Aaarrgghh! CB... I've missed all the edits to your previous post, because I only click on threads tagged as  "new".

Don't have time to read it now, but see I've missed a lot.

Please won't you be a dear and just do a new post next time you think of stuff afterwards, so we can track you   :-*

I haven't come as far as you have, but dying to carry on with this! Yes, Nathaniel was the "spoiler"

I'm going to try to get to this soon, you're  making my mouth water!

Deleted UserSorry about that Trav. I knew you were playing some other games and I certainly didn't want to make your life even more chaotic.

For a while I was just committing my comments to cyberspace but then I stopped and just left it at that.

Anyhow, I've gone back and given it one last final edit.  8-)

Darn, never did figure out what the deal was with the cat. :-?

For those worried about Dragon Age 2's combat, it appears you have nothing to fear,

http://dragonage.bioware.com/da2/gallery

Watch the combat walkthrough. The guy shows pc gameplay of combat and how it can be played both more action-oriented or more tactical he same as in DA/older CRPGS.

Hmm, so happily it doesn't seem to have changed all that much. Hehe - well, since I adore doing action-type gameplay with a dual-blader, this video managed to win me over quite a bit.

I'm not averse to paralyse and stun effects with magic either so I'm totally cool with this!    [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

When it came out I remember reading a LOT of negative things aout it, basically saying it was very short and one of the main selling points, Morrigan, was a huge letdown and not even in it but 5 minutes or so.

Deleted UserGreat video.  Both battle approaches look great but my initial impression tells me that I'd probably want to stick with the more familiar pause and play tactical approach at first rather than real time on the fly action.  Oh well, all I can do is keep waiting until the day I can experience both systems for myself.

I couldn’t tell for sure from the video, but it seems the good guys seem to have a better knack for avoiding friendly fire.

Hmm, well I do remember that in the Black Marsh there were several locations that were guarded by enemy entities that would send out a couple of darkspawn as the party approached.  You could trigger ‘hold’ and take them out, and wait a short interval and two more would be dispatched.  It seemed that this could go on forever literally unless you moved the party forth for an all out attack. :

Seriously though I can’t really say that I found it monotonous (then again I’m sure I am ruled by different standards then others) but overall I will say that for the most part I found game play to be either more on the easy side, but not necessarily balanced with just the opposite along with a lot less attention to detail compared with the original campaign.

I still haven’t beaten the game as the final confrontation is quite a nightmare compared with Origins. There’s still time though. :-X

I never did get the DLC to recognize my account.

I take it that Signature edition is a fancy name of "standard edition" (much like "special edition" is a fancy name for standard edition when it comes to movies), because it seem to be priced like any other new game, and while it has a bit of "extra content", there is no standard edition without that extra content.

Deleted UserI would agree. The Bioware Signature Edition, aka pre-order, seems to be the only buying choice as of now at least that I can tell. Right now though I'm just a bit curious as to what's going to happen after Jan. 11 '11 (per sources Amazon, newegg) when the offer is supposedly going to be retracted.  Would they do that? Seems somewhat unlikely as I am inclined to believe any such offers would be extended, perhaps indefinitely even after the game is released. No?

Not going to commit or worry, just going to relax and wait patiently and ride out whatever transpires for the next two and a half months until it actually becomes available.

The signature edition is the version that includes the extra party member/story, the extra weapons and things along with the soundtrack.

After the gmae comes out, this "extra" stuff will most likely become DLC which anyone who buys the game afterward will have to fork over money for. Very similar to DA1 and Shale/the extra weapons.

I found it too! Well after the pesky bug I had to redo the whole fight. I followed a tip found on a YouTube video and built up the Mayor's morale until he told me he had a 'good feeling' about the fight ahead.

And lo and behold I progressed from attack from the castle to attack from the lake. Despite losing all my party members (careless tactics) I ended up luring the rest of the zombies up the path to the knights and then sitting back and waited for them to do the work for me.

