Yes the Graphics Extender is really improving and that openable windows and views out side windows is one of the big next steps. I love the idea and am really interested in applying it in mod work I am working on a project to add an entire city to the game that Bethesda did not have time to finish, it will be restored fully soon, we have almost all the interiors done and are working on the landscaping... here is one of my interiors:

and i found a very nice new set of armor for my companion Valeria, she gets cranky if i don't treat her to something nice and she seems to like this one, judging by her expression in one of these pics i think if i tried to take it back i would lose an arm at least lol

http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg64/scaled.php?server=64&filename=nightridefromchorrol2.jpg&res=medium[/img]

we are all looking forward to Skyrim in the modding community, there will be a new construction set so we will be able to fully mod it just as we have OB. There are a ton of wonderful enhancements for OB enough for a life time and i expect to go on playing and modding it for the rest of mine.

That woman with zeppelins for breasts....a bit much, don't you think?  Especially for the poor horse.

na my system handles the load fine....since i added a high 9000 series card and extra RAM.....

i know it may seem a bit much, but i am testing various body mods and tho this one is rather over the top, no pun intended... the dynamics of body mods is an interesting area esp for customizing the various races..and for studying modding and the nif process. And as I said, once i had her installed  ...this particular companion is very testy...and i would not want to test her patience.

Just so I'm clear I'm assuming that would be Reinforced Articulating Mesh.

LOL, CB.

Call it "modding" if you will, Cris.  "Yes, let's just experiment with this species body mod.  The eyebrows?  Oh, no!  Let's focus on...."   Yes, I know how it goes.

Just kidding.  I realize it isn't about gender at all.  You're just testing weaponry, right?

whatever the aspects may be, it is actually a lot of fun to have a companion to adventure with, she fights skillfully and well and can heal me when i get wounded ..within reason...and she has a full dialog and character and history that unfolds as we spend time together, so it really livens up the OB adventure.

I have learned of a couple of amazing quest mods that I did not know about before...one of the most impressive is:

Dibella's Watch 1.0

Description
DIBELLA'S WATCH
Gods and Mortals

By Antiscamp, Version 1.0

It was said that the Goddess of Beauty and Love herself created the Island. She created it for all the enemy races and fighting factions of Tamriel; as a haven in peace and tranquility, where all petty grievances would be forgotten, and there would be no cries of war and no clash of arms. She painted Her island like a piece of art. She made it with lush forests, streaming rivers and fertile farmlands; She raised mountains in the north and in the west, made beautiful islands and painted endless plains. She made the land for a beautiful people who She drew from all the races of Tamriel.

The People of the Goddess worked the land and erected great buildings and monuments; they explored, they learned and they grew in numbers. Their achievements were many and their society grew strong, although the road ahead was sometimes rocky and rough. The Island of the Goddess became the Paradise in Tamriel that the Goddess had planned for. Indeed as close as could be with mortals and not gods running it.

But in the far west, the snake in paradise raised its head. The dark Deadtree Clan formed its black legions and stormed down from its prison in the mountains; to conquer, to pillage and destroy the peace She had installed. Angered and spurred by their devilish gods, they broke through, grew their numbers, raised their barbarian banners and set the march east to destroy civilization and beauty once and for all. Dibella's beautiful island was about to be torn by war and fire.

STARTING OUT

There is boat transport to Dibella's Watch from Cyrodiil. Go to Anvil and speak to the Orc at the docks, and he'll take you by sea transport to the island and you'll land at the docks at Port Zerrva. You can also talk to the female orc near the Floating Bloat at Imperial City Waterfront for transport to Port Constanze in Dibella's Watch. There are captains at the docks in those towns in Dibella's Watch who can transport you back to Cyrodiil too when you wish to leave Dibella's Watch.

To start the main storyline quest, travel to Shardville which is already marked on your map when you arrive in Dibella's Watch. you will either be approached by a Deadtree warrior who will start conversation with you, or you can search by the Governor's body to find a note that starts the main questline.

