Was this what you were looking for Sharon?

I'm not exactly sure how many mods I have running although I know it's a lot. I was somewhat overwhelmed by the sheer volume so I went ahead and downloaded a huge package of commonly used mods (1.7GB worth) that came with its own installer.

I'll have to sit through the whole intro thingie again, the first time I was rushed and I just answered a bunch of questions without a lot of thought nor paying much attention to the game manual. First glance makes me think that Skyrim is somewhat dumbed down in comparison.

Yes, I agree Trav. This does appear to be a harder game. I ought to give myself a break on the difficulty but you know I won't tell.

I was actually thinking of hammering on it, but this works well too!

Well, now that you're setup with your mods it's time to get to know the townsfolk and see what's going on.  Beware the mud crab. It may be ugly and slow but it creeps.  And it's determined.  If you're carrying too much you just might not be able to get away.  This is where your ego can take a hit because you are probably a lot weaker than you realize.  Or maybe not. I was.   Once you've squared off with a mud crab - or run away from one your game officially begins.  Good luck and keep posting.  I'm getting vicarious enjoyment from this.

CB, i like the look of those faces, since they're so close to the original - how about posting a few more screenies of your different race faces ?

Heh, yip. Though it's hard to go from Skyrim/Ob to Morrowind.   Morrowind has many hardships, but it's truly a world that grows on you.

To me the harder the game is, the better i feel when i manage to beat it.  The same principle used to work for rockclimbing.  The routes that you fell on 20 times before you finally mastered them, where the ones that gave you unutterable joy upon conquering them.

Traveller, have you also started playing Morrowind?

I can't play, I can't play, I can't play...  Must move on and play something different. Either adventure game or Skyrim.  I must give newer games and unplayed games a chance.  Edit:  First time I've tried to input an image in a very long time.  Tada!

No, i haven't now recently, but i don't really have time to play.  Before i go back top Morrowind i need to finish Skyrim, and i've just acquired Dawnguard....

Is the forum upload manager still working?

I looked at a few but other than non-humans they really didn't seem all that interesting. Honestly looking at just the faces on the character creator is a little creepy.

Had I chosen to play as a bretton female I would look like this:

Hmm, your faces aren't QUITE as nice as mine, i feel, but it's nice that they are close to the original for your first playthrough.  Breton female - that's my fave character, but i don't remember being able to choose that particular hairstyle...

That's my hairstyle under the hat. Thanks CB.  It took lots of time to get there.  I love that particular robe for both appearance and enchantment.  I don't remember what enchantment it came with but it was one I always did the quest for.  It was for House Telvanni I believe. Some people did not like the plasticene appearance of the enchanted items/clothes and they created a mod to remove it, but I kind of liked it.  I may have been using it for this picture though.

I have a couple other pics on photobucket but they are darker and not as clear.  Someone once asked what mods I had used regarding some of my enchantments/items(?) -- (Not seen in this picture.  They had a blue swirl around them).  Unfortunately I couldn't tell them as I had installed and removed so many mods I wasn't sure what one did what.

Edit:  PS:  Every item of clothing/armor I'm wearing has some kind of enchantment on it.  This is why I need such a high strenth skill -- for the encumbrance capacity.

I feel you are right. I went and looked at all the screenshots at the beginning of the thread and some of those faces do indeed look very realistic, esp. the eyes and skin tones. But, I also could not help noticing that in some cases they can appear too good, more or less in striking contrast to the outfits. I'd want to have equally quality suitable mods to benefit the outfits as well.

After a bit of research I figured out that MGSO 2 was using "improved heads" (not sure if it is a singular mod but it was what I had chosen in the setup options initially) as opposed to "better heads" which for some reason was removed from the original Bethesda source site  but is still floating around on the web.

MGSO 3.0 just came out a couple of days ago and therefore I felt I had no choice but to start over from scratch. The newest version offers more help in selecting the right settings based on your hardware so I had hoped to at least end up with better performance at the cost of ticking off some of the real good stuff. I mean heck, I've been playing other ES games on this laptop easily enough, this should be a piece of cake. Although in its present state it does looks very appealing, sad to say performance is rather dismal. There's really no doubt that one needs an ass-kicking system to fully utilize the full potential of all graphical enhancements of the package and in fact they pretty much state that at the outset. As for now I won't be posting anymore screenshots until I try it out on my PC.

So, the question remains. Can TES3 actually look as good or better than TES5?  Judge for yourself.

Wow!  CB that looks great!  I'll have to ask your advice regards graphical mods when I install Morrowind again.  Although...  Then again, I don't think my computer can handle what you've done.  I'll see when I go back to it.

My PC ain't no spring chicken, some of you might remember LOL....however the graphics card is much newer so I imagine that helped a lot. Had I chosen base configuration settings based on a "fast" computer I suspect I might have run into performance difficulties (hate that) so I compromised by sticking with the settings based on a "good" computer.

