Here's an easy one, no doubt, for you Oblivion experts.

I'm in need of Magicka. Sleep doesn't help. When I go to sell to someone, I have potions that can improve my magicka.  However, when go into my inventory, I cannot find these potions.  Pray tell, wuzzup?

Your base magicka is determined by your intelligence, birthsign, and race: Your magicka will go down after casting a spell. It is restored over time at a rate determined by your willpower unless you are afflicted by Stunted Magicka, in which case your magicka will not naturally recover. The two most common ways to acquire Stunted Magicka are either by selecting the Atronach birth sign or by catching a disease with this effect (in particular Astral Vapors, which can be caught from Dread Zombies).

Ok, if you have magicka restore potions they should be in your inventory, there are sections of inventory for differnt things, like items, armour, and spels and magical items as i am sure you have seen ... have you searched all sections of your inventory? and make sure you dont drink the potions by mistake, instead of pick them up and put them in inventory.

I am not sure where they might have gone if you say you have /bought/found some and they WERE in inventory....are you sure you did not use or sell them by mistake?

Hmmm, I sold some bottled potions and saw a long list of them at that point.  I've searched the inventory well, but I'll do so again.  I thought I could use the potions myself.--tutorials I"ve read have said to "use" a potion to restore this or that, but just like my earlier questions, they don't tell you simply HOW.   Don't worry about it, I'll do my research.

Simply left clicking on them should cause you drink them.  I sincerely hope you didn't do that without realising, because then they're gone.  (Well, not gone, but in your rumbly grumbly tummy... )

Oh, and my dark elf finds your character very attractive, Halcyon.  Now she's pestering me to take her in for plastic surgery...  *sigh*

I have a couple dozen inappropriate wisecracks that I will keep to myself, although your character may enjoy a few of them over a pint of brine as we swap surgical adventure tales.  I am, after all, quite a cut up.

I see I should keep her away from a certain artist here on the forum, who seems to be putting all sorts of airhead wanna-be-bunny ideas into her once warrior-like head...

I like the bottom shot of Unicorn Girl.  lol

I'm not big on the whole glam warrior princess deal (at least online).  Then again, it's better than a troll.

No, I like the Bloodrayne type.  There's something very... - liberating about playing the part of some beautiful glamorous warrior or assassin who is deadly in every way you can think of...

Like the James Bond girls.  All sex appeal and deadliness, sans brains or sincerity.  Rather obvious.  I thought women liked subtly destroying men from the inside out over the course of years?

There's no rule that says that a beautiful deadly girl cannot be brainy and classy as well, a la Lara Croft.  It just has a certain escapist appeal.

...and in my universe, it's not men that they destroy, but all kinds of nasties such as demons, ghouls and ferocious beasts of the non-human variety.

EDIT:  ..and for what it's worth, in the real world it would be nasties such as cancer, the aging process, prejudice, suffering and ignorance  that our heroine would be able to overcome.

Alas, I fear that my real-world heroine would be less successful in her battles than the warrior  maiden of video games.... so I guess you see why I'd best stick to the realm of fantasy.

I meant well with that Dark Elf conversion, there are quite a few actualy some very nice and some mysterious and a wide range of choices, why i mentioned this one that i posted was because it is a complete race make over and can be dropped into your existing save game and current set up , i think, without having to start all over...i am checking with the mod masters.

re beauty and all, it goes both ways, the outside of both men and women can be lovely and deadly both, and i never meant to imply any singling out of the female side, my own experince is one of wonder and great fun and sharing across the line between men and women and never have thought of one or the other as the source of any more trouble than the other just as they are both equal in the joys and gifts they bring. I hope Halycon you will find that to be true if not in the past in the present and future and certainly in Oblivon, there are dangerous people of both seses in there, and ones of great kindness and gifts...
 Enjoy the Journey!

Agreed, Chris, I have always held that there is more variety within the sexes than between the sexes.  Just as with different races, you find good and bad people  within each gender, and simply because a person might be focussed on certain experiences with certain persons contained within a certain gender, does not necessarily make all persons within that gender thus.

