Can we keep to Oblivion in this thread, please?   Thanks!

Sorry about that, folks. It was mostly my fault.

But at least we got off track with a sideline regarding other good CRPGs stemming from a discussion about Oblivion mods.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows of a fix or workaround for the Dibella's Watch bug I described in this thread earlier today, it would be greatly appreciated.

The sailing ship is right there in Anvil Harbor and the Captain / Yellow Blob with Exclamation Mark is standing next to the boat on the adjacent dock. But clicking on him / it crashes the game every time no matter which related data files are activated in Oblivion Mod Manager or what order they are loaded.

Is there another way to access (and return from) the Dibella-related area?

Cheers, Terry

Didn't mean to get cranky about keeping this thread Oblivion-only, but since I started this thread years ago, I like to keep the conversation relevant and going forward, not sideways--although that is understandable.

I heard about a bug in Dibellas Watch, so I steered clear of that mod, although it sounds wonderful.

Before I download any mod, I read the comments through, especially recent ones.  I also read the descriptions, since some mod makers are up-front about reporting known bugs and often offering solutions.

Sorry i was away, i was working on a mod project for OB all weekend, that yellow blob and mark is a sign that you are missing some files. You may need to re install or re download the mod and be sure you get all the files. That is a warning that something is missing. If you need help with that mod you can post on the forum on the hosting site, which is TesNexus they are very helpful and the maker of that mod is a member of the Guild there.

Thanks for the suggestion, Cris. But I've pretty much burned-out on Oblivion for a while and decided to play some new RPGs.

Otherwise, your banquet is shaping-up nicely with all the elegant wines, cheeses and pastries. Although you might want to add some fresh apples, pears, berries and plain bread loaves for dieters trying to avoid so many extra calories. (Those yummy sweetrolls are just too tempting without some less-fattening alternatives on the table.)

Cheers, Terry

The Glenvar Castle mod and its two great quests is near the top of my mod list, right under the Lost Spires.  The modder eliminated all the hand icons that show you where switches and buttons, etc., are. He has buttons  in many places to secret doors, but you have visually spot it and click it without a prompt.  It is harder than you might think.

Great job.

Glad you are enjoying the Castle ..i haven't tried that one yet, sounds tempting. The quests people create are fun, and really add to the life of the game....which because of the amazing quality and depth of the OB world..i suspect it will go on forever being a very popular game. I have no plans to replace it with Skyrim, Skyrim appears to be nice but not as much a universal world as Oblvion....so it will be nice to have all three ...along with Morrowind that also is a timeless classic.

I am working on building a library for the Sutch Castle mod project..

and the Duke and Duchess' Quarters..

and i am continuing to work on a new system to put outside views into Oblvion Windows with various times of day, these are twilight and evening...

How about an all-new game, built on the Oblivion engine?

It is a mod of the base game of Oblvion, not a new game really. It is always good to see new mods and I enjoy conversions as much as anyone if they are done well....but it is NOT a new game really. If they created the resources themselves and paid for a license for the engine then it would be but if not, it is not.

As this thread is about Oblvlion posts about a mod project that is NOT part of the canon story lilne belong in their own thread.

Nehrim is as legitimate to talk about here as, say, Mothership Zeta would be to Fallout 3.

Still, I've been posting in the Nehrim thread, anticipating a lot of great talk and experiences in this huge, huge game-length mod.

That is exactly why I dove into Nehrim.  And what a beautiful, adventurous experience it is.

I did the same thing recently and loved following that darker path.

However, I had never played the official Oblivion EPs before and one of them (Knights of the Nine) simply isn't compatible with an evil character. So I finished that epic quest before joining the thieves and assassins guilds. Otherwise, there's no problem playing through the Shivering Isles EP as a murderous rogue. Matter of fact, it helps.

Cheers, Terry

I didn't play the Thieves Guild until my third play through the game.  I just cannot bring myself to try the Dark Brotherhood.  I don't like being THAT evil.  8-)

I must admit that I quite often cringed during the DB questline.  One of the quests (and ONLY one) was rather fun though - the party in the closed house.

Loved that Dark Brotherhood mission too, Trav. It was kind of like a Ten Little Indians quest.

But yes, there were also quite a few times when your good instincts had to be abandoned.

Conversely, most of the Thieves Guild quests felt morally justified.

Which is annoying because i wanted to be a pure evil character.
Since most quests in oblivion rarely have alternate paths, i'll have to do some 'good' things because i do want to complete all thieves guild quests.

Hopefully Bethesda implements more morality choices in Skyrim, like they did with the fallout series.

This is my fourth playthrough already and still most dungeons i visit are new

I know what you mean, Markornikov.

There sure are a LOT of caves, mines and ruins (aka ancient temples with vast subterranean mazes) in the province of Cyrodiil. Many more than all the vaults, sewers and sundry other underground hideyholes in Fallout 3.  (Although there are also a bunch of abandoned factories, power stations, communication arrays, etc. you can enter above ground.

Speaking of Fallout 3, I so wish there were some extensive player-created quest mods for it like there are for Oblivion. I've thoroughly explored all the Capital Wasteland's nooks and crannies and played all four official DLCs plus Fallout: New Vegas and its DLCs. Yet I still want more - much more!

Ah well, at least we have a huge variety of free, added content for Oblivion and all of Skyrim to look foward to. Combine all that with the the expansive worlds of Morrowind, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and you have a mind-boggling amount of SP RPG goodness from Bethesda over the past decade or so.

Oblvion is still a wonderful game to just visit and explore in, and there is a mega mod just about to be released by the TesAlliance Team the best modders have been working on it for months actually over a year and it has a huge story and a ton of new content. It will be the last pre Skyrim Mega mod for Oblivion and promises to be very beautiful.

I am sorry i was silent for a week, i was in California seeing family just got back...hope all and everyone are well.

Well, I tried to delete my previous post, but it didn't take.  So sorry.

I hate this new place. It is cold and unfriendly.  Just sayin'.

I have a good idea what you mean, Halcyon. Besides that the "Adventure" look is gone, so is site navigation, it seems.  But I guess according to the new TOS, saying things like that could get me banned.  Well, so be it. I need to be able to speak what's really in my heart, otherwise this forum is no use to me anyway.

The attraction it's held for me over the years, was that (beyond not getting too politicky or religious), I could be myself.  There are too many sites where I have to act like a goody-two-shoes or pretend I'm a male.  Just Adventure used to be a home to me...

OMG, I'm feeling exceedingly sad now.  Is there an achy breaky heart somewhere amongst the flood of new emoticons?