Well, I'm so glad to hear you are over that obstacle now, Maum!  It's a pity you had to replay the battle, but for whatever reason, I also had to restart that battle, I can't exactly remember why.  I played the game when it was released, so it's been a while.

Come to think of it, there's 2 of the origins I haven't done yet; the City elf, and Dwarven Commoner.

There's also 2 more sets of DLC that I'd like to get: Leliana's Song  and The Golems of Amgarrak.

Which origin did you choose, Maum?

EDIT:  I do remember there was a reason why I had to replay the (a?) battle in the castle - I had forgotten to find that lost girl to send her back to a father; and I'm a completionist, I like to finish all possible quests.

(Plus of course, you get a reward.  Gotta get all the rewards!
)

In order not to pollute the 'what are you playing thread' any further, i'm going to post in this thread from now on.

So to answer you question Trav: I've already advanced to about 20% into the game, according to the stats.

I seemed to have missed most side quests in the Korcari Wilds, if i'm not mistaken there's no way to return to that area?

I've already completed everything in Lothering and Redcliffe, which took me to the Mage's Tower where i ended up in the Fade.

What an ingenious and original place that is, it really shows how skilled the bioware devs are.

THIS is also my only complaint so far, why is my main character so rude to me?

I also miss the fact that the main character isn't fully voiced, it really adds to the realism of the game.

I'll never be as emotionally attached to this 'Warren' the warden as I am with my Shepards in Mass Effect.

Yes, sadly I also missed a binch of quests in the Koscarrii wilds in my first playthrough, and that is indeed very sad that you cannot go back.  I suspect the reason is that the place is Spoiler Alertsupposedly destroyed.

If I may give you a mild spoiler about follower relationships, Marko, (it's common knowledge, but I'm going to cover with spoiler tags anyway) : Spoiler Alertyou can make your followers like you a lot more by giving them very specific gifts.

I could tell you which gifts to give to whom, but rather than spoil you, I'll make the suggestion that you save before giving the gift.  If the gift adds anything more than 10 points to how much your follower likes you, then it was an approriate gift for that specific person.  Anything 5 or lower, and you know you should rather have given that sepcific gift to someone else.  You'll soon learn who likes to collect what.  Huge spoiler:  Spoiler AlertSurprise surprise! Your dog likes to recieve bones

Ok, that last spoiler wasn't really a huge spoiler, so you can peep under the tag...

meh, the dog gets nothing from me, i hate dogs

I haven't figured out how to give gifts though, as it's been a while since i've set up camp.

I'm probably still not paying as much attention to my companions as I should be

Well for it to work specifically as a gift, it needs to be tagged as a gift in the title of the item.

(  In other words, not any old item will work as a gift, you need to look for the stuff that clearly has a "gift" ID)

You find them in the gameworld, or buy them from vendors.

think you then give it through the inventory screen, as if you were going to give the follower weapons or armour, but I'm getting a bit confused now with this game and other games where you can gift people, so I need to check the exact detail again.

Btw, did you get Sten?

 ..and Leliana?

That chantry girl who blabs a lot is Leliana.  You can do romance with her, and much harder, with Morrigan.  My standard party when I was a warrior (did my main playthrough as an Elven dualwielding female warrior - remind me to show you cool shots of me killing a dragon)  consisted of Morrigan and Wynne, because later on, as you level up, combination spells become awesome, and you can only do the combo's with 2 mages in your party.

Dualwielding is also absolutely awesome.

Um, why? Why did you have to kill her? You can't play without Wynne!

EDIT: I mean, what was the reason you "had to" kill her?  You could very easily have left her behind when going into the tower and taken somone else instead, because i know she gets stroppy at a point, but even so, I took her along and just shut her up with the right dialogue.  Maybe she didn't like you enough on the follower attitude thingie?  In such cases, you must always leave a follower behind if you're embarking on a quest that they don't agree with.  Or else you might soon find yourself without any followers.

"Playing"  your followers is very much a part of the game - they are part of the story and part of how you play the game; the game isn't just about fighting.  It's just an example of the former Bioware's brilliance with creating fantastic character-driven games.
