my "real life" has heated up to where I scarcely have time to game and my existing unplayed inventory has some wonderful titles that I just can't seem to get around to.  Plus, I don't seem to be able to stay up until 2 or 3 am any more and still make it through my day job without falling asleep (and drooling) at my keyboard :-)
Ah... to be in my 30's again...