@ Sharon, do you still have your saves backed up somewhere? The overhaul states that one needs to start with a clean MW install, but from what I can tell or have been told it should be possible to place them back to their original location and proceed with the game.

No CB, I don't.  At the time of the reformat I was limited to a few DVD's for backup.  Even then, I don't think I did it right because I still lost stuff I thought had been backed up.  That's ok.  I like starting out fresh.  I have Morrowing Code Patch and Patch Project, but apparently didn't save or didn't have room to save any of the mods, etc.  I did manage to save a lot of patches for other games...

The PC version is luckily cheap as dirt these days (and it includes all the expansions), so if you can't find it, buying a new copy is always an option.

Newegg

The Morrowind code patch is included in the overhaul package. Links to the package can be found here. The download is approximately 1.7Gb.

Now that the hours of daylight are diminishing, I should expect to have some more shots and comments coming soon.

$20!?!?

I am a bit offended and relieved! It deserves a more worthy price but fortunately its one i can afford! Especially for what you get with that particular package

Odd, last time I checked, they were practically giving away copies of Morrowind. Now boxed copies seem to have sky rocketed in price. The same thing happened with Bloodlines, it just sky-rocketed in price when i was not looking, and went from ~5€ to 30€ over the course of a year.

Thanks, CB.  Am downloading overhaul package now.  It looks complicated though I imagine it is automated as much as it can be.  I wonder if I'll be able to add in some other mods as well?  I'm thinking English roadsigns, enhanced keys, etc.

I think I'll have to install this tomorrow to get a good look at it.  Maybe I can play it a little along with my other games...

Edit:

id you hear a sucking sound?

The installation guide PDF is now only one page. If you're not running Win7 be sure to check the prerequisites that need to be installed. Patch 1.6 is included in the GOTY edition. As of yet I haven't tried adding other mods but I'm always open to experimentation.

Well I did it.  I installed Morrowind again and again I'm loving it!    Installed MGSO package as well and used the medium setting for my computer with fingers crossed.  The game is beautiful!

The details, colors, lighting are so much better than before.  However, this appears to be a little more than my computer can handle.  The indoors performance is okay at about 30 FPS, but the outdoors performance drops down to 6 or 7.  So far I'm willing to tolerate this, but it may not work in a fight.  I may have to reinstall the mod with lower quality...
I can't WAIT till I can get a new computer!)

I found the town signs are in English, but they don't look as attractive as the mod I had before.  I played a little into the game and was enjoying myself, then found out that somehow during my bartering with Arielle my reputation with him had dropped down to 1 from 85.  I guess it was making him pay more for my stuff than he wanted to...  Anyway, he now refuses to deal with me.  I decided to start over and let him have his profit.

I still need to get a halfway decent weapon to deal with the smugglers.

How's it going CB?  How's your performance with this mod?  I remember when you got this computer.  I was drooling.

Anyway, I really like these graphic and sound improvements.  I don't know about the other changes they've made.  Will have to play the game and see how it works out.  This time I'm just going to play the game as it comes, so to speak.  No changes to the way the game is supposed to be (other than the graphic/sound mod I just mentioned).  We'll see how long it takes before I get annoyed at not having enough money.

Fnord? Anonymous Support Person? Traveller?  Are you playing?  Are any of you using this particular mod?

Ouch, 6-7 FPS on Medium PC setting doesn't sound very encouraging. From what I can tell based on my own experimentation, performance is more hinged on GPU specs versus CPU. For what it's worth you might consider posting your system specs for at least a better evaluation as to what is causing the lag in performance. On my front I'm quite happy with what I am viewing, 60 FPS indoors and 30-35 out in the world.

Slowly I'm starting to get used to the game. The dialogue interface is a nuisance, I keep clicking through all the topics with each NPC hoping for some tidbit of new information...I can clearly understand why that was changed and made more simplified in the later games...

At first I was a little perplexed with the whole bartering scheme but now that my approval rating with Arielle is at 100 he happily complies with my offers of items I want to sell. Too bad he won't trade if I have certain items (LOL which I thought were valuable) in my inventory.

Sadly no, I have not played Morrowind in a while now (so many other games remain unplayed....), but I'll absolutely check it out at some point.

Yea, the dialogue system was a bit clumsy. It is an improvement over how it was in Daggerfall, but that is sadly not saying much. I suspect that it is a side effect from having to cram so much generic dialogue into it, and allowing multiple characters to reach the same dialogue options. But it does quite often feel like you are just going down a list.

Though I would rather have the Morrowind dialogue system than the Oblivion one, at least if they feel the need to skimp on voice actors...

it was not that the individual voice actors were horrible in Oblivion, it was just that there were far too few of them, and sometimes NPCs would say different lines with entirely different voices).