I similarly hope that Halcyon will have better experiences in future, and I wish him well.

Chris, I know you meant well - I had simply been joking! What I had said was meant as good-humored banter.
When I had said "deadly" I had meant it as :  "deadly against her foes" as well as "drop-dead gorgeous" .

My poor dark Elf really is not attractive at all, bless her soul, so yes, the mods you have suggested would certainly provide more eye candy,  I do prefer that my character looks attractive.

Well, of course, I was stepping OC and joking and didn't mean to start a serious discussion of gender issues.  I have no issues with gender or others' choices, particularly when it comes to avatars.  Geesh, you guys are touchy!

 all is well
we have a lot of fun here Halycon with many discussions and topics, and morph actually quite a lot beteen IC and OC  and ys i knew you were joking Traveller... i will see what the experts say about modding up, i have been working slowly on my own character to make him more too, while still keeping my progress, stats and saves.  He just got a hair improvment which was fun for both of us, since he has much more than i do and wears it much beter too.

Okay, I've made it to the Mages Guild Academy and run a number of tasks.  I just battled vampires, then went to Bruma guild to rescue the guild leader.  Suddenly, I'm now, apparently, a vampire.  I have no cure for this and my health is vanishing by the second, so I'm going back to an earlier save to see what happened.

Clues?

O O
there are some blights and infections you can get that cause that.  Have to watch for being infected or bitten. There are spells that will remove that and health potions restore health, i have not been a vampire yet so i dont know to much about it. Sorry about that.

Congrats on getting to the Mages Guild!  that is excellent. Those quests are fun.

A vampire bit you.

If you want to avoid becoming one, try to avoid personal contact with them.  I used to use stealth with them, and shoot fireballs.  If all else fails, run, and DO make sure you save before taking them on...

The cure for vampirism is not simple at all, I'm afraid, so the best thing is to avoid being bitten, unless your express goal was becoming a vampire - but there is a plot mechanism later on in the game, that allows you to become one.
..and to find a cure, btw - but that is a quest in itself.)

I back-tracked to the Save just before I got "bitten" somehow.  I did the quest, then immediately went to the church and got the holy healing.
Last time, I slept for two days because I couldn't see Travern right away...and the vampire infection took root after the 2nd day)

So, I'm back on track.  I'm at Magician level now, but I've not even learned how to make spells.

Great game, so very deep.  I'm terrified before each cave I have to fight my way through. It's fun to succeed, tho.  Thank you for suggesting it!

excellent that is a good healing and a great quest.

I too feel that same fear in the underworld....yet the adventure lures us forward

stock up on torches....and there are some mods that allow you to drop them for light and still use both hands in combat.

Just want to say how important the right equipment is, especially to a newbie not used to weilding weaponry, weapon menus, spells, stealth, etc.

When I started Oblivion a short time ago, my left hand could barely remember the wasd keys quickly enough.  I'm still very slow.  So thinking fast to move, fire, open menus, choose, fire, etc., is a challenge.

I just bought a new Logitech G5 laser mouse.
The product is not made anymore, but the mouse itself is factory fresh.)  WOW, what difference a few programmable buttons can make.  And extras like choosing a comfortable dpi and adding weights to the mouse are amazingly helpful.

I still can't remember everything in the game, so I take lots of notes, but getting around and defending myself is now a bloody joy (so to speak).

There are some NPCs in the mages guild that can make spells for you, but you need to know the basics first (so to be able to create a spell that creates "light" you need to know another spell that creates "light"
, but when creating spells you can change the duration & power of your spell, plus combining several spells into one. But the more spells you combine, the less useful they will become.

If you want to be a mage, make sure to join the mages guild, you are allowed to enter a very useful region a bit into their quest line.

I've managed to become a master wizard, but I really don't have much skill.  I'm taking time now to build my skills.  Lots of fun!