The continent is large and there is a lot to see and do; so you might want to start out with some exploring before you tackle the main quest, but it's your choice. The eastern parts of the continent are quite safe, with few enemies, but the further west you get, the more dangerous the land becomes. Dibella's Watch will require a well-established and experienced character to tackle the beasts of the west and the main storyline.

--------------------------------------------------------
it is made by a master mod maker, a member of the Mod Makers Guild that I am a member of, some of the best and brightest who craft things for OB...and it sounds like a lot of fun, i plan to play thru it soon.

Thanks for posting the details about this Oblivion quest mod, Cris.

Am downloading the file right now and plan to play it as soon as I finish the rather good Bartholm mod.

Cheers, Terry

I recommend that Bartholm mod.  Lots to do, tough sections, a couple of locations, and you can join the foreign legion!!  Had lots of fun and a big, big challenge.

I downloaded and installed the original Dibella's Watch quest mod for Oblivion and it has a serious bug that prevents me from accessing the ship in Anvil. I got the proper text message about starting the quest, but the key NPC on the dock is just a big, bright yellow blob with what appears to be a distorted exclamation mark. You can get the character's name and an action cursor, but clicking on him totally crashes the game.

So I downloaded and installed the most recent update / patch and followed the instructions carefully for disabling some of the old data files and arranging the loading sequence with Oblivion Mod Manager. But that did not fix the problem and unfortunately, this it looks like a complete deadend.

Too bad because it sounds like a good one...

Terry, what you are experiencing with that exclamation mark sounds typical of what you get when one mod isn't quite compatible with another, or when you need some or other additional interface for the character models in a mod.

Yes it was challenging and fun, although I did get a couple of dead-end side quests with a disappearing NPC on the island (the healer who wants two sets of ogre teeth) and one that died mysteriously in the town of Bartholm (Filthy Fargas? the rat hunter guy) before I could complete their tasks. There were some missing quest arrows on the maps too. Otherwise, everything worked fine, looked good, and the voice acting was above average.

So at this point, I have finished both official Oblivion EPs, all the Thieves Guild / Dark Brotherhood quests, plus several of the top-rated big quest mods and am about ready to move onto another game. Too bad I've also pretty much exausted Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas with all the DLCs for both as well as all things Gothic and the original Two Worlds.

For RPGs, I'm considering Mass Effect 2, Drakensang + EP, Divinity 2, the Two Worlds sequel, and The Witcher 2. Just can't decide whether to go for yet another medieval fantasy setting with swords, bows and spells or a sci-fi / space theme with laser weapons, lightsabers and force powers.

Or maybe I'll just grab a few more (recent) PC adventure games and a couple of additional shooters...

Cheers, Terry

You're probably right, Traveller.

But I'm getting a little tired of Oblivion at this point and will probably switch to another game (see the list in my post right above this one).

Just undecided at the moment about genre and theme... any recommendations?

That's what she has good, sturdy armor for, you know!  [smiley=rofl.gif]

Sorry Chris.  They need to make a mod for us girls too, that make the men well-endowed- I mean... -that give them six-packs and rippling muscles.  Kidding, honestly
Honestly, though, just some nice, attractive faces will do for me.  [smiley=angel.gif]

Phew, it's rather hard to choose out of your list of medieval fantasies, Terry.  I'd say that if you wanted dark and gritty, go for Witcher 2.  If you want value for money, as in a long game with quite a varied and relatively unique experience, go for Dragon Knight Saga  (=
iv2 + expansion).

If you want gameplay similar to Dragon Age/ the D & D games, then try Drakensang.

I still need to do 2W2 myself.

...but since you enjoy sci-fi and shooters, you might enjoy ME2.  In some respects it's rather dissimilar to the first game in gameplay (and rather closer to a shooter), but you like shooters, so that should be fine.

Thanks for the concise yet helpful feedback, Traveller.

Think I'll save The Witcher 2 for later as a sure thing, because all the reviews have been excellent and it's the most recently released RPG on my list. Also, Mass Effect 2 is a given at some point soon. I loved the first game despite all those dumb, clunky driving sequences and evidently, the sequel has none of that crap. So it should be even more enjoyable with gameplay that's closer to KOTOR. (Why they don't just use optional mouselook to smoothly, intuitively steer vehicles left/right in shooters and horses in RPGs like you do on foot or with most flight segments is beyond me.)

Of the remaining three slightly older RPGs, which all have fantasy themes, I want to read a bit more about gameplay specifics and watch some additional videos.

The combat in Divinity 2 looks like a lot fun and becoming a dragon knight sounds pretty cool too. But I understand Drakensang has some real depth that makes up for the flaws and I really enjoyed the wide-open feeling of Two Worlds' universe (much like a cross between Oblivion and Gothic).

Once the extra homework is done, I'll just let my mood decide...

Cheers, Terry

Yes, I'd say that the strength of Drakensang lies in the fact that there is quite some depth and complexity in the RPG system.  (Based on the German Dark Eye tabletop RP games).

It doesn't quite have the character depth and amusing dialogue that is typical of the Bioware games, though.

Please let us know what you think of Two Worlds 2 when you get around to playing it, won't you?

Drakensang has become quite a hit among people who play a lot of CRPGs, due to its deep character customization. If you feel that the first one feels a bit unrefined (long travel times, difficulty spikes and slightly disjointed story), but like the core system, then I would recommend giving River of Time a shot, it fixes almost all of the issues that the original game had (though it is quite hard to find the game).

Back to Oblivion.....

I'm playing a mod called Glenvar Castle. Two quests are involved before you can claim ownership to the HUGE castle, and wow are the quests challenging!  Bring your best weapons and water breathing skills.

I played through the Bartholm mod, too, and that was a blast.  Lots quests and interesting characters.

Right now, Gamestop.com has the Drakensang Bundle digital download pack for $29.99 USD or just the River of Time download for $19.99 USD. Plus you can order the DVD versions separately online and several local Gamestop stores in my area still seem to have them in stock. Wouldn't count on the latter though as they are notoriously bad about updating the main website to reflect actual merchandise at individual retail outlets.

Additionally, Direct2Drive.com currently lists downloadable versions of the original game for $9.99 and the sequel for $19.99.

Amazon.com also lists some options for both games with separate, new or used DVD versions ranging from $8.99 to $19.95 USD + shipping.

Might just get the sequel if it's simply better than (lacks most of the problems in) the original game. I mean, life's too short to wade through all that muck when a new, improved path is available.

Cheers, Terry

Well, the sequel is actually a prequel, so you can play them in any order you like. If you like what you see in River of time, you can just play the original game, while it has a few more flaws, I still found it to be one of the best CRPGs that has come out in the last couple of years. Mass effect might have had a better story, but Drakensang had a better system.

Thanks, Fnord... that really helps make the decision easier.

Since it's a prequel, think I'll just grab The River of Time from D2D and give the game a whirl.

Actually played Gothic 2 before the original Gothic - even though it was a direct sequel. Then decided to play the first title despite some well-documented issues about clunky controls because I liked the game world and story so much. That also made Gothic 3 and its EP seem much more complete as the end of an epic adventure.

As far as Mass Effect, Divinty 2, Two Worlds 2 and The Witcher 2 are concerned, I've already played all the original games in those franchises and a whole new RPG sounds good right now.

Also decided to (finally) download Gray Matter from JA+ and will probably alternate between it and Drakensang: TRoT while pecking away at a long list of PC action titles missed over the past seven-plus years since my last big FPS binge.

So far, I've finished the original Far Cry, Painkiller Black Edition, all of the Half-Life 2 Orange Box package, and most of the original BioShock. Have liked them all in their own individual ways and plan to keep fragging high-res baddies for as long as it takes to catch up. But wow is the old trigger finger rusty, so it's going to take a while...

Cheers, Terry
